I would add science and reason can no doubt add to moral and ethical questions simply by measuring consequences, by simply analysing causes and its effects and how they can line up with general well-being. For example, I think there is enough evidence to determine social democracies are far better ethically compared to such countries as theocratic Iran or communist North Korea. The claim Dr. Shermer makes that our natural instincts have evolved into knowing what is right and wrong is not even an argument. What is good and bad??? Who is to say what we believe what is right and wrong is correct? Many people have different instincts as far as what they believe is right from wrong. Dr. Shermer is only expressing how he personally feels what is good and evil. This is not a qualified argument; people who claim to be atheists base their morals on how they personally feel.
I can see how nonbelievers can care about how others feel and they do want to fit in with others as far as believing what is right and wrong. However, it is still based on how someone feels and you may choose to feel the same way. While Bible believers can't force their beliefs, they do have a foundation of backing their morals up. However, most people don't like an authoritarian system, so that's why many people omit the possibility of a creator who is above us.
Unless one hasn't had the experience of being a non-believer, he/she cannot say that morality and freedom from submission is the reason many turn away from religion.

"GOOD and EVIL" is "duality." Duality is created by "language" and "the mind." We as human beings can go beyond the mind(a bundle of thoughts.) When you transcend the mind you go to a "quiet mind" or "no mind." It is pure awareness, it is ZEN. BLISS!!! Now, with that being said, "good and evil" still exist, but it is SUBJECTIVE. What is "good" for someone, can be "bad" for others.

The claim Dr. Shermer makes that our natural instincts have evolved into knowing what is right and wrong is not even an argument. What is good and bad??? Who is to say what we believe what is right and wrong is correct? Many people have different instincts as far as what they believe is right from wrong. Dr. Shermer is only expressing how he personally feels what is good and evil. This is not a qualified argument; people who claim to be atheists base their morals on how they personally feel.

I can see how nonbelievers can care about how others feel and they do want to fit in with others as far as believing what is right and wrong. However, it is still based on how someone feels and you may choose to feel the same way. While Bible believers can't force their beliefs, they do have a foundation of backing their morals up. However, most people don't like an authoritarian system, so that's why many people omit the possibility of a creator who is above us.

As for feeling vicarious through someone else's feelings, adhering to a text can only limit the actions taken to increase each others' well being. In other words, religious texts, especially because they're from over 4000 years ago, sets the quota at a very low level.

Morals are based on Gods standards and Gods Glory. If you want to increase your morals, forget just come to the Cross. Jesus Christ will change you from the inside out and he was the only moral person in this world.

Actually, "coming to the cross" limits the good one can do. This is just another barrier that religion has made between humans and morality.

Coming to the cross removes all barriers, so you don't need religion when you come to the cross. Coming to the cross breaks the barriers to what human can do, breaks morality barriers, and defeats religion. You don't need religion. I totally disagree with everything you say.

What's not normal is saying that "coming to the cross" removes all barriers between religion and itself.
The statement that accepting Jesus Christ or whatever similar is not religion is ludicrous. It's a religious statement to assure something you don't have any evidence for, always was and always will be, most likely.

It's not a religious statement. Its a statement to have a real relationship with the heavenly father. I can assure 100% that there is evidence for, always was and always will be, most likely. If you don't think Christ is real, Bible is not accurate, etc., you are condemning yourself.

There is no such thing as evolution. Conversation is not over. Genesis 1:1-31 and Genesis 2:1-2. That is hard evidence that this is how we originated. There is no such thing as evolution or scientology. What they teach in school about evolution or scientology is a lie. Contradicts the Bible (The Word of God).

Okay, Jumanji boy, first of all, in this country, they don't freaking teach scientology in a science class. Maybe in a history or religion class, they do and they should. If they don't they need to include all religions in a separate curriculum under RELIGIONS. Don't try and get your fairytale in our science class. These are all evidence for evolution.

No contemporaries of jesus wrote about him outside of the bible.. No, forget Josephus (fraud), Pliny the Younger, tacetus (fragmented & vague),.. There is no historicity for jesus. We don't find any material outside of the NT godpels. It just insn't there!
