I know that airbags were standard on other GM models of the same year, but I guess Pontiac did a weird thing where they thought that airbags would never be mandatory by government protocol, seeing they put all those pushbutton triggers on the steering wheel for random functions. I guess they did that for the sake of being futuristic, didn't they? I remember those days of that. But one hobby I have involves repurposing what I dismantle, sometimes it involves trivial auto parts.
@SamuraiClinton The only cars that had airbags in 1991 were Camaros, Caprices, Corsicas, and Berettas. Airbags weren't manditory back then, just a passive safety system. To get around this GM just used door mounted seatbelts, which acted as an "automatic" belt. Meaning you could leave it buckled yet still open the door and get in and out.
@xScoobyDoo82x oh yeah. I remember that gag from the movie Tommy Boy where that feature disfigured the aim of a gun on the box truck tire of car parts to ship.
