  • feel season !

  • I can't believe that was actually Rodger Swan! ='( R.I.P!! <3

  • Nice video of the Hanami! :D

I saw you there, but didn't get a chance to say hi. Maybe some other time. :)

  • one of the best videos I 've watched , Hiko san! I often give up things, thinking the world is just 無常 or 浮世. But you're right. We should try to enjoy and cherish every day, every moment just because thing will never be the same. I guess yours is the right notion of 無常.

  • Sweet! All thumbs up!

  • I;m glad you put Rodger in the video. <3

  • nice effects Hikosaemon!

  • Wonderful video! Keep up the amazing work!

  • @hayatotheninja Thank you :)

  • Got chills! Excellent video! Nice of you to feature Rodger too. Nice use of audio-less video I must say! ^_^

  • @mostawesomestjes Haha, it is hard to imagine how this would have turned out if I had actually turned the external mic power on... :)

It's nice to try something new every now and then, glad you liked it.

    Peace!

  • This is fantastic video! I love it!

  • @littleyuku Cheers!

    Peace

  • did I miss something? Damn your videos are all well polished these days.

  • @Radrey That's very nice of you to say sir - for me, each vid is an exercise in building on what I learned in the last. I make a point of experimenting and using some kind of new technique or approach each time.

How is the shooting for your film going - when will we be able to see it?!

  • @Hikosaemon uggh its a never ending battle at this point. It should be finished here soon after school lets out this month. I seem to getting the same problem systemjap had with leo bangs episode 9 for a while. I get all this anxiety, even when I think about editing it.

I let everyone know how everybody can see it when its done. I sound like kubrick now.. The film will be finished, when its finished. ughh.

    keep up the good vids.

  • @nathy85 Ha, you couldn't have left me a better comment. I love that even in a crazy city like Tokyo, people still pause to enjoy families and ponder life.

    Peace

  • Rodger Swane

    Peace

  • Well done. Very nicely edited.

  • @popularzero Thank you - it was a real learning exercise for me making this so it is nice to know you enjoyed it.

    Peace

  • @thatjapanesegirl TJG!!! Thanks, I'm really glad you liked it :)

  • sugoi-ne

  • @ccr1965 arigatou! m(_'_)m

  • Ah you still managed to turn out a great video mate, nice to see the footage didn't go to waste : )

  • @MicknFumi Maaate - I've been learning lately that the bits you usually toss away can actually end up being the best parts if you play around with them a bit. It's great fun learning and editing at the same time :)

  • @Hikosaemon Yeah & vids you think will gets lots of views get little, the ones you think aren't special get lots haha.....but anyway, yeah your editing is pretty bloody good man. I was really impressed with the colour changing t-shirt one haha. I need to start looking into the transitions & effects panels of Powerdirector. I might even make an intro today, Fumi managed to find a program that converts the weird format her camera records in, to mpg. She has a great little piece of video : D

  • Well done. Very artistic!

  • @edtomorrow Hey man, I appreciate this comment, but even more, I am loving following your progress through all my old vids through the comments you are leaving. I'm really flattered, and it is nice because you are taking me back to those vids as well. I kinda half want to apologize, and really thank you for being so patient - I'd love to hear your thoughts when you make it through everything :)

    Cheers mate!

    Peace

  • Very beautiful Sakura viewing philosophy.

  • @109mytiger :) Thanks - that's what hanami is all about - it's nice to do something different like this once in a while.

    Peace

  • OOOOO COOL!

  • @AntoneX6 Hehe, :)

  • Nice!

  • @psychomelody Cheers mate - I'm looking forward to more of your vids too man!

  • Gorgeous Vid!!!!

  • @DannySouless :-)

  • That was a beautiful video!

  • @systemjap Haha, I feel the same way about your Leo Bangs bloopers reel :)

  • Good short video talking about hanami. Sasuga Hiko-san.

  • @yuichituba cheers mate! How's Scotland treating you?

  • @Hikosaemon Oh man.....so many good beers and whiskies. I just got 2 very rare scotches that you only can get at this one store. It's sooo good!

  • Dude, nice save! This came out even better without the original audio. Excellent use of the filter too!

  • @MrJingjong Haha, I can hardly imagine how different this vid would have turned out if I had remembered to turn on the power switch on the external mic mounted on my camera at the hanami....

  • Amazing yet again :)

  • @otakudan78 Cheers mate! I'm loving your vids too by the way - keep them coming :)

  • Awesome Poem! I loved it!

  • @K1kuch1 cheers man!

  • Very cool video. *favorited

  • @scienceman83 hehe, awesomeness :)

  • .SUGOI!!!!!!! ^_^ SASUGA HIKOSAEMON

By far you're my favorite youtuber in Japan very humble in your videos and always sharing these special times you spend in Japan with your subscribers.

    God bless.

  • @UzumakiMatrix wow, that's a very humbling compliment. Thank you, it's always my pleasure :)

  • ahh well worth refreshing my youtube page :)

    Thank you for sharing!

    Cheers*

  • @Nekkoart Glad you made it :) - and sorry I took so long from the tweet - your refresh button finger must have gotten tired... :)

  • Beautifully done, mate.

I am always amazed that our town maintains hundreds of sakura trees for 51 weeks of the year.. cutting and pruning them.. while they just look like boring sticks.. so that we can enjoy them for just one week a year!

    So Japanese..

  • @TheJapanChannelDcom I used to (and to some extent still do) have the same thinking as you. However, I can't help but respect the fact that even when I ask Japanese people whether they wouldn't be happier having greener cities all year round, I always get an unwavering "no, we wouldn't have this any other way" - and when they have some cherry blossoms to point to, it's hard to argue :)

The hanami itself is a fantastic little piece of the culture, I think.

    Cheers mate

    Peace

  • @Hikosaemon

    yes...

maybe I should have said "pleasantly surprised" or "very happy that..."

I really should take more time composing my comments... they seem to be so often misinterpreted...

  • @TheJapanChannelDcom Mate, I didn't read anything negative at all in your comment, and to be honest, I think the same way. The fact they take so much time and care just for that short week of enjoyment is something to behold and admire :D

  • @Hikosaemon

    I know, cobber.

That is why I dug your video so much.

(Why is it we never sleep when we live in this country????)

  • great video ~ nice of you to add roger in too

hanami ~ time to enjoy the fleeting beauty of life with friends and loved ones.... and people you've never met from youtube! lol wish i could've been there to see it in person. grateful to all the j-tubers who have been sharing their footage with the rest of the world~

  • @kmah88 My first intro to the community here was through Rodger's 2008 video, and I think we felt his presence in spirit at this year's event. Hanami is a great contemplative bit of culture Japan has. Indeed, it constantly amazes me how youtube links complete strangers thousands of miles apart who have never met as friends and inspriations :) The YT hanami is always a great focal point for that kind of positive interaction. Maybe you will make it in person one year ^u^

  • Excellent. You captured the 心 of 花見 !!

  • @saiyouken Cheers man, it was great to meet you and your boy there, even if only briefly!

  • Great video!

    Peace

  • That was good, Hiko. Good.

    Thanks for posting this.

  • @Gimmeaflakeman cheers mate!

  • Inspired use of soundtrack. Loved it.

  • @acromel Like the video, the music was the result of disaster, frustration and inspiration. This is the first time I ever picked up a track from ccMixter after scouring Jamendo and Wacca for hours without finding something I liked. I wasn't thinking a taiko track at first, but when I tried it on for size, it all fell into place :)

  • The video was really enjoyable. The poem was very deep and neat. Thanks for the video.

  • @MrBigall My absolute pleasure, thank you :)

  • like the coulor palet, the negatives workd really well.cant wait for my gurl to get home and share this with her.... really great explantion of why Hanami is so important. DEEP!

  • @BlkUnk Hey man, I'm really glad you liked it. Your vids were some of the inspiration that went into this.

Taking this approach was the result of a number of small disasters that occurred with the filming process, but it is funny how disasters can prompt you to take new directions that open up new possibilities...

    Cheers mate!

  • I thought that looked like Rodger, too. Poignant.

Thank-you for this video - it's inspiring and beautiful at the same time. Hanami season has begun to mean something to me since studying Japanese language and culture. Now, after seeing this it means a little more.

  • @kaapiovuohi glad you liked it. The traditional hanami is to sit below the trees sipping sake, contemplating the meaning of life - I thought I would try to capture a bit of that. Cheers!

  • Was That Rodger a 1:13? God I miss his videos. Thanks for the upload <3

  • @dondons1987 Yep - I don't think it was brought up directly at the hanami but a lot of us there were thinking of him during the event. I first connected to the j-community through rodger's 2008 hanami vid, and so it seemed right to include him.

His family are still running his site and were very nice about giving permission for the clip.

    Glad you liked it!

    Peace
