This is a GREAT song!!! last time I searched for weekend warriors tracks nothing came up, so "thanks for posting"...notice on this song you can hear "syn-drums" (or simmons?) early synth/percussion pads, mostly shunned by hard rock bands of the time and usually only showed up once new wave bands started using them.
If Teds music have come out ten or fifteen years earlier he would be the supreme ruler of the planet and any territory disputes would be settled by a "ultimate guitar rock-off " against him,.....which he would NEVER EVER NEVER LOOSE!!!!........yeah i could live in that world.
The intro had an influence on me. I wrote something on guitar that was nearly identical to it. I thought it sounded too cool. Same with "Paralyzed" from SOS - I copied that one too.
I have this original album on vinyl that I bought back in 1978. Although it still plays pretty good it is quite badly scratched. I also have it on 8-track. I transfered the 8 track onto audio cassette and it sounds terrific. Someday soon when I get my Ion USB turntable I'll transfer the cassette onto CD. Unfortunately the manufactured CD is out of print. I also have two his best Amboy Dukes tunes on the Rhino box set called Nuggets.
I can't find smokescreen ANYWHERE on youtube! Someone should post it because so many people on here say it's an awsome song, and I would like to hear it!
just went to a Nuge concert in vegas and let me tell you, he is still amazing at 61 years old. ted will deffenently go down in history as one of the best EVER. not to mention his political views are AWSOME =)
One of the best Nugent albums...the best without Derke for sure. Had LOT of great songs. Charlie Huhn took over on vocals for this record. I bought it when it came out....we used to party to this album...especially this cool track.
Venom Soup is an oft overlooked classic. It is truly awesome, the most frightening intro Ted ever crafted. Superlative guitar playing; rarely has any rock guitar player attained such heights of subtle melodic aggression. In my humble Limey opinion.
The rest of Weekend Warriors album also, stands as a benchmark to which all rock guitar players should aspire
Man, I bet that was a legendary show...I love all those band and the releases that you mentioned....A dream rock show... I bet it was beyond awesome!!!
@GreenBayLA How about this for a line up -- Scorpions, AC/DC (with Bon Scott), Thin Lizzy (with Phil Lynott) , Journey, Aerosmith, and headlining, Ted Nugent? Sound impossible? It happened -- 1979 World Series of Rock in old Cleveland Municipal Stadium, Cleveland, Ohio. Scorpions was a last minute addition that apparently agreed to play for free. (No one knew them.) It started at 9:30am and lasted until 7:15pm. Sheer insanity ... and this 16 yr old kid at the time loved every minute of it!
@holidayshen Great lineup, I read about it in Circus magazine, back in the day... It was last show in '70s w Joe Perry. He quit after backstage fight between his wife and Tom Hamilton's wife. d r u g s
Teds My guitar hero but his singing isnt as appealing to me as Derek St Holmes vocal input. Uncle Ted and St. Holmes were a grusome 2sum. Ted Shreads and Derek Has a great voice. This stuff is the reason I play guitar. Thanks for posting!! Brings back memorys. I bought this album for $7 coinsidentally the very same day Elvis Died. It just came out and I couldnt wait to steal enough returnable pop bottles to buy it! haha
Does anybody on You Tube have Call Of The Wild by Ted Nugent and The Amboy Dukes 1973? My favorite of his. But the Communist Fags on You Tube have no fuckin variety video's Anymore. They have shut them all down and removed all the only Good stuff.
Right on bloodbrother! I've got the remastered Scream Dream CD coming in the mail lol! I have all 70's n 80's Nuge on LPs but I'm getting em all back on CDs now. Happy birthday Nuge, the fittest 60 years young rock n roller alive!

I personally don't hear any slowing up and down in this recording. I owned this on 8-Track back in the day too. This remains a personal fave.
Underrated record IMO.

Great album track, spooky.
Best Triple bill I ever saw was in 1980:
opener Def Leppard - On Through The Night
2nd Scorpions - Animal Magnetism
Headliner Ted Nugent - Weekend Warriors
I had all 3 albums and loved it!
