The 2005 Trojans looked very beatable, and so did the Texas Longhorns. I think that Penn State would have had a good chance at beating either. I know that Penn State struggled with Florida State, who was underrated that year, but Penn State had two key injuries in that game. Paul Puzlusney was a huge part of the Penn State defense and Tony Hunt was about 1/3 of the entire Penn State running game. It only takes one pin for the entire machine to unravel, but Penn State still held it together.
Sure they would have. You could make the argument that Penn State played a lot of weak teams. And that would hold water if they struggled. But they kicked the living shit out of them. 63-10 over Illinois, 35-14 over Wisconsin, 44-14 over Minnesota, and these scores could have been much worse except that Joe Paterno always pulls the starters, and even the second stringers, if the score gets out of hand. Penn State led 56-3 at halftime over Illinois and took a knee in the second half.

The Penn State offense would have been able to go through either defense.
If you think that game had terrible officiating, you should have seen the Michigan game where Penn State had its only loss.
Did you even see Penn State play in 2005? After getting their confidence back from a few games after two disastrous seasons, Penn State pretty much killed everyone. Including a 44-14 walloping of a then #18 Minnesota team, a 17-10 not-as-close-as-the-score smothering of the Buckeyes (who finished #4 in the polls), and Penn State absolutely killed Illinois at Illinois, leading 56-3 at halftime.

The 2005 Trojans looked very beatable, and so did the Texas Longhorns. I think that Penn State would have had a good chance at beating either. I know that Penn State struggled with Florida State, who was underrated that year, but Penn State had two key injuries in that game. Paul Puzlusney was a huge part of the Penn State defense and Tony Hunt was about 1/3 of the entire Penn State running game. It only takes one pin for the entire machine to unravel, but Penn State still held it together.

Sure they would have. You could make the argument that Penn State played a lot of weak teams. And that would hold water if they struggled. But they kicked the living shit out of them. 63-10 over Illinois, 35-14 over Wisconsin, 44-14 over Minnesota, and these scores could have been much worse except that Joe Paterno always pulls the starters, and even the second stringers, if the score gets out of hand. Penn State led 56-3 at halftime over Illinois and took a knee in the second half.

Saying it would have been a blowout is exaggeration, I admit it. But if you saw any of Penn State's games, they had a good chance of beating USC or Texas. They were cheated out of the Michigan game, blew out most of their opponents, and only played a close one with the Seminoles because Penn State had two key injuries and the Seminoles felt they had a LOT to prove.
I'll admit that the 2006 and 2007 Trojans could have handled the Nittany Lions, but 2005 is a different story.

In 2005, Penn State had a defense that would have stuffed the Trojans and the Longhorns like a Thanksgiving turkey, it was a defense that didn't allow more than 21 points in 2004, and in 2005 still didn't allow anyone 28 or more points. The Penn State offense would have been able to go through either defense.
If you think that game had terrible officiating, you should have seen the Michigan game where Penn State had its only loss.

Did you even see Penn State play in 2005? After getting their confidence back from a few games after two disastrous seasons, Penn State pretty much killed everyone. Including a 44-14 walloping of a then #18 Minnesota team, a 17-10 not-as-close-as-the-score smothering of the Buckeyes (who finished #4 in the polls), and Penn State absolutely killed Illinois at Illinois, leading 56-3 at halftime.
I'm not saying Texas and USC weren't good, they were, but Penn State could've beaten either of them.

Good teams have been historically shafted by the polls. Most imfamously, 1969 where Richard Nixon declared Texas national champions over undefeated Penn State (the two never played each other). And another famous shafting is in 1994. It was for several reasons that they turned down the Cotton Bowl slot. One was the rumor of how their black football players would be treated, another was anticipating Ohio State winning against Michigan and being stuck playing for the #2 slot. Also, the players were given the vote because of rumors that it was like playing an away game, and not a bowl game. It's something they regret to this day.
But they still beat a #4 Missouri team and should have won a share of the championship.

It's pretty easy to go on a 34 game win streak when you're a decent team in the Pac-10. If USC had played in the SEC over that span, they would have been 29-5, maybe 30-4. You can't be serious in your 22-Rose-Bowl-wins argument! The Rose Bowl wasn't open to anyone outside the Pac-10 and Big-10 until 2002. You're smoking crack -- big surprise being from Southern California. Furthermore, Texas' QB is named Colt McCoy. USC's QB is named John David Booty. Hmm... who's the bitch-boy? I hope your Booty-boy has his "Trojans" ready for protection. Afterall, the Longhorns proved to you, face-to-face, that there's nothing worse than a big hole in a Trojan.

Hey, dummy convictking...Uh, moron, if you watched that game then you would know Texas took the opening drive straight down the field in 5 plays before our stupid coaching staff got our starting QB fucked off with 3 dives over the top when we have a 6'3" 275 pd. fullback that would've walked in. WE KILL K-STATE AT HOME THIS YEAR ! Hold your nuts on us if you want to--we're going to bust yours !

TEXAS 2030 maybe! You guys don't have enough depth on that team to be talking about 2007!! USC had another shot to win one last year, and even though they did'nt make it back they still had a great shot. That was with 2 heisman trophy winners leaving along with another great running back. Texas was no where near a conversation of national title, nor will they be next year. Face it, you had a good season that year but it'll be a while again before you have another shot at the national title.

Hey,226jesse..Man, since you can predict the future, give me some good stock tips or winning lottery numbers. Shit, we've got a better chance than you of winning another title. I don't think you realize what we have coming back...but, I guess we'll just wait & see if you get another shot at us this year. Maybe we'll see you in the Sugar Bowl..that's if you can get by Oregon St. or UCLA....
