  • Vocals are weak....sorry

  • they ruined the music

  • The original is way better... I always prefer Tears 4 fears over any other person who sings this song but srsly... This version is trash...

  • i'm a metalhead but this song is FANTASTIC!!!!!

  • Nigdy na koncert do Francji-tam jest cisza "jak makiem zasiał" Jak to francuzy-zawsze z boku.My Polacy pamiętamy...

  • This song is epic

  • Thats such a relaxing song.very nice.smooth

  • I wish TFF didn't have to sing this so much like Gary Jules. I believe they should have kept the same beat and tempo as their original version. It was a popular song before Gary Jules made a cover of it, so I don't see why they had to go and change it. I love the original and the only thing I really LIKE about Gary Jules' cover is the first 7 seconds when it is only the piano playing. I know many would disagree with me, but I am entitled to my own opinion. So please, do keep that in mind :)

  • this version(slow) much more better than original

  • Man, this is bad...everytime the song gets higher the singer is totally lost. This is a bad reddition of the wonderful sad nevrotic song that remembers me some nightmares and that song shouldn't be sung as badly as it is here. The worst part is the guy singing it so badly is the guy that has the genius mind to write it... Mad world indeed!

  • Their own original version is SO much better than this liveperformence..

  • There are some rather confusing posts that sound as though people think Roland and Curt are covering this song. Hell, they wrote it and first performed it before any of you were born. Check your facts before you post. And since it's their song, they can perform it any way they please. I love any and everything TFF does. They're amazing. This music was around long before "Donnie Darko" or Gary Jules. I could say something about "Darko" and Jules, but I won't!

  • 6 people must die!

who don´t likes this song or/and this vid is stupid!!!!

  • @shampayne69.. Daaah. The song's from 1982. But the way TTF performed it then is completely different. A poser named Gary Jules made it into "Sad World" around ten years ago, and here's TTF in 2005 performing it just the way Jules did when he raped it. Pathetic.

  • sad world

  • Roland is the class act of class acts.. Truly amazing person..

  • @eatandtravel A little prejudice, don't you think? Reminds me of some other ignorant adult who thought kids just care about how nice their shoes are.

  • Quite sad, to see them reduced to covering Gary Jules, after he made a mess of what they were a quarter century ago.

  • @arsoys They made this song....

  • Comment removed

  • @gilbertisbeast Exactly my point. Except that was a long time ago. Here they're covering Jules.

  • @arsoys

Who is this guy, Gary Jules? Seriously, I never heard of him (Laurent - Paris - France).

  • dude? huh covering who?

  • funny how a little change messes with your heads. great song. great rendition.

    t

  • The original version is much better. Where can I find a good recording of it from these days ?

  • Looks like they acknowledge the cover to be so good as to adopt a similar approach to it themselves. This is similar to Bob Dylan playing All along the watchtower in Jimi Hendrix's way.

  • UNICI E INSUPERABILI

  • hmm why would they choose to take what was their first hit, a new wave/dance song from 1982, and make it sound like that awful gary jules version? the instrumentation on this is alot better than just a piano and acoustic guitar, but still....why? at least make it the same tempo as the original version.

  • @aaronp01 They didn't "make" it sound like Gary Jules. This performance if it was in 2005 like it says, it was done before Jules even made his version. This is probably the version he got more inspiration off of.

  • @BradMLayZ umm The Gary Jules version came out in 2001.

  • @BradMLayZ just to add to what druidlord57 said, the Gary Jules cover of Mad World was made famous by the cult classic Donnie Darko, which featured the original version of Head Over Heels and helped revive TFF songs for a newer generation. The single for Jules' Mad World was released in 2003 after its inclusion in the soundtrack. Therefore this performance was a nod to that arrangement and also the successful reunion and touring of TFF, I would imagine.

  • What bothers me is that they changed the tone of THEIR song so Ppl who aren't too familiar with them can say "Oh it's that song from that movie!" They're singing a cover of a cover of THEIR song!!

  • @grubio83 people do many things for money.for firsts they didnt write song so they can sing it for them selfs.they wrote it to sell it .there is no bad or good marketing.

when you hear original one.its somehow joyful.but when you hear Gary's version.its so dark.i mean like jumping out the window dark.the point is both versions have filings.that's why they touch us.only some people dont like depressive songs that tell you that we "are going nowhere" and that people are looking through each other

  • je préfère la version de Gary Jules.....

  • Roland is a genius. This new musical arrangement. is stunning from the intro on.

I love the Michael Andrews/Gary Jules slow arrangement also, But this musically touches me, but Curt has sounded better than here. Not his best.

  • very very good

  • @raoulandtheking song is allready their.you fuckin idiot.this song is from 1982.

gary jules's version is good too.but when tears for fears write this song gary jules was playing on the street with other kids.

  • I had put away TFF for years and had been preoccuppied with current bands and young singers...but now I'm hook again since their comeback! All I've been listening and watching to are their CDs and videos.

They are like fine wine, keeps getting better with age (that sounded like a pick-up line at a beer joint) But really, they are fabulous and gorgeous as ever.

  • @ibelieveintomorrow,

Yes, This is the real one, like "Shout" and "everybody wants to rule the world" great one in 80' and also the best ..now ;)

  • Curt should have sung this in its original version when he first wrote it. Unfortunately, he trying to sing this classic like Gary Jules is not good. Curt was just too pitchy.

If he would have sung it in his original version, that would have totally rocked.

  • I love the original version, i love adam lambert and gary jules version too. And i fucking love this version cuz it rocks!

  • gary jules version! beautiful

  • they don't play it the same way they used because people don't like the way 80's music sounds anymore, well i do but alot of people wouldn't prefer that way. they like black people saying a total of 8 words in a song over and over : ) we like her and we like her too we like her and we like her too and wee lik herrr and we like her tooo.......

  • VshuFFle, TFF performed the song this way cos they choose to. Not cos people didn't or don't like the 80's music sounds anymore. That had nothing to do with it. I saw them last month and during their tour this summer they performed Mad World the original ver. It was smashin' and just the best. Both voices were strong and solid. Most stood during the concert. 3 standing O's 1 on org Mad ver, 2 on Billie & 3 on Memories org ver. AND Wht do u mean by the blk 8 words thing? Makes NO sense!!!

  • The Tears for Fears now sing this song as Gary Jules does....why they don't sing the song as they did 25 years ago?

Maybe the movie Donnie Darko has flashed them too ^_^

  • I love adam's version, but the original has it's own unique feel to it ^^ Love it!

  • I love the whole entire part at the beginning with Roland not understanding what Curt's saying then the two of them actually laughing together. And the instrumental part where it sounds like an orchestra is beautiful! I think this is my fave live version of this song :D

  • It is melancholy and develops a nice groove at the same time. I wish the drummer would put in some funkier fills as it builds, but it still is a burnin' little groove. :)

  • why didn't he do his original version? :( he did it slower than the original. the many people loving gary jules's version and adam lambert's cover changed him. x___x

  • lol

  • I knew Adam Lambert was not the original to do this great song in this version. Tears for Fears is still one of my best favorites!!!

  • @avhh357 Adam, who got way more credit than he deserved, was a baby when this song was released. :(

  • Comment removed

  • lol you're retarded

  • Adam did his own version, but the original is always the best. i put it down to you being young (?) - so you dont know the original and the best

  • Dude, taste changes throughout your life, ALOT, infact I'm quite sure that your tastes will be almost completly diferent in 6 years, even more so in 10, so yes age is a factor in taste that and amount of knowlodge

but you are entitled to your opinion, if you think it sucks it does, to you. Just avoid comments like that, really it serves no purpose

For example i could say that you should stop playing that crap game since it will rot your brains off, but that would be insensible wouldnt it?

  • idiot

  • wow!

  • Thank you Curt and Roland!

The Hurting is still such an amazing album.

  • @okrawinfrey

Yep, the Hurting was one of the best albums. Kids don't even know what an album is today. Man, I'm old.

  • its an old but a DAMN good song

  • a good song have age.

  • I couldn't agree with Barker more. goosebumps indeed. amazing performance. i wish they could get back together. i started listening to The Hurting not even a year ago and that album is amazing and has done alot for me emotionally. I think this is a great remix that one up'd Gary Jules's cover (which was also great). And like what Juggalonumber27 said, it depends on my mood. TFF versions and Mr Jules' version are all amazing in its own way.

  • Absolutely amazing! Goosepumps!

    Best intro ever heard!

  • listened to Adam Lambert's version and this one. Adam's is better - without the band. Might be even better with the band. The guy's a star. For those of you that think the original is always better - all I can say - deal with it!

  • Comment removed

  • al94930 Have you even heard Gary Jules version? Sorry buts Adams version is good but is too girly. Gary's version version gives me chills. Tears for Fears version live is just flat out awesome. Adam is bringing number 3.

  • Comment removed

  • good but Adam's better - but like assholes and opinions - everyone has one

  • @al94930

Not fair for comporate young guy voice with old guy voice ? Adam Lambert is just 27year old but leader of this band, Curt Smith is 48year old !

and again, this is live. they sing so much songs in time & when he sing this song, he just tired of course !

original version is always is true music, they can compose their music & sing their own !

anyway Adam version is really great & i love it too :))

  • @al94930

    1) Its original version & all people remember original. If havent songwriten how can Adam or someone can sing cover it ? Original ver is still great in all the way !

    2) its live, they sing so much song for a time & now they tired that why his voice not best but the sound still great !

    3) how can u said its deal, how can its bad ? (I like Adam but dont make me laugh when u say Adam is the best & this band is shit)

    4) they has the way sing their own like they always do

  • I hate to make the analogy between Dylan and most of the people who interpreted his songs - but The Byrds, Baez, and many others covered his great songs better than he did. It's not an insult to say that a great song writer was able to write a song that great artists performed better than he did.

  • what a great video, thanks so much for posting this!! great to see the lads havin' a laugh, they've been friends since they were 12!!!

  • man these were the good ole days!

  • Now I want to remember my Fathers Birthday. A child in him always.

  • This version is FABULOUS!!! Adam Lambert should have added some electric guitar...WOW!!! I can't believe I never knew this song 'til now...where was I in '82???

  • My daughter ought to listen to this song she might see things in a different light even though the first song was better this one still hits the message

    HAPPY B-DAY EMMA MY GRAN-DAUGHTER

  • TFF are one of my favourite bands.. however the distinctive synth 'klonk' sound that featured heavily in their ORIGINAL version, is what gave the song its distinctive edge ... This 'acoustic' version is lacking because of it.... still good though .. but not amazing.

  • I, personally, don't think you can even compare the Gary Jules and TFF versions of this song. They're two completely different versions of the same song. I love both versions, it just depends on what kind of mood I'm in.

i DO think that the Gary Jules version is a little more powerful than the original though, but that's not a dis on TFF. Gary must love Tears to do the song such justice.

  • I still like Gary Jules version better

  • Well this is the original,so deal with it.

  • omg calm down i was just saying my opinnion,

  • i love TFF this song is my favourite!

  • Why would they want to sing it the way Gary Jules sang it when they can sing it the way that Roland wrote it?

  • Excellent question CelesteK. As a huge TFF fan, I feel the same way you do. I prefer the faster original upbeat version (TFF did). It's more eery and just better sounding in every way.

  • Oh yes. The younger generation seems to think that the Gary Jules version of this song is better. But those of us who grew up in the 80s know that Tears made this song popular in 1982. :)

  • Exactly! (I realize that's a very American expression). :)

But those of us -- who were there -- in the fabulous 80's, know TFF kicks butt on this song, b-i-g time!

  • You're damned straight. :)

  • This is just an awesóme version! I like the beginning instrumental part. Can smebody tell me, where i can get this version ?

  • What did Roland say??? Sorry, I do not not understand French...

  • Roland said "Good evening I'm afraid I don't speak french. I'm stupid. This song you may know from our first album The Hurting."

  • Oh,That's it...Thanks ;)

  • Roland was just translating what Curt was saying to the audience.

  • Do you swear??? L.O.R.L I didn't notice!!!

    =)

  • Would I lie? Curt was speaking and Roland was translating what Curt was saying for the audience.

  • I know, I was just joking!!! XD It's just that I hadn't noticed that he was translating what Curt was saying!!! =)

  • Yeah. Isn't convenient that Roland speaks 4 different languages and can translate what Curt is saying to each audience that TFF encounters?

  • Because Curt doesn't speak any french at all and the audience probably doesn't speak any english.

  • Yes, that's it. But I wonder...How does Curt feel about it? L.O.L. Doesn't he feel a little bit embarassed?

  • He said he was embarrassed to admit that he couldn't speak any french when someone asked him at his site but Diva said "I love cheese" in french. :)

  • GOSH. L.O.L =D

  • So Diva is probably learning french at school.

  • Yeah, probably. =)

  • Roland speaks french really well!

  • He can speak French and Spanish fluently. He has some French-Spanish roots as well.

  • That's his father. His father is from Paris but he also has Basque Spanish.

  • lol!! I have a pair of nice jeans ;-)

  • the funny thing is that he translate from English into English ;-)

  • pure magic moment !!!! thanks for all!!

  • pure magic moment yeah..very nice!!

  • pure magic moment !!!! thanks for all!!

  • Wow... that intro, background music sends shivers down my spine... soo smoothe....

  • sorry to pipe in with a comment about looks, but I have been a Roland-addict for quite awhile now.seems i've just realized that Curt has aged very, very well.Wow,what a good looking man, and he also seems very down to earth and accessible(spelling)I was surprised to find that he has a MySpace page and communicates with fans. What a guy!!

  • Fabulous Song and fabulous band

Reminds me of the great 80s and my youth . TFFs you were and STILL are excellent, thank you for your lovely music

  • oh yeah Tears for Fears all the way I hope they stay together for a long time

  • This shows such a great progression of this band. I love this version.

  • This is the best version of this song. Although Curt was not at his best. He was sharp in a lot of places and he just looked like he was having trouble getting the lyrics out. That's a live show for ya.

  • He has a helicopter made of cheese. That is made of pure win... and lots of bricks

  • I love the live versions best. They aren't as fast as the studio version, sort of in between the studio and Gary Jules version.

Oooh, he is going sharp in places....not very smooth at all, like this song should be.

  • Eh, I love this song. The instrumentals in this version are very good, but eh, the singer, I don't like how he spits out the words. I just don't like the singers style and vocals.

  • This is actually a really good version. I think the lead singer was having trouble hearing his monitors -- thus, going sharp in inappropriate times.

  • that's the magic of live gigs. Something different from the original

  • I love this song. tears for fears rocks

  • That looks like a memorable time.

  • Great! I wish that I could have been there. It is amazing!

  • funny to see that's their not playing it the way they wrote it at the beginning, but more the way gary jules and michael andrews covered it :)

  • yeah, they admitted they liked the other guys version more, so now they kinda changed it themselves to.

  • Not true, there is no proof of such admission. They just said they liked Jules' version but never compared it to their original, they didn't want MW to sound too 80's these days, it is a coincidence and not a raison d'etre that they downtempoed it.

  • big coincidence...

    but anyway, love it :)

  • Enooooooooooooooorme !

This is the fifth time I'm watching in a row. Still not statisfied !

  • Holy crap.

    This is simply amazing.
