But the way he prosecuted his invasion and occupation was really foolhardy and hamfisted. If Saddam had just gone in with troops and annexed Kuwait and left the population at peace and given some time for things to calm down it would of been accepted.

I'm a CONSERVATIVE and proud of it, and you BETTER care about what goes on in the middle east because it WILL effect us....if not now, then LATER. We said the SAME THINGS about Hitler in the '30s. Agree with you, AryanSurenPahlav, the US has no other choice but to be friend with Iran, the rising regional power in the Middle East. Iran has a well educated young population,natural resources, a rich thousand years old history, noother nation on earth except China can match that record.

The Iranian government which was democratically elected in 1953 was the perfect example of democracy, unfortunately Eisenhower & the Brits decided to support BP (British Petroluem)& overthrew Mossadegh to bring back the Shah.

I am not a fan of George "W" Bush ,but I must admit he was willing to sacrifice more young Americans & spend trillions of US Dollars down a black hole called "IRAQ & WAR ON TERROR". As long as young American kids die in the Middle East, it is OK with me but don't even think about young French, German, Dutch, Italian, Spaniard kids do the fighting for Uncle Sam- it is not going to happen.

I give Bush the credit for his support to sacrifice more young Americans. I am glad none of the politicians in France or other parts of Europe will be so foolish to do as Bush did.
PS: We send our troops to Afghanistan to fight the extremists but certainly not to Iraq, which had nothing to do with 9/11.

No, it is not about oil but geopolitical & military quagmire the US is facing in N E Asia. The US military is already stressed. You hear about US Soldier killed 5 fellow Army soldiers at mental health clinic in Bagdad (Camp Liberty)?
The US military is just about broken with 2 on going wars, I am sure the US Taxpayers are paying for Bush mistakes, well more American blood spilled in Middle East, who else should care but the American voters.
