Any exercise under load or naked (unloaded) can be dangerous. When done properly the windmill is a great example of thoracic/hip extension, shoulder mobilization and stabilization. However, the prerequisite of hip and shoulder mobility must be present. If you're an experienced lifter the hip extension portion is a varied example of a dead-lift. The shoulder portion is a varied example of a shoulder press. If you have adequate thoracic extension, shoulder and hip mobility this exercise should be
The movement itself with the appropriate weight would not hurt the average persons back. it would strengthen the bodies ability to work as a chain and increase mobility. Also, I do not recommend adjustable kettlebells. Ask a local instructor to help you determine the right weight. Once the beginning weight is chosen, hard style, soft style, girevoy etc can keep you busy for months on end with the original bell. If you need variety, buy a used bell every 60 days to match a set or go up in wt.
When I saw the title I thought he was going to do one with a single 96kg bell overhead, then I saw the 3 and thought he was going to hold them in one hand. Still, this is pretty impressive.
i hate him...i can't do this with a fucking 24 kg bell ,because i am stiff like a german oak...and this monster lifts this up as if it is a half chicken...
Certainly a strong guy, however that excercise looks like it could be potentially bad news for the lower back..i screwed mine up last year deadlifting, resulting in a discectomy op and now wince when i see moves like this one...be careful out there!!
@IAMNEILFACE its actaully noy bad, because when you are lowering down with the weight, everything stays in line. thats whyb he is looking at the kettlebell that he is lifting up, to make sure the alignment stays straight. it also helps with weight distribution.
You don't need a set, all you need is one. Don't let cost hold you back from allowing kettlebells to change your whole life. If you buy a single KB in size that is appropriate for you, you will not outgrow it for at least a year.
@h4x0lZzz Thanks for constructive criticism, do you kiss your mom goodnight with that mouth? BTW its not BS, MOST people who buy KB's start with one, and use it for a long time before buying another, or a set. You may not be able to do ALL possible exercises with a single KB of the right weight but you CAN do more specific moves than you can squeeze into a week's worth of unique workouts, so if that isn't enough variety for you, then perhaps you should join a Yoga class.
@karstenhain I do not kiss her mouth :). BS= Buttsex? You are kind of right, but my experience is, that even though you have a 12 -16 kb for the beginning you progress very fast to 20kg c&p for example. After a year I progressed from 16kg to 32 kg clean and press. Just for a simple example. I am still using the 24 kg for snatch and swing.
@karstenhain how can you tell what type is good for you . i tryed kettle bells a few time and liked it and i started with about 30 lbs and it seamed pretty easy.. what particular excerscise can you use to determine the weight you need. if there is such a move?
@asesino1 I concur. You don't need a whole set or need to spend a lot of money. Just get one good adjustable Kettlebell and it will last a while. Three I recommend are: 1. Iron Woody Standard KettleGrip, 2. US Kettlebell small, 3. KettleStack - in that order. You'll love these handheld-gyms once you have one!
Amazing, I almost dislocated my back while watching this :D

I fail to see the functional benefits of this exercise, twisting the spine under load while effectively doing a single arm deadlift?
I agree with most kettle bell exercise but that is just dangerous
