  • >A recently widowed young woman hires imaginary friend for her lonely 3 year old daughter.

after i read this, i completely understood the story line.

am from a single parent family. and my mothers lived her life as a woman, not as a mother, which i really hate.

so except this mum asking him dins, this could be more simple and cute.

  • omg tropfest NY LOVES sunflowers.. or maybe it's the viewers, lol.

  • @UjjijjU i just thought that this years theme was sunflowers..

  • So it's actually the mothers imaginary friend, not the little girls.

  • My mummy is goooooneeee!!!! :'( im only 11 my sister is 20 my brother is 7.

  • I get this. It's in the psychology."Something amazing;brilliant" is the mother's notion of the person/thing who would change her child. And she expected something amazing & brilliant when she called.Sha also said she liked sunflowers.A fragrant of her imagination caused her to assume it would be a sunflower. All of it was in her mind;the positive development of her child was because of her mother's attitude & search for every little bit of change in her.

    I love this video!

  • Hehe, i knew it from the beginning. XD

  • i like this and all but i dont understand it

  • 11 fags who dont like this video -.-

  • So whimsical and so grown-up in a heart warming way... loved it - the way it reminds you not to complicate everything. was done with a spirit of loveliness.

  • aww, that was really great! fabulous storyline and good acting

  • "for tomarrow may rain, so...I'll follow the sun. The time has come, and so my love I must go. and thought I lose a friend, in the end you will know...oooh"

  • people don't get this, he follows the sun, she should, the sun is her daughter, she creates that character and enjoys his company, to please not just her daughter but also herself.

  • i dont think i acctualy get this one, there was something about it though, i enjoyed it alot but was he neer really there, and if that is the case what was it that she learned?

  • excellent! and very sweet.

  • The earth is still flat then.

  • Simply wonderful.

  • i'd be her sunflower *wink-wink*

  • oh what, so he just disappearred? hm. good ending.

good video. i liked this one

  • he was never really there.

  • ohhhhh righhhhhhhht. oops. :)

  • I would have freaked out. lol! Guy just disappears... great short film tho'

  • He didn't disappear! Well, he didn't exist at the 1st place. He was just her imagination.

She liked the sunflower and she needed a guy because she was as single mom. So, her mind created an imaginary sunflower-guy. But after a point, she got to realize that the guy is indeed imaginary...and that's why he suddenly disappears.

  • tht is a brilliant way of putting it and it wasnt her daughter who needed someone it was her and she realised tht after he disapeers tht is why he disapeers

  • Could somebody tell me which UK regional accent it is she's speaking?

I'm just fascinated with UK regional accents.

    Thanks in advance!

  • perhaps he was an angel...

  • so i figure it's a death she's recovering from? because a lot of comments say divorce, but at the beginning of the movie she opens up a sympathy card. but i guess the idea of it is as soon as she started to like someone else and move on, the imaginary friend wasn't needed anymore.

    .... i think. :P

  • Hehe I wish I had an imaginary friend. XD

  • I get it. Single mothers yearn for a kind hearted man who their children will grow to love. She knows her daughter needs a father to grow up. Children with a proper base of love and care from two parents grow up to be healthy and happy adults. Every single mother knows this, and if she loves her children, she knows she needs to find a man to stand in for the father they lost .. the sooner the better - kids grow up fast. A daughter without a father is like a seedling sprout without sunlight.

  • I totally didn't have a dad. >.>

Mom was young when she had me, so she didn't have much luck finding a guy her age who was all too keen on getting involved with a woman who had a kid.

It wasn't until I was older that she remarried, and he's the reason I had to move out.

Though what you said does make sense. I still wish my father hadn't left when I was born.

  • @Kaminsky15 Studies have shown that a mother and father is not needed. And that Gay marriages are able to successfully raise a child and comparatively have lower divorce rates. I'm not saying that your homophobic, but you phrased it "needs a father to grow up" when it's proven you don't. I again apologize if I have taken it the wrong way.

  • @XD4133 actually, social studies have shown that two parent homes with both male and female influence ARE indeed the most healthy environment for a child to grow up in.

  • i don't get it either...

  • I love it! So much.

  • I don´t get it...

  • that was so awesome

  • that little girl is so adorable!

  • i think the sunflower disappeared on its own and turned in to imaganary cause the little girl was tlakin to herself wasnt she? so she had the sunflower with her all along

  • so why did the sunflower disappear in the end? the little girl realized she could make her own friends?

  • The imaginary friend was the creation of the mother to help her with the death of her husband.

  • ooh thank u very much!!

  • smart film... ending was nice in that she didnt need the"imaginary" friend anymore to cope for her loss

  • I really like this video... Just a thought, I think the dad died, not absent due to divorce, if you note the card she opened in the mail

  • i liked this movie :)

    xx carla

  • I loved the ending

I see it as the mom needed someone to help her over come a recent divorce, and once she started to like someone else and move on, the imaginary friend left because he wasn't needed anymore.

And she's always loved sunflowers. The woman says "We need you" which symbolizes that sometimes we need an "imaginary friend" to comfort ourselves.

  • this is a nice job! I want to work for 4 hours per day...any one looks for me?

  • i think the imaginary friend is the absent father

  • I believe the meaning of this video is that toddlers get so much enjoyment out of something that isn't even there materially, towards the end of the video the woman says "We need you" which symbolizes that sometimes we need an "imaginary friend" to comfort ourselves. Even if you aren't a child.

  • wow ddnt know that but now i get it hah makes since

  • Wow that was deep... youre very good at analyzing

  • You didn't notice oranges shaped like eggs, tall skinny people that look like Whitley Strieber aliens, or black bars of wasted space on the sides of the screen?

Wow, maybe me and my friends are an anomaly. And the rest of the world will settle for mediocre.

Sorry about my attitude, but this is a pet peeve. I just can't believe so many people settle for this, on YouTube, commercial TV, in stores, etc.

  • I've looked again and everything does look slightly warped, like it's been squashed a bit, but no long, thin oranges! The oranges are definitely orange-shaped on my screen.

Yeah, wasted space at each side is there too, definitely, but still everything in the video is the right shape, if very slightly thinner.

  • i didn't knowtice anything...

  • What's your problem?

Nobody else noticed anything, what did you see wrong with it?

  • The fact that everyone and everything is unaturally Thin!!! Look at anything that is supposed to be circular, like the oranges. They are tall and thin like an egg standing on it's end. If you can't see that, your monitor is already tuned wrong, or maybe you have an advanced mutant brain that automagically compensates for distortion as it processes your visual information.

  • It's called aspect ratio. Your final video is obviously a 16x9 (Widescreen) Video.

Whoever uploaded it to YouTube probably sent it as a 4x3 file and/or didn't give enough information for YouTube to add back in the anamorphic stretch. YouTube just recently went widescreen, so maybe they should have given better instructions to posters.

  • Sorry about, "Mutant" That was rude and unnecessary. I actually meant a positive mutation that allows you to adapt to your environment. They say our brain compensates for a lot of visual information. Pilots who wore glasses that turned everything upside down, began to see correctly after a few days because their brain turned it back around. Maybe your brain does that, I didn't mean offense. Try looking anew. Everything is thin, as though somebody pushed in the sides of the screen.

  • LightPlay, this video wasn't made for youtube, it's a tropfest video. and I think you're slightly (slightly) overexaggerating, it is somewhat distorted but nothing too noticable. I think you need to settle down and concentrate on the important things in life

    Funky

  • That was really good and the mom was fucking adorable

  • i wud bang dat mom

  • n.n

  • ya see, he was never really there get it cuz it's an "imaginary" friend they needed.

  • i think that it was the mom imaginary friend. it looked like she just got seperated so she need to get over it and if it was childish oh well.

  • Aww, that's so sad, where did he go? :(

  • NOoooooooooooooooo where did he go!!

    I liked him!!!

    and the girl liked him!!!

    nuuuuuuu come back!!!

  • so amazing and soo cute hehe

  • this video was adorable, my theries are, they both saw what they wanted to see, or it was only there for her but how did he physically touch her?

  • so....i know he was wearing a funny costume

    and din't talk but..

    he was quite fit....

    XD

  • this was good but kind of sad at the end :(

  • I think he was supposed to disappear when they no longer needed him. I think he's an imaginary friend too. the mom mentioned an imaginary friend when she was talking on the phone.

  • I don't get it what happened to him, like where did he go?

  • it was in her imagination too

  • that made me smile haha. i loved it! :)

  • Wow, she was hitting on a guy who doesn't talk and wears a sunflower costume. Enough said.

  • ... he was hot...

  • rofl.. that had me thinking too..

  • nicee

  • wat song was this? it sounds so familiar. love the video by the way

  • well done

  • I LOVE THIS SONG BY THE BEATLES!!!

  • This is one of my favourite 2008 Tropfest NY finalists.

My interpretation of this short film is that this is the story of a lonely single mother's imaginary friend (not the story about imaginary friends we are used to). I believe that the brochure, the imaginary-friend company, and the person she hires as her daughter's imaginary friend are all actually figments of her own imagination.

  • Wooow that almost made me cry

That was really good, it makes you think which is what i feell film should do. instead of give you every solid fact. they left it open to interpretation.

    loved it

    :)

  • don't make moves on invisible friends. duh

  • haha lol :)
