  • would you recommend this lens for an APS-C size canon body?

  • @adrianrubi It just all depends on what you want to do with it. Its high quality so the pics will look great, you just have to ask yourself whether the range will be to long. It will probably be fine.

  • @CreativeOutletHobbie ...well, I like portraits and wide angle shots so this can be my walk around lens. though shutter speeds shouldnt be slower than 1/25 to 1/80 to get rid of my shaky hands effect. Hows the bokeh?

  • @adrianrubi i have it for my 40D great lens

  • @borden17 ...Nice. Is it great for wide angle shots too?

  • @adrianrubi The 24-70 might be a better match on the 1.6 crop body since you get 38-112mm range, it is versatile from what I shoot but if you need wide angle, get 17-55 or 17-40

  • Thanks for the review. I ended up going with the 24-70 for the extra stop. I didn't plan to wait for the IS because I don't believe it's gonna release. The 24-70 is already so expensive and adding another few hundred for IS, I honestly don't think I would buy it.

  • @watduzhkstand4 awesome. I've never heard anything bad about that lens.

  • Great review! I just got this lens last week and I'm waiting for my 7d to be shipped. I love how you reviewed it from an actual photographer standpoint (who actually uses the lens) rather get all technical and obsessed with the specs. Appreciate it.

  • I do admit, I love this lens as well. It is on my camera 99.99999999% of the time! But it's still not long enough for me. I need to get the EF 100-400 f/4.5-5.6 IS L, so I can reach out and touch the animals!

  • Wow that thing looks beat up!

  • @lfglass No not beaten up. I didn't clean it very well before the video. I do a lot of outdoor shoots so it can get dirty.

  • 24-70mm is a faster, sharper lens, and it has the extra stop. IS is only useful in extreme low-light situations when you're shooting handheld. It won't do anything to "freeze" a moving subject.

Ask yourself, how often are you going to be shooting in extreme low-light, hand-held? As for extra range.... just move forward two steps.

  • @Lucaspassmore All depends on really what you shoot and your style. I would prefer the extra 2.8 capability, but I liked the range and size of this lense.

  • 24 - 105 because it has IS and has better range. The rumor is that they are releasing a canon 20-70 2.8 with IS soon. That would be ideal for your camera.

  • Which is the better lens 24-105 or the 17-40 I have the opportunity to buy either one which one do you recommend for General purpose

I'll be using on a 50D thank you

  • I've never used it on a cropped body. It could be a little long on a cropped body, but that depends on what you do with it. Regardless of crop or no crop the sharpness and colors are going to be good.

  • is the 24-105 any good on a cropped body?thanks

  • PRESTONDAWS: It all depends on your personal preference. Many portrait shooters use these lenses, but many people think that the Canon 24-70 f2.8 is a sharper lens. It all comes down to your shooting style, I shoot a lot of travel portraits and I need that little extra bit of reach on the the long end. That is why I went for the 24-105 f4. Both of these lenses are fantastic, you can't go wrong!

  • Only if the 24-104 went to 2.8 then that would be another story..

  • Been trying to decide between this or the 24-70mm L 2.8. Portrait work, group or couple shots mainly. Any suggestions?

  • Rename your video title to "24-105mm". I did a lot of research before purchasing this lens and missed this video because I had "mm" in my search. Good video and review by the way! I can't wait until mine comes in the mail!!

  • I forgot to add in the video that ideally it would be a 2.8 lense vs 4.0. This one doesn't work great as the sun starts to go down.

  • Its just a beast of a lense, but I think that is just the nature of DSLR.

  • I came so close to getting this lens a couple of times. I remember thinking it was much bigger than I imagined when I finally saw one.
