  • Your sorely sorely missed Ronnie

  • does anyone has the full version of this number ?

  • The BBC put this full concert on one night...with the film about him too...great night's viewing...they need to get it on again, I can record it this time!

  • @burnsybaby1987 Sometimes youtube doesn't tell you of comments.

The Director/Producer of the Passing Show contacted me for my use of music..

Said he was touring with Slim Chance and there was a new DVD out soon.

I worked as a Manager when songs were recorded for Anymore for Anymore

At the Victoria Palace in London 1973 ish. Lovely songs.

  • @cje49 Very nice. I've got 'The Passing Show' on DVD, the film about Ronnie...is this what you're talking about a performance video? Be great if so. Thanks. Adam

  • @burnsybaby1987 Sadly I doubt there is video of that show.About 5 songs were recorded live for his opening LP as "Slim Chance." I still play his youtubes to cheer myself up. His enthusiasm and songs are great after all these years..christopher

  • @cje49 Still, a great show to have been at. Yeh his music is amazing...I didn't know much about him until that film aired, I found myself liking him and certain ballads, April Fool...Just For A Moment...in the face of such a 'heavy' period (with the likes of the Faces, Who, Led Zeppelin) knocking about Ronnie downrooted it and stripped it bare. He tied in with that English folk 'revival' (Lindisfarne etc.) he even had Gallagher and Lyle in his band. I also heard his more laidback and...

  • @burnsybaby1987 more DIY style influenced Eric Clapton, who hung around with him in the late 70's...there's a wonderful story that the first airing of 'Wonderful Tonight' was to Ronnie Lane and guests, sat round a bonfire one night. Isn't that glorious?

  • does anyone know the chords that ronnies playing,,brilliant song

  • @superglens67 Pretty sure he's in DADF#AD (open D) tuning, capo 3rd fret so D sounds F. The 12-string is in standard. The verses are F - Gm(7), which in his tuning goes just between open and like an E shape. Chorus is, I think, Dm - Am - Gm7 - F. Haven't played it in a while.... easiest Dm is x20020, Am is xx4340, . But he's playing the chorus chords further up the neck, so I can't tell you the exact fingerings. I haven't played it in a while so hopefully memory serves.

  • @mtut many thanks ,took me forever to get the F#,but it sounds beefyer ,,cheers again

  • I guess this was Ronnies finest song ever closely followed by richmond

  • Fat chance and slim chance how do they mean the same thing...ironic isn't it? A old friend once said that!

  • That smile at 2:01 makes me love him so!

  • @aaronburrconspiracy He's so very real - an awesome, heartfelt song about his dad - performed to perfection. What a lovely man!!

  • drives me crazy that all these end prematurely. i'm forever grateful because this one esp. is beyond brilliant but the letdown...

  • "Oh you was my hero

How you are my good friend

    I've been there and back

And I know how far it is

But I left you on the Debris

Now we both know you got no money.

And I wonder what you would have done

    Without me hanging around."

    Steve Marriott perhaps?

  • @gropingwithastoker it's about Ronnie's father

  • @gropingwithastoker,Steve Marriott and Rod Stewart left poor old Plonk on the debris,Good on Pete for helping him out though eh?

  • @ogdens67 Kenney jones Jimmy page Ronnie wood and Rod stewart all paid for Ronnie lanes medical bills

  • @affectionatepunch Keith Richards also helped quite a bit. He had an aunt who had MS and he paid for Ronnie to stay at a treatment center he'd bought in Florida in the early 80's. He also sent Steve Marriott there to help Ronnie while he was there. Which birthed the Majik Mijit project, the last time Marriott/Lane worked together.

  • @gropingwithastoker -- just a couple of corrections: NOW you are my good friend --- And I wonder what you would have BEEN.

  • god bless you ronnie,a true star and a wonderfull artist and man.rip mate.

  • A true Genius peace

  • God Bless you Ronniie Lane....the insipration behind the Faces and Slim Chance......NEVER forgotten and really loved playing as we can see.

  • hcccc

  • a truly beautiful lament

  • I remember way back in 1972, when I bought the 45 single of Stay With Me, flipping it over to the B side, and hearing this, one of the greatest songs ever written!

What an artist, God bless, Ronnie, I wish I'd met you.

  • masterpiece. come on bbc theres a market for a dvd out here

  • @dalgais1 . Not sure if I am repeating myself. The first post didn't seem to go. I used a Lane track on a family cine on my youtube account. Someone approved. Mentioned that Slim Chance were on the road again.

and that there was a DVD of "Passing Show" being issued. Turns out that he was the director of the BBC film.

and involved with the touring this year. People you meet on the internet!!!

  • @cje49 ok cheers

  • Been my favourite song for sooooo many years. Never tire of hearing it and I am still missing the great guy.

  • If it gets better and more sincere than this, I haven't heard it.

  • God bless Ronnie Lane.

  • Happy B'day...just look at the guy; he's completely in love with the music :)

  • Happy Birthday Ronnie! Forever remembered for all the soulful things you left behind!xxx

  • I had the luxury, thanks to my older Sister, growing up listening to Ronnie Lane , from the Small Faces on. One of the many things I have to thank her for.

Even after all these years he still makes the hairs on my neck stand up.

One of the greatest songwriters ever and thankfully an inspiration to many musicians of my geheration.

Thank you very much Ronnie, may your legacy live on.

  • gets better every time

  • He played in Open Tuning ? Open G maybe ? What is the tab ?

  • @noelliam67 not sure it is open tuning. i've been playing it E, Fsharp minor, E, Fsharp minor (verse) and, Csharp minor, Gsharp minor, G, Fsharp minor, E, Fsharp minor, C. Good luck

  • @noelliam67 He's tuned to Open E here with Capo on 3rd, making it in the key of G. The studio version is in F.

  • ronnie puro sentimiento,por siempre

  • greatest song ever.simple. thank you ronnie xx

  • SIMPLY BEAUTIFUL! :-))

  • est3inb3rg,yeah, i've seen some of the Matlock footage. Glen must be in his element, he made no secret about being into the Faces when he was in the Pistols and suffered much derision, but I bet Steve Jones would give his right arm to play alongside Woody ( bit of Irony ). Watch Glen when he plays with the Faces, he knows hes filling a huge hole

  • I could listen to this gorgeous song all day. More soul in one lyric than most of the stuff we here today from rock standards.

  • can cry a w ee bit brill song

  • This number always grabs me, makes me think of my old man, working at a government supply depot and being in a union. Ian McLagan does a phenomenal version of this live and also a very cool version on his CD "Spiritual Boy".

  • Plonk forever.

    RIP

    FAX

  • THE CLEVER ONE IN THE FACES AND SMALLS. PLONK HAD SO MUCH TALENT AND MELODY IN HIS HEAD. HE NEVER GOT THE CHANCE TO BLOSSOM FULLY. HIS TRACKS ARE CLASSICS. WE TRY TO DO CREDIT TO SOME OF THEM, WE LET FOLKS KNOW HOW GOOD RONNIE WAS AND HIS MEMORY SHOULD NEVER BE FORGOTTEN. CHEERS RONNIE THE ACE FACE

  • 2 dislikes !! dickheads . the man is a genius.

  • Easily one of the best songs ever written, by one of our greatest songwriters/musicians.

R.I.P. Ronnie, you are sorely missed.

  • ....if you love this song....then you really should love your Dad....or miss him always...

  • Genius,coolest guy in the world x

  • The Faces recently got back together for a few surprise gigs. Ron Wood, Mac and Kenney, with Ronnies good friend Bill Wyman filling in for him on bass, and Mick Hucknall doing a great job on vocals. That croaky voiced, raggy haired twat was too busy making a crap covers album that will be on sale at filling stations for 2.99

  • @toshishimura Bill Wyman was on bass for the October 2009 gig in London, but when they toured in 2010 it was Glen Matlock of Sex Pistols. Hope they're planning to go through with the 2011 world tour still, as I would love to see them

  • Ron, You, you was my hero, now you are my good friend. God bless

  • Happy 50 Years Corrie! We Miss You Ronnie!

  • God Bless you Ronnie !!!...REALLY missed and songs that have REAL meaning.....I'm sure Ronnie would have grabbed Rodney and got him back into the REAL world.

  • "I've been there and back....and I know how far it is."

  • Good on you Ronnie,sorely missed,truely beautiful.

  • Ronnie unplugged is the one MTV should have made

  • God, do I loathe Rod Stewart.

  • the best! someone said the dogs bollocks..Cheers to that..a truly great songwriter and artist..Please re-release Ronnie's albums!!!!

  • there is a great dvd documentry on ronnie , sad too.

  • wonderful song singer and man what a loss he is

  • It's all been said, modest, talented, beautiful..Ronnie left us with his heart...amazing!

  • Yes one of the true greats, Shame the small faces were ripped off and revived no royalties from there songs and Ronnie had to live his final years on hand outs

    truly missed.

  • Slim Chance are gigging again doing Ronnie's songs. Going to see them at Worthen Village Hall/Shropshire on Nov 13th. A beery cheery Ronnie Laney night in store.

  • @pykkervots

Went to the gig at Robin2

Bilston, Nov.28th Piss poor turn out for a great night. Roll on Ronnie!!!

  • is this available anywhere?

  • this man is the dogs bollocks! nuff said

  • Bobby Keys on Sax?

  • this may just be the greatest video on youtube, what a legend

  • what a beautiful voice.

  • I used to play this song over and over and over, a big deal since it was an LP and I had to place the needle every time! How amazing to see videos such as this now.

  • Ronnie was ,,the Faces .. and such a humaist .. also great song writer ..... we all love Ron . !

  • amazing. love the little drunken (?) smile at the camera at about ten secs. what a song.

  • Ronnie was the sort of bloke who could steal your girlfriend and shag her, but you'd still love him anyway.

The heart of and soul of The Small Faces. R.I.P.

  • he deserves to be blessed by 'god'..great man

  • I think Ronnie Lane was very talented. great musician! god bless him

  • In the opening shot his shirt has a morbid face on it.

  • God Bless This Great Soul man, so much great work. RIP

  • love em all

  • Can't think of any reason why you'd dislike Ronnie Lane's music ... RIP

  • @kpdrrn32 Only dislikable thing is that this clip ends too soon - just like RL's life?

  • most 'love' songs are about trying to get into the underwear of the other - not necessarily a bad thing, but mostly they are trite performed by awful people posturing. This song has so much more to it: genuine love & everyone is smiling & utterly absorbed in the moment.

  • @SuperLmcc

Thank you for the response. I always assumed it was akin to a "rummage sale", but could never verify it and didn't want to sound ignorant. Thanks again~~~~

  • no words are enough!

  • Will someone please explain what is meant by "I left you on the Debris"?

    (I'm not British, obviously.)

Love the song, but always wondered what that meant.

  • @sund7cuU The Debris was an expression to refer to bomb sites left after the bombing in London following WW2. They'd be used for markets that sprang up and also kids would play on them. Many of these sites remained until redevelopment in the 1960's.

  • @Tayplupe

You may be spot on about London bomb sites, but Debris is about Ronnies dad.

  • @shanemacify thanks -yes I know that- I was just explaining where the song got its name. One thing for sure- we all have excellent taste in loving Ronnie's songs.

  • A wonderful, bitter sweet, postwar tribute to his Dad. The guy truly was one the best musicians Britain has ever produced.

  • Legend can be used to easily nowadays Ronnie Lane was and is a legend. Thank you Ronnie, wish Id known you.

  • legend full stop

  • Amazing!

  • God bless Ronnie Lane. Seriously.

  • Super..no one could say it better!

  • absolutely perfect. Thank you Ronnie

  • extroadinary tune.just saw the passing show again.

  • Love you Ronnie.

  • I love my dad. Debris reminds me of that everytime I hear it. Thank you Ronnie Lane. RIP.

  • Easily one of a handful of the best British "soul" songs ever written. You can tell Ronnie's really feelin' it during this performance.

  • amen brother

  • God Jesus, I love this record.

  • One of my favorite Ronnie songs.I miss him dearly.I don't know a soul who thinks different and that doesn't miss that wry smile.

  • man this was the best faces song ever .I've still got the origial l.p Ibought about 36 years ago.the best rock album ever NODS AS GOOD A S A WINK TO A BLIND HORSE .The Faces rock :)

  • Alot of people don't know alot of songs being covered by other artists were written by Ronnie Lane. An amazing artist. "Nods as good as a wink to a blind horse"...how true, man.

  • LOVED THAT ALBUM...is it just me...or does Ronnie write like McCartney...just not as good a voice?...close...but some of the inflections?

  • I went there and back just to see for myself...

  • perfect music .

  • Just look at his sweet modest smile when he sees the camera I miss him

  • Again, a beautiful Ronnie Lane performance rudely truncated. Please (somebody) re-post complete. This is just too lovely to be cut short.

  • Rod Stewart's got a lot to thank this man for.

  • @numberstation Spot on.

  • @numberstation Ronnie Lane was a true gent and smiled his way happily through life and made many others smile with his music, as the saying goes: 'only the good die young' he was truly good.

  • he had some good people in his family. praise the good.

  • thank you for this.

    RIP Ronnie Lane.

  • Heard this for the first time on the Robert Elms show (BBC Radio London) last Friday. Happy Father's Day, dad.

  • Ronnie Lane a good old Plaistow Boy. Ronnie wrote this song about his Father "you was my hero now you are my good friend".

  • Dear Plonk, my hero ...

  • love him, genius

he's voice sounds the same as george harrison's

  • Ronnie Lane's music touched my troubled teenage soul. I'd forgotten. Now I'm the age he was when he left us and I've rediscovered his tracks that the needle long ago scratched away on my old Faces albums and I just want to pay tribute to him and his wonderful music

  • The music is timeless. Live on Ronnie Lane!

  • gotta love him.

  • Ronnie....what a man.

  • [ R.I.P ] Ronnie Lane. Ronnie Materials N' Rod Stewart on Backing Vocals Is awesome it's more dramatic... : ) Did anyone knows how debris started why ronnie lane wrote it. Thanks....

  • BTW, I think it's Willie Weeks on the bass..not certain.

  • I was just too young then to realise how great his stuff was. Consider me corrected!

  • Thats Gallagher & Lyle behind Ronnie

  • pilgerman, what a stupid comment.

    I mean, really.

    Meanspirited and just foolish.

You think Ronnie Lane would appreciate that?

  • are you real man?what a thing to say..sad...
