Ontario - Yours to Discover Autumn 1984

Retro - I am still waiting for that Ontario commercial much like the video of this one but - a woman was the one singing (I think it is the original one) that was played from the spring of 1980 to about 1982 - it also had a longer (quite slower version)

Does anyone have the full version of this? It was about 60 seconds and was two verses. Start at the dawn of a new day Exploring the wide open road. Follow the train where it's leading you, And discover Ontario. You'll see the mist on the water And feel the Sun shining strong. You'll see the smile of a friendly face That says this is where you belong. In Ontario (get up and go) See Ontario (I want you to know) That it's your to discover, and you're gonna love it In Ontario.

Archives Ontario will have all versions of this since it was a government-sponsored advertising campaign. The current provincial tourism marketing people will be strongly against re-releasing it as it will "interfere" with their current campaigns, however I do believe "retro-marketing" could be an extremely powerful and cost-effective strategy for future campaigns, especially with the 35+ year-old generation who remembers seeing these when they were first aired.

I recall there was also a longer version of this commercial with several extra verses.

I remember walking up to Bib Rae and getting his autograph on the back of my Ontario Sports Achievement Award at the annual awards dinner while this kept playing on and on and on in the background. Well this and the other one, the "Ontari-ari-ari-o" one. Both were horrible anthems, but bring back good memories.

If they re-released these to TV - a sort of "retro-marketing" - it would be instant nostalgic emotion for a a whole generation of people who watched these growing up.

Thanks for posting this one Retrontario! I agree with BRUCEBREVITZ that the summer commercial with the woman singing was the most powerful version. I hope it is uncovered and posted some day!

Great ad campaign. I think the BEST of all of them was the summer one where there was a woman singing the theme and a floatplane went roaring right over the camera. Can you post that or is that one missing? AWESOME footage for someone who LIVES to fish Canada.
