Did your D2 Para come very tight. Mine arrived tight with quite a tight compression lock. It actually hurts the tip of my index finger to hold the compression lock down.
1:35, newer Millies have skeletonized teardrop shaped liners on both sides. Silky smooth and everything on them is perfect. The jimping is finer than original millies too.
Just wondering if anyone else has noticed the lanyard ring is a bit loose, if i shake my knife you can hear it tinging away from side to side, is this normal? the screws around it feel tight as well, mabe a bit of loctite perhaps.
It's almost as resistant as s30v or 154cm, not a big difference. If you're worried, put a thin coat of oil on it every month or so. When you buy the knife it comes with an info card saying they coated it with some grease or something just in case.
got 2 of this D2, for my daily patrol, roadblocks, and off-road duties. D2 is great for tough field use. S30V is best for city use. D2 with very thin oil coating every 2 weeks, will stand weather abuse easily, both dry and wet conditions. strongly recommend for daily do-it-all EDC. Can't go wrong. Tks for nice reviews.
Since i have had the d2 version my old black sv30 para hasn't been used.. i have found the d2 has far superior edge holding for my day to day needs just don't drop it as its quite brittle..
I'm fondlingm y very own Para-Military CPM-D2 FG right now, and I absolutely dig it! Perfect size, excellent bladeshape and an awesome lock. I got the full size Military in CPM-S30V at the same time, and I really love that one aswell. Mine does not have any "scratching" sounds when deploying which I know some Millies tend to have. I'll be EDC'ing the Para and might use the Military for heavy work, if needed. Keep up the good work and keep the reviews coming mate!
First off, I must state that a steel must be properly heat treated. A better grade steel could be worthless with a bad heat treatment compared to a lesser quality steel with a proper heat treatment. With that said, D2 is harder and less prone to breakage. S30V will chip easier, though S30V is no slouch.
CPM-D2, my friend. CPM-D2 will hold an edge better (IMO) and you will get a sharper edge than on the D2 blades. D2 will rust, CPM-D2 too will rust. I've seen my BM 32 Morpho with D2 steel rust.
If you want an *easy to maintain blade steel*, go for the S30V.
I'm forcing a patina on my new BRKT Gunny as I type. I have a D2 Paramillie on its way right now. I was actually thinking about forcing a patina on it, but I wasn't sure how well it would take, as it has 12% chromium. Have you forced a patina on a D2 blade? If so, I'd love to see it.
Thanks for the info. I'm actually just looking for a good edc. If this CPM-D2 doesn't have any special characteristics over the S30V, then it helps narrow down my choices for sure (I'm leaning towards the all black paramilitary).
I personally would als opt for the S30V variants as EDC knife. S30V is well engineered and holds an edge very long. Once the edge isn't that razor-sharp, just use the fine diamond rod of the sharpmaker (or any other sharpening system) to touch up and have a very razor sharp edge again.
If it comes to a very robust EDC with S30V , I would recommend the 615(0) from BM - it's a little too big for some users, but it's a hell of a knife. :) The Para-Military is just a bit too small for EDC work ("heavier" EDC work) - I would recommend the S30V Military, however). Regards,
Any plans for a Paramilitary 2 video?

I'm surprised they didn't coat the blade since D2 is less rust resistant vs other steels.

The s30v hold the edge longer.

there really isn't much benefit of D2 over S30V, more like preference.
I personally prefer S30V for use; I find it to be the best all-rounder.

how would you compare the cpm d2 to the s30v the knife normally has?

What's the difference between D2 and S30V? Or just simply, which steel is better?

When I get non-stainless blades, I like to force patinas on them, to protect it from rust.

S30V as far as knives concern. Easy to maintain, great cutting steel and won't rust.

i think the holes in spyderco knifes look like eyes and the serrated part looks like teeth
they look like aligators

what makes it para military?

It's smaller and uses compression lock instead of liner lock.

actually, this should be CPM-D2, not *only* D2 :)

Actually he is right, despite all the thumbs down ratings. The CPM D2 on the foliage green one is a slightly different steel than regular D2.

I really don't know why all those ppl can't differ D2 from CPM-D2..... and yeah, thanks for all your thumb-down... ignorants....
