  • friggin classic video!!

  • Herb heard a fantastic ear, and could brilliantly arrange standards, Latin tunes and novelty songs like no one else. He really built his own sound. His take on certain songs is so distinct, and really different than anyone else recording.

  • The TJB did several TV specials in the 1960s and I remember watching every one of them. They were great. I would love to see them again.

  • If you put 3 trumpet players in 3 different booths and had them play three notes I could tell you which one was Herb Alpert. His sound is so unique. Only he can make the sound that he does. Everyone else is...well, BLAH!!!

  • Herb Alpert & The TJB made some great music that will stand the test of time.

  • Herb Albert's music videos are very advanced for their time!

  • Love this song

  • I can clearly remember the night that I sat with my family and watched the original braodcast of this show. while living in Michigan in '67. It was fantastic then and is still great today. Memories of a by gone era....compared to the garbage that passes for music today. Herb, you gave us GREAT memories of how music can be palyed and we love you for it....!!!!

  • I don't believe I can add anything that has not already been expressed here, except to say that I agree with everyone. AND Of Course that H.A. Also remains my All time favorite artist above all the other music I still listen too. Thanks for posting such wonderful and positive remarks. Glad to see that I'm not the only one that feels this way

  • This is too funny......................

  • I listen to Herb and his band every chance I get.

  • I still live in that time period of music.Like who said this is gone?I listen to what i want to.It really is too bad that people just live in the past as far and music and other things. You bet it was a great time for music, but who said that it had to go away?I play this and others like it all the time.I stoped likeing music in 1996.Anything after that is just pure garbage.Long may you run!

    Mike

  • Herb is the best lookin man I have EVER seen in a tux! And yes he had it all! I grew up on his music. Even over the years of all the transition of different music & artists Herb Alpert STILL remains my favorite musician of all time! Herb is the MAN!!!!

  • Love the rooftop dancers!

  • I think it sounds like the kind of music they use on some of the Super Mario games

  • Herb Alpert had it all. And of the many versions of What Now My Love that became hit singles (including Sonny and Cher, Mitch Ryder and all of the others), Alpert's is still the winner. BTW, for what it's worth, the song itself is from 1966, although the TV special is from 1967.

  • Damn- that man looks good in a tux, white pants and sweater- whatever- it's all good. He was a talented stud. Oh yeah, and a great trumpet player.

  • Check out the lady in the yellow sweater at 1:13. Cute!

  • thanks to the goochman! who produced/ directed it?

  • Love the band and the music, but, please, Herb, it's "Tee-wanna", not "Tee-a-wanna"! There's no "a" direclty after the first two letters of the word!

  • My favorite Herb Alpert song from my favorite album. I love it as much now as I did '67. It'd be nice to see some real concert footage of the Tijuana Brass back then. I like these 'music videos', but some LIVE footage would be a true delight.

  • Fantastic!! Happy Birthday to Mr. Herb Alpert!!

  • Que linda melodia =)

  • love this! I never got to see this when it aired so thanks so much!!

  • That version of that song is Instant Happy for me.

  • NOFX FTW!

  • love herb who was his first wife?

  • @sinnerstarr Sharon Mae Lubin

  • Nice.5***** x you.bye

  • Don Ho recorded this song, but no one seems to have it. A duet with Robin Wilson, his protege back then.

  • My favorite TJB song goochman, and indeed rarity. Thanks so much. Lani was the best singer Sergio had and her Sundown Lady recording should be more available!

  • well alrighty then...

  • I agree with epgrove 1961, I never remember this show, never saw him, but these were the first Lp's I purchased Great easy listening, still is current

  • It's "Tijuana", not "Ti-a-juana", Herb!

  • The American pronunciation is "Ti-a-juana" just as Herb said! After all, there weren't even any Hispanic members in TJB.

  • FANTASTICO HERB

  • I was only 8 years old back then but still had an appreciation for Herb Alpert & The Tijuana Brass.

  • Will we ever see another brass band like Herb Alpert & The TJB again? I miss 1960-1985. Great music was made.

  • @epgrove1961 You probably won't, but I hope that you will always appreciate and enjoy REAL music played by REAL musicians. And remember, he was not only performing with his band but also running his record company (A&M Records) at the same time. And one day I look forward to reading his autobiography when he gets the time to do so. It should be great reading. Great music was definitely made from 1960-1985 and I miss it too.

  • The first time I saw Herb Alpert and The TJB was back in 1972 under a tent in the round at The Oakdale Musical Theatre in Wallingford, CT. Fantastic show. I could listen to HA & The TJB all day and all night!

  • Awesome video. Would listen to TJB with my Daddy when I was a little girl. This brings me happy memories...thanks for sharing!

  • Quintessential TJB.

  • First concert I ever went to. I was a little kid but I loved the TJB and my dad got tickets to see them in Pittsburgh around 1967 or 68.

  • I bet most you didn't know that Herb Albert was the "A" in A & M Records. He is rich beyond compare and really didn't need to perform then or now. But his love for the trumpet still keeps him going. HIs is very smooth. Too bad they didn't have real Mexicans in the group. Made up mostly of Italians

  • and I'll bet most of us DID know that!

  • @stubbyguy Not only did we know that Herb was the "A," but that his name is spelled "Alpert" with a "p," not a "b." Do you know who the "M" is, stubbyguy?

  • @stubbyguy Herb was the "A" and Jerry Moss was the "M" in A&M Records. Do you remember the "Whipped Cream & Other Delights' album cover. The model (Delores Erickson) was not covered in whipped cream, believe it or not, it was shaving cream. But either way, it is one of my favorite album covers of all time (I'm old enough to remember when they used to make albums back in the day.)

  • @willardlockejr Hmmm, I didn't know the name of the "Whipped Cream" cover girl. And you're right: shaving cream was used because real whipped cream would melt away too fast under the hot lights while shooting the picture. The only real whipped cream on that cover is on Dolores's right index finger. That's also why they use glue instead of real milk when cereal commercials are filmed.

  • the nofx is good too

  • great in every aspect, deserves even 6 stars!

  • With the Tijuana Brass, Alpert (who is Jewish) used to describe the band as "3 pastramis, 2 bagels, and an American cheese."

    LOL

  • 't Was de eerst LP die ik in handen kreeg op m'n 6de geloof ik. Ik heb 'm nog steeds en iedere keer als ik What now my Love draai -nr.1 kant1- krijg ik weer kippevel.

Wat een sound, wat een timing.

    Herb Alpert for President!

  • What now my love com Tijuana ficou ainda melhor sem desmerecer o G. Becaud grande Alpert!

  • Herb is a bad-ass. Love him. 5*****

  • Herb also used this tune at the conclusion of his second TV special entitled, "The Beat of the Brass".

  • beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeest

  • Does anyone know who is being seated in the crowd at the end?

  • 1965 working in a pool hall, closing up at midnight, putting the jukebox on very loud

and playing What Now My Love back to back to back to back until all tables were clean.

I loved it then, I love it now.

  • My favorite Herb album! Thanks for posting this trip down memory lane

  • I luv this song !! Grew up with the album!!

  • When I was younger, I thought this song was a little "cheesy". It was due to the many artists performing it, all having various degrees of success. But I have to admit, there is a certain timelessness to the Tijuana Brass' version that I REALLY prefer over most of the others. They are that way with many of their other performances, too.

  • Fantastic song Do you have it by Richard Groove Holmes Thanks for sharing KTF

  • Great music appeals to many and stands the test of time. All their music sounds as great today as it did when they originally performed it. Herb Alpert and the TJB are totally a class act.

  • Hey Gooch..me again, what has happened to all this happy good feeling that was the sixties? Herb used to pack venues in coast to coast. Thanks again for sharing this happiness! Lets gather all we can from all this...

  • I thought it was his song, what a player and style! If you know that he did several specials, are they still available in any place?

  • Yes! What an impressive, stylish ending to his special. Thanks goochman for sharing!

  • These specials that Herb did back in the 60s were incredibly well done, tasteful, stylish, creative, and classy. Oh and the music was out of this world. It makes me cry to think that folks don't seem to want to appreciate this level of quality any more. These specials, along with the Burt Bacharach TV specials of the time really need to be released on DVD for future generations. This is our American culture in a time capsule and it needs to be preserved. Incredible video.

  • I completely agree with you Alphabeets.. This is what music is all about, classy, tons of style. I can listen to this all day, everyday!!!

  • i wish i live on those wonderful eras

  • Amen it was wonderful and we don't have a hint of that now....why? miss it.

  • @alphabeets : AMEN,This Music ALWAYS takes me back to great days in my past. But lives on in my MP 3 Player. So I smile every time I put it on.

  • @alphabeets I totally agree with your comments. This is music that should be preserved and passed on to the next generation of future musicians. I remember watching these specials as a young kid and I appreciated the music then, and I truly appreciate it even more today, when you consider the crap that's considered 'music" these days. i hope that someday that these specials will be released on DVD. Herb Alpert is a true class act.

  • @alphabeets About 10 years ago Mr. Alpert made a brief appearance at a jazz festival in Dallas. He only played a couple of numbers, but I was satisfied.

Back in the 70s I also saw Bacharach perform live. You're right...this was

American pop culture at its zenith, and I was privileged to see both of these great

    artists.

  • @alphabeets i'm with you brother, believe me.. i'm with you

  • good stuff

  • Fantastic.

  • One of the greatest world hit ever, composed bay french famous international singer composer Gilbert Becaud, and covered nearly 1200 times in every langauge : Presley, Sinatra, Judy Garland, sammy davis, agnetha falstog (from Abba), Barbra Streisand, shirley Bassey, Andy Williams, . Herb Alpert got two awards with his what now my love cover !!

  • Loved it, thank you...What Now My Love, one of Herb and the TJB's best albums also.

    regards Joe.

  • Ah, another little slice of the pie. Thanks Gooch.
