  • I would have love to be there in that period of time (yeah I'm from 63 but to young to remember) when the music was great(on behalf of the crappy tunes that also excists)

Time when everything was normal, no Facebook, no Twitter and yet we were happy with all the thing we had then (exept the war and politic issues then)

  • so groovy. booker t was pretty tasty too. mmm. the sexy sixties. that's what the people on laugh-in called in.

  • Steve Cropper (guitar) was just a kid.

  • they need to get rid of the like button and replace it with LOVE!!!!!! :D

  • BOOKER T SURE COULD MAKE THAT ORGAN TALK!!! CLASSIC!!!!

  • PICK THEM GUITARS WHITE BOYS!!! ARE ANY OF THESE GUYS STILL LIVING?

  • @1goldbaby The white guy is a young Steve Cropper from The Blues Brothers Movie

  • BOOKER T WAS SO SO HANDSOME AND THE GUITAR PLAYERS WERE AWESOME..I WISH THEY HAD THE CLIPS WHEN THE BLACKS WERE DOING THE GREEN ONIONS (THIS WAS AN ATTEMPTED IMITATION BY THESE DANCERS....

  • Dont worry guys music is going to be good again

    thanks to the Black keys

  • @TheRockandroll420 what you talking about? there's never been a period in popular music history where there is no good music. and if music was going through a dry patch, i wouldn't put my trust in a derivative, mediocre blues duo.

  • The beginning of this song is the blues song "MY Babe" by Little Walter. Took me awhile to figure that out!

  • I love this. all the girls are dressed, good clean dancing. also the guys all dressed nicely.

  • I like the different intro so groovay

  • al jackson. quite likely the greatest time keeper to ever bash a kit!

  • Sounds Good!

  • The world was so much better during this era! I miss this music, and will be eternally grateful that I was there at the time to have groove'd with it back in the day, when love and understanding ruled the day--not dark and pessimistic like these days....... People were kinder, far more educated, caring, and just plain groovy! Real life was lighter & happer. I miss the 60's&70's! This is the greatest country in the world, and I've personally been there! God Bless America~and God Bless You!

  • Green Onions, We COMING FOR YOU NIGGA!

  • back then dancers wear appropriate clothes and don't have poles beside them...

  • Man I didn't think this song could get any cooler until I saw this video!

  • wow it reminds me of the movie hair spray!

  • awesome dance

  • I paid one dollar for this record at an antique store yesterday. I would've paid more.

  • STAX - MOTOWN 2-0

  • Beck must have seen this footage

  • I played in a band show tonight, and a School played this. When the announcer said the name of the song, "Green Onions." Everybody started laughing. I'm just thinking, "Are you kidding me, have they never heard this song before? Have they never seen Sandlot, have they never listened to a classic rock station on the radio?"

  • quadrophenia

  • this proves that you can make a badass song with no lycris

  • Fabulous sounds, fabulous efforts by artists. From the days of my youth when great countries still existed - like the United States of America.

  • Booker T now is Wrestler Baah!

  • The lyrics are so deep.

  • @RDBeatnik yeah the lyrics are gone , baby

  • dancing from that time looks embarrasing

  • @carlosjtown I was from that era,and this was my first taste of rythem and blues.I can tell you i didnt dance like that.It was only on tv. thank goodness!.It is embarrsing..Hahax

  • @carlosjtown

If 50 years Crunk dancing will probably look pretty silly to some. And it's true, they only danced like that on tv. When we were dancing to this at parties or "teen clubs" we danced much cooler.

  • i love this song

  • Oh my god... Thats my mom!

  • I'm 18 years old , everyone of my freinds listen to rap, im the only one who likes this type of music. they think im wierd for that reason but i dont care , never be ashamed of the music you like!!

  • @BarbyJones77 Play it for them. I'm 18 as well and nobody has ever disliked it when I played it.

  • @BarbyJones77 Go one further.. never be ashamed of who you are just because you like what you like. Too many conformists around these days..

  • @BarbyJones77 I'm the same way. I'm 18 and listen to nothing after around '64. This song right here is my favorite of all time

  • @BarbyJones77 They shouldn't think you're weird. Rap came from soul, R&B, and blues. Without Stax, Motown, etc, I don't think rap would be around.

  • @BarbyJones77 I listen to hip hop, metal, classical, jazz, soul, reggae, dubstep, this and much more!

    ~ FiswaT

  • @BarbyJones77 Ok, just don't start dancing like these chics or you'll really be in trouble.

  • Great tune, but all those beautiful dancing girls are probably now wearing diapers at the nursing home of your choice. Yicky.

  • @riverwalk282 sic transit gloria mundi

  • dancer are freaking funny!!! xD

  • I just got a hammond M3 at a thrift store, works great. I can respect that man's utter skill at playing that organ just from trying to figure out the drawbars lmao. Classic song

  • Best song in GTA SAN ANdereas

  • If heaven exists, I want God to play this awesome tune when I arrive

  • 50 people, are a dumass!

  • "If my dog was as ugly as you, I'd shave it's butt and tell it to walk backwards." The Sandlot rocks.

  • Did anyone else hear this on American dad

  • this song is perfect for everything

  • give him his due. al jackson was an amazing drummer. and cropper is possibly the coolest guitarist ever.

  • i like rap but u got to love this tune! it's classic. u just feel so good while listening to it

  • @MrRobbieboy74 Premier Guitar has an interview with Steve Cropper in their 6/11 issue. They asked about the instrumental nature of the band, he said they were kicking around in the studio one day waiting for a singer to come by and do a demo (they were Stax session musicians) and stax founder jim Stewart hit the record button. That was this song, #1 hit Green Onions. I guarantee you Clapton and Mayall think more of Steve Cropper than "Just OK".

  • @MrRobbieboy74 Yeah, both songs are based on a 12-bar blues, as are COUNTLESS blues songs. "Help Me" is a great jam, but you are dead wrong as "Green Onions" is from 1962 and Williamson's "Help Me" is from 1963. Sounds like you got your facts messed up.

  • @travisreininger yes i conceded i was wrong a while ago. besides so what if it's based on 12 bar blues. they are different songs. the bassline melody is unique and created by booker t and mg's. to say that it's a rip off of robert johnson is pretty narrow minded.

by your logic all music is the same because it comes from the circle of fifths.

  • @MrRobbieboy74 No. I was simply stating a similarity between the two songs.

  • i dont really understand how this is a song. john mayall's Help Me is like the real version of this. this feels like just an impromptu blues jam that is OK but nothing spectacular, esp compared with Mayall and Clapton jamming.

  • Anyone know of other instrumentals from the same time that charted/are famous? I know of Theme from a Summer Place and Love is Blue, but are there others?

  • Go girls. Cracking video right back in those 60s! Please also check out the new version of Telstar. TELSTAR by THE DUELLING PIANOS.

  • My dad plays this all the time on his B3.... EPIC

  • @TIKIMAN198 Ahh, The Hammond B3, . Awesome! Does your dad have a Lesley Speaker setup with his B3? My dad was Director of Manufacturing for Hammond Organ Company in Chicago until they got bought out by one of the other organ co.'s in the 70's. We also had a B3. I remember my dad brought home a cassette recording when these guys came to the factory & sat down at an organ and played for a little bit. This was my dad's favorite song! Mike

  • @textipod Yeah he has the Lesley. It;s actually his second B3 he had one back in the 90's but sold it. He missed it so much he bought another one! :D

  • @TIKIMAN198

MY Dad does too!! They had it going on back in the 60's!!

  • @TIKIMAN198 So does mine! ...on his B3 Home edition. I guess it's a dad thing to do.

  • @TIKIMAN198 um ok

  • @lennon4567 Helps if you can read.

  • @TIKIMAN198 helps if you can no i'm 48

  • @lennon4567 Haha your comment just proved my point.

  • @TIKIMAN198 hey stop being a dick

  • @TIKIMAN198 ha my daddy played this song on His guitar! he raised us playing music, in bars and clubs allover LA.. this was his favorite jam! your daddy ROCKED it DUDE!

  • This was one of my favorite records to dance to.

  • First heard it on GTA San Andreas and I fell in love with it. Something about police chases and car crashes, makes this song so much better.

  • i love this! :)

  • Ohhhhhhh yeahhhhhhhhhhh.......!

  • Steve Cropper is THE man!

  • Classic song--but they're being forced to pretend to play, as bands often were in the 1960s on these pop shows. Notice that there are no cables attached to the guitar or bass. The organ Booker T. is playing is a C-3, functionally identical to a B-3, but the song was recorded with an M-3 spinet, which is what you're hearing. It sounds like they added a little reverb to the original recording to make it sound "live."

  • "Shindig"

  • My son has just turned nine [March 2011] and is being taught this on the guitar [his 2nd guitar lesson, today!] and he thinks it's GREAT!! So, yes, it not only stands the test of 'time' but 'age' as well!!!!P.S. I'm 46 and I think it's great too!!!!

  • I like dancing, but frankly, I find this dancing pretty funny looking. And, this is my era! It's so jerky, and contrived. No negativity towards the dancers though...they're working their ----- off.

  • Many thanks for posting this classic 12 bar track by the MG's.

Track at start is "Big Train" (also from "Soul Dressing" album).

Bands never sound the same after hearing these real professionals.

Booker T could play without looking at the keyboard. Class !

  • I love those Girls, and their dancing, very clean; no sexual jestures!!!

  • Hahaha why would someone search this and click "dislike"

  • Those chicks are sexy!

  • Awesome! Those chicks are sexy!

  • @gorthar30

Probably not so much now though, eh? Lol.

  • That's right, you just found yourself tapping your foot with the beat

  • Alumnos!! ... riff rock numero uno.

  • no, you are the dogs bollix

  • This song is timeless! One of my very favorites from this era....you even will hear it on some commercials today so that certainly does say something about its longevity!! Oh how I wish I could go back to those times right now...they were sweet.

  • this tune is the dogs bollocks

  • I did the twist to this in first grade. Now I listen to it while cruising with the top back on my car. Socially, this group was way ahead of its time.

  • Booker T showing how to play it himself:

    homestudioguru . com/1366/do-you-play-green-onions-correctly-find-out-now/

  • come on round for some green onions and red roosters ;)

  • awesome to the max!

for a raw 60´s soul stomp party...check out the Vinyl Uploads in my Channel

    have fun

  • To hell with justin beiber this is real music!

  • @nosecone33 Everyone just shut the fuck up about justin bieber. Nobody cares about him

  • Hammond C3 in this video... same internals as a B3 but with a vanitiy case designed for the lady players of the day..lol

  • People who dislike this, have absolutely no taste in music, Regardless of your actual favourite genre. This is an absolute classic, and will always be. And will stand the test of time, just as it has so far. Booker T and the MG's FTW!

  • @ultimate47 True that! It's just a solid groove by any standards. That's why almost all comments on this video are positive.

  • @ultimate47 this crosses all lines, rock, blues, soul, r&b, great song... and he's playing on a wurlitzer 4500 btw

  • @ultimate47 Don't really get what you mean. Just because it's a classic, it does not mean that people who dislike this, does not have any taste in music. I like it, of course i do, but i know other music genre's, that are really good. Not trying to be a douche. Just saying.

  • Classic tune and great band there is a good cover version of this by a band called Kolton on here -- not as good as original tho

  • this is much better than today's crap.

i mean great music, cool dancing no crazy light and pyro fx, the chicks are actually wearing clothes! and look cute instead of looking like porn stars...

these days there's less talent and more sex... its ruining the record industry and corrupting children...most pop songs these days are more explicit than the heavy metal songs i listen to! they dont swear but they suggest sex...ask a 10 year old girl what songs she likes then listen to the words...shocking

  • @gillenpantera = you do realize that the EXACT same thing was said about the MG's back in the 60's, right? I mean, a band with BLACK and WHITE musicians? On the same stage?! I'm not necessarily sticking up for current music (I'm old too), but come on...

  • Chuck Norris can sing this

  • Ugh. I just heard Green Onions in a commercial for Depends for Men. X-O

  • This one of those songs that will always be hip, for some reason. As if it's immune to time and people's fickle tastes. You could play it at a high school dance today and the girls would hit the floor, making the boys blush and follow.

  • Yes @Getaro, "the man on the piano-thing" does appear to be pretty darned good.

  • The man on the piano-thing has hands of gold!

  • @Getaro It's called an organ. A Hammond B-3 to be exact.

  • @cky12qxz oh thanks for the info bro!

  • @Getaro ANYTIME BRUV

  • Crazy. This is LIVE TV. That means no fuck ups. I bet you wouldn't see many stars attempting to do this today, minus the late night talk shows and SNL, of course.

  • oh yeah,- this is a great song to have on when your driving your Muscle Car, Like i use to.--70 Camaro 375 hp--150 mph

  • oh yeah, this is a good song too have on when your Driving your Muscle car..like I use to.--70 camaro 375 hp--150 mph

  • aren't these guys entertaining enough w/o the dancers, cute as they are??

  • booker t was also the keyboard in the Markeys doing "last night"

  • ClassicZzzZZzzz Put me to sleep

  • This reminds of a Tarantino or a Scorsessee movie.

  • got hectic on here! LOLOLOL! what a joke this hillbilly russian ass puppet is! if you are russian, and assuredly not an officer. hahaha, either way... if you are russian you shouldn't critiize anything american. your country ran itself into the 3rd world trying to keep up with us. go stand in line for some stale bread and a rotten potato while your leadership eats well and beds prostitutes. lots to be proud of to be russian these days. lolololol!
