  • Thats no shelter that's my old high school ball high xD Why take refuge in a building that's only 3 seconds away form the beach I'll never know

  • they paid us $ 1.89 hour threw the state of texas to clean up the dead bodies !!!!

  • In response to krstn05: The reason that there was little attention after the storm is due to the City Officials. The mayor should have been on tv showing the full devastation rather than saying "we are strong and will be alright". New Orleans kept Katrina in the public eye while Galveston swept it under the carpet. New Orleans wasn't racial, it was an example of rich/poor and incompetence in our leaders (same as Galv). FYI, Ron Paul voted against giving aid to Galveston. Thought that was nice.

  • It helped that New Orleans kept crying for help rather than buckling down and getting to work. Biloxi got hit harder than NO but they didn't sit there moaning for the government to save them, and so they're recovering a lot faster. It's much tougher working in NO than Biloxi because they tend to be much less willing to work themselves and less grateful (yes this is a generalization, but I have numerous examples).I'm headed to Biloxi tomorrow to work and I respect them for showing some strength!

  • I'm from Galveston, not NO but I know people working down there so I'm calling bullshit. Yeah a lot of fucktards are in NO but its ignorant to lump everyone together like that & say the whole town is lazy.

My statement had nothing to do with being lazy, it had to do with fund-raising. You need money to rebuild!

CNN report on Mardi Gras this year:

"The town of New Orleans put on a brave face with a great parade while still recovering from Katrina." Not one fucking mention of Galveston or Ike.

  • Dude, I've worked in NO, Biloxi, and Port Arthur/Bridge City, and I've talked to leaders of lots of groups who have been helping in those areas. At least 3 of every 4 volunteers I've talked to would rather work in Biloxi because of the difference in mentality. I specifically said it was a generalization and didn't mean everyone.

I just drove thru Galveston yesterday, and it's disgusting how little attention Ike got after what it did to that area.

  • True that hop. I agree with you. I would prefer working outside of NO as well. Gratz to you for helping out there man.

Galveston is still in terrible shape. The people have done what they could to get it back but now they need some money bad. Rick Perry is too busy seceding from the union to help out.

Sorry if our debate got a little heated, youtube is good for that ;-)

  • Haha, it sure is :P

It can also (theoretically) be a great way to make people aware of how much help Galveston needs.

I know personally I don't have money to help out in that way; all a lot of ppl can do is head down there for a few days and help do whatever they can.

Good luck to you and Galveston. I pray the hurricane gods spare you guys this season!

  • It's alright. We're Texans! I have a house in Treasure Island (bay side) in the San Luis Pass. Though I work very hard for a living, I'm proud to say that I did not get any FEMA money. I did not even care to ask. Somebody else can use it....that's Texas!

  • It doesn't help that George W. Bush is from Texas and the mainstream media hates Bush and therefore hates Texas. We saw the same thing after Rita. 4 yrs later, they are still talking about Katrina, and you'd think Rita never happened if you look at the national media outside of SE Texas/SW Louisiana.

  • ..and by the way, you're right. The city officials were slugish on the job.

  • Shame on Obama Hussein for not helping this island. Oh wait....dead white people. He's ok with that. Never mind.

  • Are you retarded?

  • Gritselenawhore. U are programmed to be a puppet. U think voting for a muslim melatin monger of hatred of white people is an answer to buffy making fun of u one day in school. U feel contrite of Jesus helps u reaffirm your Brittny Aguilara mantra. Vote as u will, to send troops to Afghanistan to die as u decide on which eyeliner to wear evil 1.

  • krstn05.. Thank you sooooo much for saying this. This is soo true, but you know what we dont need them if they dont wanna help us. Galveston is a city of strong, strong people. We are going to rebuild it to what it once was. We are made Texas Strong

  • 0:28 thats Ball High school

  • In answer to Cyrax 4D4: Murdoch's, 61st street Galveston Fishing pier and The Balinese Room are all gone. Completely. The Flagship has major damage, lost a large portion of the drive and the west wall exposing the rooms to the outside. The word is not out yet if it will be restored. It is truly devastating what has happened here, but we will pull through. We are after all Texans!

  • This is why I get so PO'ed at the press. Let's downplay Ike damage because Wall Street is in trouble. Economic woes were forcast starting at least a year ago Grrrr. I guess you don't get press unless you whine relentlessly. So we are "SOL" because we don't moan enough.

After talking with people from other parts of the US, and even overseas, they are under the impression that this storm caused little damage!

  • Seems to me the same people that they had to bus to Houston from New Orleans are the same ones that wouldn't leave for Ike...Gub'ment money sure is fine!

  • what about flagship

  • is murdochs still around? what about the fishing pier infront of casa del mar?

  • So where is Oprah and all the folks who screamed racism was the reason for the NewOrleans mess? Where are all the fundraisers to to help this state? The people of Texas are devastated just as bad- even worse given most are not on the government dole, and the silence by the very people who blamed the aftermath on 'white' government is deafening. Isn't is obvious, depending on where you live, (e.g, tornado alley or hurricane and flood country) is more to "blame" than any faction of government?

  • Too true Krstn05. No real outside help from people outside of Texas, yet Houstonians and Galvestonian will rebuild. No crybabies here, just devasted, hard working individuals. GOD BLESS!

  • MOST of Galivestion faired WELL yeah right! Crystal Beach and Boliver are nearly gone the west end got raped hardcor AND may of the landmark and historical peers on the island are gone. Not to mention Gal. Bay I live and work(ed) in kemah (boardwalk) me and many others no longer have jobs! some of our citys main tourist actractioins are gone! Yeah Ike was nothing MY BUTT!!!

  • AND I HAVE NO POWER. and the bugs oh my god the bugs.

  • im from texas and i expirenced Ike it was really scary and my house got alot of damage

    =(

  • Ay yi yi...The Island got whacked, but they didn't show Bolivar. It looks like an atom bomb test site!

  • this is awful...=[ i shouldve toured the city before, now it's mostly destroyed.

  • I feel bad I had a great aunt who lived in galveston.....and a friend of my husbands lived on crystal beach growing up and he is a little upset....The whole thing is devestating...

  • thats mah city =[ ..i wanna go home...

  • Im sorry for everyone loss in Galveston and being from Houston I know Galveston..But i guess a question that should be asked is what bozo zoning commission OK'd timber housing in a Hurrican prone area. ALL those house that have to be rebuilt should be built of concrete to with stand 150mph winds. then they wouldnt have to lose everything AGAIN.

  • Ike is so cheap. All you need to do to is hit your opponent 3 times with his sword and they die. He can kill jigglypuff at 10% with a full charged smash not kidding.

  • Everything is bigger in Texas, even hurricanes.

  • Watch "Together We Stand 2"

  • Even in pittsburgh PA, hurrican ike took down many trees. like the one at my neighbor's house hit his deck.

    Tree Meets Deck

    watch?v=O5-ejttjD1s

  • I hate ike.

  • All the way to Buffalo NY Ike jacked shit up bad haha.

  • Thats really bad, makes me feel sorry for all that damage.

  • sarah millers a man!

  • What about all the prisoners they left in cages with water filling them? That is inhumane!!!

  • what about them?

  • ummm who cares...well i dont but they moved them to other cages in austin san anton...

  • To any who think of going back to anywhere south of Dallas, TAKE Supplies. Take gas, water and food.

We will get back on our feet sooner than you think. Texans are quick to make do and work hard. That is why our great state is so great!!

  • i am in the ms (katrina area) waiting to see if the insurance companies fights to say "which came first the water or the fire" good luck you guys!!!!

  • I had a good time partying in the historic Balinese when I lived in Galveston. The Balinese is no more.

  • My heart broke this morning when I saw on CNN that The Balinese Room was completely washed away. I lived on Galveston from 1971-73 when I was a kid. My mom was a waitres at the Balinese and my Pop liked to drink and party there. It's sad to see such an historic landmark that was recently restored with so much of the original ball room decor from it's hayday as a dance hall/ gambling joint/ speakeasy, just get washed away. I regret never going back to visit my old home on Galveston and I'm sad.

  • good deja vu

  • Texas Got Owned

  • your an idiot
