  • sounds like the jackpot on a fucking fruit machine

  • is the bass the same as pattituci's????

  • @technisize No,

  • People have to understand this, he is a musician, not just a bass player. It just so happens that he chooses bass to express the music that he creates, same as a violinist, same as a guitarist, same as a pianist. its all about expression and what medium you represent it as. Yes I like this, and yes I play guitar.

  • Envious guitarists are envious.

  • Dave is my favourite bass player! Met him at London Bass Guitar show. A true musician and true gentleman with awesome hair! :P

  • What a racket!

  • it sounded like street fighter songs which i LOVE!

  • That digitech whammy is a tone killer... I threw mine in the garbage where it belongs

  • what the fuck is this? Bass is a completely different (the best) instrument, you really didn't understand nothing.... Come back to guitar please...

  • Bloody hell guys, stop telling him to buy a guitar and let the guy experiment!

  • Where's the groove ?? Groove is essence of Bass. James Jamerson is God.

  • buy a guitar

  • buy a guitar

  • he is not a bass player

  • Comment removed

  • @fendermaxime If he's not a bass player, then why the heck is he a well known bass player then?

  • Great thing about extended range instruments, you can get higher or lower registers while still being able to go back to the "regular" scale.

  • Daaaaaym.

  • It is a guitar cause it has 6 strings, bass has 4

  • @t1t296 No, its a bass because it is in a lower register. Hence bass. String number is irrelevant

  • @t1t296 Then what would my bass be? It has 5 strings... According to you it wouldn't be a guitar, cause it's missing 1 string. And it wouldn't be a bass, cause it has 1 string too many.

I'm wondering what you think of 7 or 8 string guitars.

  • @fivestringsonabass i stand corrected

  • You;re a great bassist......however, if you're going to go through all that.......just play a guitar then.

  • i didnt have enough room in my pokedecks for this song

  • Wrong instrument buddy. I think a toilet is what you are looking for.

  • that's actually very impressive.

  • is this a regular whammy or a bass whammy

  • Fuck the haters, they're probably the same people who criticise people for playing bass with a pick.

  • That's a guitar.

    Not Bass...

  • @NerdyGlasses347 AMEN!!!!!!!!!!!!

You summed up my last 13 posts with that.

You and I get it. They don't.

  • @GaryNull

    4/10

  • @NerdyGlasses347 im pretty shure its a bass(search 6-string bass on wikipedia)lol

  • @prayxforxvillains

    I know it's a bass.

But we can't call it the bass anymore because a sound is not bass! :)

  • @NerdyGlasses347

    *facepalm*

    ugh...

  • @NerdyGlasses347

thats defo a bass. Sei bass actually, handmade in a little workshop in a shop called the bass gallery.

  • NIIIIICE!:D And that bassguitar looks sweeeet! I've never heard of this guy before, but he was really good. I specially liked the harmonica at he end:)

  • Why must you all argue over this? maybe he's juyst trying out the pedal to see how it sounds. And what's with people saying the bass is meant to play just boring notes? Not true at all. Bass can do so many amazing things. I think the bass is one of the most amazing insturments ever created. Nice pedal btw

  • cool :)....

    keep rockin....

  • i am a bassist and i use high notes for bass solos when i have them so i dont understand what is the matter with him not playing the "rhythm" notes

  • all you guys are taking this too seriously. It is just a player fucking around at a convention to show off a pedal. Just because he plays like this for a minute at a booth demo doesn't mean thats the only way he ever plays. people are allowed to have multiple abilities.

  • BTW, NICE video, liked it a lot. If every bass player uses the same ideia, and had to play the same way, music would be boring, and always the same.

  • this is actually epic; mind = blown

  • This bass player is playing guitar. It's not because he plays a solo, it's because of the sound. Every bass player should play solos but a bass solo not a guitar solo.

  • Let the dude play this on his bass, i mean if he likes doing this what the problem than? it also sounds cool.. If u want this sound it doesnt mean u need to buy a guitar, get over it u fucking idiots, he's way better than all u guitarists out there. Try to play on a 6 string bass ;)

  • nobody needs this !!

  • Another bassist who thinks he has the right to stay away from 4 bar simple riffs.. What a nerve.

  • He's obviously talented....but that was just awful to listen to. It's not how flashy/out there/ground breaking the playing is. All that matters is the sound produced , and that was a terrible sound.

  • Check out Davew Marks Spain- much more "bassy". He is a really good player though- just lost in mdihell at the moment lol muhahaha. Happens to me too when I get too close to synth/whammy effects. I kinda dig it- especially the part about him killing Sting

  • i dont like this. i mean, playing bass with a whammy, cool. 6 string with a whammy, cool. 6 string with a whammy, as if it were a guitar? get a fucking guitar.

  • omg you just killed Sting

  • when are douchebags gonna stop pulling this dumb ass bullshit?! This guy blows ass.

  • Does anyone know the name of that Wah he is using? I see it everywhere.

  • This is a greart musician, but if he likes this sound, he should play guitar. Bass is something else...

  • watch his other video's

  • it will be good without the sounds can any one tab it ?

  • thats no bass nomore.. just an oversized guitar

  • He should get a guitar.

  • UGH! I want that setup! >:(

  • Jak organki :D

  • The video response I attached to this video features a bass player using a whammy as well! Good stuff

  • doesnt sound very nice, but nice playing!

  • is it a Status bass?

  • Go buy a guitar !

  • Put down that bass and buy yourself a guitar.

  • horrible for fuck sake say it with music!

  • BASS is the mother of all instruments.

    Ha!

  • What ever happened to the bass? Lets play proper bass...come on...you can do it...All this soloing doesn't make any sense...try make some music dude.

  • @sigriddevos Haha. Do you even know who you are bad mouthing?

You may not like this video. That is fine. But don't belittle a musician that is pure class.

  • agreed

  • Bass sounds best even with high notes, This video is awesome, Guitar player should stop being lame and admit it they like these stuff

  • I love it.

  • the death of the guitar is imminent ^_^

  • crazy! love it

  • звучи като синтезатор

  • i want to here that without the pedal, shit...

  • I'm so sick of ignorant people saying "Buy a guitar" as soon as someone plays higher on a bass. Have you ever thought that maybe bass players who play higher prefer the timbre of the bass over the guitar not just the fact that you can play much lower with a bass? What's so wrong with using the whole scale of the fretboard, especially during a bass solo?

  • Its funny if a guitarrist plays in a lower regist and have a 8 strings guitar in drop g there are no problem but if a bass player want to play high people are ready to criticize.

  • @remotecontrol1324 - You don't get it.

The main reason people play bass is that they are not a good enough guitarist and or vocalist. They should just be happy enough that someone let them in their band to play bass in.

We already have enough bad guitar players and we don't need "bass players" wanting the spot light with god awful soloing like this. And this is just garbage playing, you have to admit that.

  • @GaryNull ok that was just stupid

  • @remotecontrol1324 - I know I have high standards so most won't understand.

I stand behind what I said.

  • @GaryNull You are my hero! My dream is just be half of what you are!!!

Honestly your a fucking prick who doesn't treat the bass with respect. And I am guitarrist! bass is a instrument like any other so the guy can do what the fuck he want to with the bass... soloing, rhymes, playing card or even marry with the bass!

  • @GaryNull ....umm...hey retard...you do know that a lot of bassists..such as myself play guitar....we play bass cuz there's a lot more you can do with a bass than a guitar and also some of us prefer not playing with picks...a 6 string bass can go as high as the 8th fret on the high e of a standard 6 string guitar..also, the bassist of slayer, venom, motorhead, rush, ... all singers..stfu

  • @newoaklandlocal - I was talking about the vast majority of bass players. I've been playing for 32 years and have seen a lot. Let me put it like this: if you were a (great) guitarist in a band, would you hire some bass player to "play crappy solos" or a bass player "who shines in the background"? The great bass players do their thing behind the scenes - an art very hard to master.

  • @GaryNull...ok honestly, yes this does suck, but only cause of the harmonizer. their are plenty of bassists out there that play way better than any guitarist i've ever heard. you say you've been playing for 32 years...playing what? the guitar, bass..both? either one. it doesn't matter, you don't deserve to own an instrument if you think an instrument automatically makes you less talented. and as victor wooten said...within a year, if you practice everyday....you can master it in your own way

  • @newoaklandlocal - I play bass in bands. I also play guitar. I have been in bands where I could play guitar better than the guitarist. I never said playing bass "makes you less talented". My main point, which not many people get, is a lot of these guys "want the spotlight" and don't want to do their job - bass playing.

A bass player is free to play whatever he wants. But it he's soloing and tapping, I hope he likes playing alone, unless you have skills like Jeff Berlin.

  • @GaryNull so if a bass player is just jamming by himself and he's trying out a few techniques like soloing and tapping, he should play alone?

A prime example to prove you wrong is Cliff Burton of Metallica, he solos like he's a guitarist on at least 1 studio song in every album before he passed away (Anesthesia -Pulling Teeth, Call of Ktulu, and Orion) and live even more, and he is probably one of the most respected bassists ever, so you're saying Metallica should have kicked Cliff out, right?

  • @SlapBassOdyssey - of course not. Each band is different.

But for the most part, a bass player who can "play bass" great, like John Deacon of Queen, gets much more respect than someone who is "playing lead" on the bass. A good bass line can drive the whole song, . . even just by being in the background. A bass player should master that and not soloing.

  • @GaryNull

John Deacon was the player who receives the lower payment in Queen. Who are YOU to tell what a bassist should do, or not? Who are you to tell the a bassist can´t solo? I bet John Entwistle(The Who) and Geezer Butler( Black Sabbath) don´t agree too much with your misguided thoughts.

  • @GaryNull After listening to this solo again, I see where you're coming from, but I think there needs to be an equal balance between playing basic bass, just jamming over a chord, and playing lead, and a bassist should know a bit to enough on how to play lead to build his own solo, because that in turn develops a know-how of what to do during a guitar solo, I think this guy is a good bass soloist, I don't know how good he is in a song behind other instruments.

  • @SlapBassOdyssey This guy dave marks is good, and plays better stuff then what he is playing here, . . but my whole point from the start was the main purpose of the bass is to play in the background, and doing that well is the true mastery of bass playing. A lot of guys start playing solos on the bass and they are just not good.

  • @GaryNull But this clearly quite good, under what authority are you criticizing music with? Just fuck off, your opinions aren't needed.

  • @GaryNull Yeah, I'll agree with that. I'm a bassist and I was like that at first where I would just play it like a guitar and it would suck. I attempt to solo sometimes now but it's a lot more jazz bass solo than like this, but to do something like this video and make it sound good you need a fair balance of the jazz bass and lead guitar, more towards the jazz bass because it's a bass solo.

  • @GaryNull bass does not always have to be a background instrument it is used as a soloing instrument in jazz, fusion, Latin and funk.... and dave marks is a great bassist

  • @GaryNull Hes playing at a trade show, by himself. If he just played the bass notes of a song in the background nobody would watch him

  • @GaryNull

When you play bass you use a bow and just play roots rights? I mean that's what bass started as. Its so funny watching hypocritical purist get all pissed off because some decides to play a few octaves higher than an instruments natural register.

  • @tootightjosh I have nothing against a bass player taking the spotlight for a solo, . . as long as it's good. Most bass players can't even play bass well, . . let alone solo. My favorite bass player is Jeff Berlin, . . the best soloing bass player in the world. His solos are incredible, and only on 4 strings too.

  • @ihs0y no u

  • @GaryNull bass in the background? What kinds of music do you listen to. Ever hear of the balance triangle?

  • @GaryNull guitar actully evolved from the upright bass, becuase the upright bass turned into the smaller bass guitar and then the guitar

  • @cruzdrum what???

  • @Mattgt128 not the acoustici ment the electric, the first pickups were made for upright basses ,becuase in a concert setting they were too quite

  • @cruzdrum dont think so bro, the guitar came from the lute, which dates back several hundred years

  • @remotecontrol1324 trust me, there are still problems when guitar players do that.

  • @remotecontrol1324 its called a bass if it was higher it would be a guitar

  • @remotecontrol1324

Because guitar riffs one octave lower sound bad-ass, instead of the basslines that are played one full octave upper, they sound like some kind of 4 string gay guitar. Unless you´re Stanley Clark xD.

    Groove 4 life man.

  • you should go fuck yourself and get a bass to discover this pleasure.

    sucker

  • dragonforce meets the police. nice

  • sounds like message in a bottle towards the end

  • it is

  • wow man fuckin awesome, crazy sound out of bass!. also you toar it up !

  • This guy probably should just play guitar,

  • WAAAAAAAASP IN A BOTTLE!

  • what bass is that? its beautiful... and also by the looks of it very expensive

  • kinda sounds like a Dragonforde solo...

  • cry for eternity perhaps ? i dunno they all sound similar

  • Fag, if you don't have a useful opinion don't share it.

  • lol its cooler than guitar

  • hellz ya...im a bass player myself...i like the way it sounds much better

  • someone please tell that guy he can do whatever the fuck he wants.

  • HAHA! totally in agreement and if he took the time to lok into Dave he'd realise that he knows how to 'lock in' with a drummer and step back to create a solid sound for a band, Fucking right on Conor. WIN,

  • thanks man, i do what i can.

  • yeah - tech ability:8, musical feel for the bass (the clue's in the name, man):0

    dbm

  • I agree, musical feel for the bass: -5 ^^

  • That was chach. Cock rock on a sweet bass

  • it's good skill, but if a bass is going to be used for that, you might aswell play the guitar because in my opinion i feel that for one the bass is a 4 stringed beast, and it's not meant to be so tampered with and sounding like a dragonforce recording. but that's my opinion, although it was sick playing, but like i said, if a bass is going to be used for that you might aswell play guitar, it just doesn't make sense to me.

  • As true as that may be...Even a beast needs to break its chains and explore the things it can do right?

  • Les Claypool, search it. :D

  • lol primus sucks :)

  • please tell me you're joking. otherwise just lay down and die.

  • clearly, ur not a real fan of primus.... primus sucks a.k.a. primus rocks/rules/tec. has been a very famous expression

  • Yeah, the key word being been. The band doesn't use the phrase anymore, and kinda dislike it now

  • sucre11,

It is like veggie burgers... they look like meat, taste like meat..... then, eat the real thing... oh, and listen to James Jamerson for real bass.

  • That was pretty sick. It would've been way cool just naked bass though.

  • dragonforce meets the police

  • i thoguht hat ws a guitar

  • he just played random crap

  • That was pretty melodic.

  • i would like to see you play better .

  • 420dime420 he does play guitar, but he plays bass in the band hes in, and he was just having fun.

  • Man how are you doing the thing at about 0:40 where you have the pitch-up effect and the harmonies at the same time? I have a Whammy and would love to pick that trick up. Seems like you'd need two of them. Great solo.

  • Its a recording thing and it plays back.

  • what kind of a bass is that?

  • It's a Sei Flamboyant bass

  • nice GUITAR solo..

  • .......it's played on bass, therefore it's a bass solo.

  • arggh that is actually the craziest thing!

  • Took me a minute to figure out that sound was coming from you! Right on brah.

  • wow. cool.

  • man I don't believe that you exist xD

    awesome!

    we want more!

    we want more!

  • i bass stops being a real bass when you add a 5th string, when you add a 6th string its treason. 4 strings ftw.

  • 5 stings is ok, as long as you add a string to go lower. Long live the low end.

  • Oh, my f***ing god. I give up. That's insane!

  • sounds like "sending out an S.O.S"

  • The song, "message in a bottle" is the song with those lyrics in it... xD

  • there are also electric guitars that sound similar, and are cheaper than a 6 string bass and the whammy pedal

  • but they aren't awesomer are they. . . ARE THEY!?!?!?!?

  • well yeah, sure they are!

  • a guitar is a guitar but a six string bass isn't a bass its a bass with six strings plus it's in the tuning of a six sting bass not a guitar. If you are a guitar player its awesomer but the guitar has overplayed and has become overrated by untalented musicians who play it because its cool.

  • Deberias comprarte ua guitara electrica, y no un bajo, ese sonido no me gusta, suena horrible, es feo, seria mejor en una guitarra, pero no en un Bajo.

  • What are this pedals for? Instead of buying a bass and a pedal, why shouldn't I buy a guitar?

  • if you like playing guitar yeah but some people like bass. plus despite what you might think basses actually sound a little different than guitars. plus plus different tunings. plus plus plus shut the hell up.

  • Now all he needs is a good bass player

  • can you also play electric guitar your amazing
