nice video, and your right when i was relaxed my hair was mid back length I have been natural for about 3 years :) and when it's straightened it's a little longer thatn mid back length. as for the comparison, relaxed hair required more and natural requires less. but if u care for it properly it will grow. FYI when I did relax i only did 3-4 touch ups per year..then i one day i just stopped. I dont reccomend dyi relaxer go to a professional it's better

To be quite honest people in general don't really think a black person's hair can grow period. Relaxed or natural. So what difference does it really make? But I guess your hair does grow maybe healthier when natural instead of relaxed. My opinion. You may have length but your thickness wont be there. But good luck on your hair regimen. When will people realize that it's not the relaxer that's the issue, it's the hair care after getting the relaxer that is the issue. Natural hair will and does break off when it is not properly cared for. I have been natural for 15 mths and is now going back to relaxed. Why? Because I now know how to properly care for my relaxed hair and I know what works and what does not. Ignorance is the issue, not the relaxer.

I been you using relaxers since i was 5 and my hair has grown to xtreme lengths. 1.) I've always went to professional hairstylist 2.) I always oil down my ends and got cut every 6-8 wks. I had my hair cut twice in my lifetime and my hair always grew back longer than before. So i can't not agree with the statement " Relaxed hair can't grow"

Fact is that relaxed hair IS weaker than natural hair so extra will need to be taken with it and if this is done there is no reason as to why it shouldn't grow. The problem is that lot of black woman choose style over care, i.e. avoiding regular washing and moisture and using gels to slick it back. If you treat your hair well then it will be fine though it is ignorant to deny that relaxers can and have had some drastic consequences even with proper care. I say this as a lifelong natural btw.
I really like this video. Im glad you addressed this. I still relax my hair but I recently just started to grow it out. It wasnt the relaxer that was killing my hair; it was the lack of knowledge I knew about my hair. I have been washing and moisturizing my hair properly and it has been growing so fast. I don't have any spit ends and my hair is never dry anymore. Thanks for adding this video.
These some of these naturals are a trip. Relaxed or natural hair and natural hair is going to have breakage or shedding. Its natural. Relaxed hair is weaker but seems to asorb oils better to me. Basically as long as you keep your hair moisterize and keep split end cut as well as not overusing heat u should be fine.Everyone's hair is not going to grow to their ass. People need to educate and stop bashing others. Natural and relaxed can be damaged if not cared for properly.
Your hair is at least three times weaker when it is relaxed, and you are GUARUNTEED hair breakage with relaxed hair. It WILL happen. Some more than others. Breakage also happens with natural hair, but nowhere NEAR as much, and only if there is friction or pulling.
The chemical sodium hydroxide itself causes breakage of the hair strand, because it has been stripped of proteins and strength as well as moisture.
Your hair can be long relaxed, but it will always be longer and healthier natural.

everyone's hair reacts differently to relaxers. for example my hair takes relaxers very well. i can even use a super and my hair will still be fine. but my mother's hair is more sensitive to relaxers. she has to use sensitive formula and not let it process too long.

@blahblahblahman Not true, Natural hair can be unhealthy too and break off just as much as a relaxer. Its all about proper care. I've seen a lot of dry relaxed and dry natural hair so not true at all.
@ebonie326 hair grows at the same speed regardless of if you are relaxed or natural. the only difference between relaxed and natural hair is relaxers actually DAMAGE the hair to make it straight. so you have to take extra care to your ends to makes sure you can retain that length (natural people dont have to go through all that). and most relaxed people dont take that extra care to retain those damaged strands...which is why they have so much breakage.

i have had natural hair for the last ten years. i have seen numerous black ladies with very receited hair lines due to the burning chemical process of relaxers. relaxed do's are very high maintenance unless you keep hair covered. if you want your hair to grow like never before drink lots of fresh cucumber juice and take biotin for about a month or 2. i do use coconut oil on my hair but eating olive oil yields much better results. try this and let me know how it works. sincerely taxdanger1

Funny and educational.... My cousin use to didnt have any hair (she use to have those tiny ponytails where you spread them out if u know what I'm talking about) but then my grandma use to take her to get her hair braided alot that helped it grow then she started getting hair treatments (relaxed, washed, ends clipped) and now her hair is down her back... but mine is still longer than her lol.... and by the way, those bangs are sick-o-ning.

i havent had a weave in about 2 years, and since Im in high school, going natural is convenient. earlier this year i kept natural relaxed my hair out from Jan to March, and kept my hair braided in micros from april to September. In six months my hair went from chin length to my collar bone (about 3-4 inches). even without micros, i would say that my hair was able to grow, even though braiding speed up the growth process.
@marvinandjosh well i havent ran into any negative natural woman. lol . the people that have had something bad to say to me are actually relaxed ! lol they just dont think that i can grow long healthy hair ! either way...realaxed or natural...i love them both ! in my opinion the negativity just needs to stop ! =]

These some of these naturals are a trip. Relaxed or natural hair and natural hair is going to have breakage or shedding. Its natural. Relaxed hair is weaker but seems to asorb oils better to me. Basically as long as you keep your hair moisterize and keep split end cut as well as not overusing heat u should be fine.Everyone's hair is not going to grow to their ass. People need to educate and stop bashing others. Natural and relaxed can be damaged if not cared for properly.

Your hair is at least three times weaker when it is relaxed, and you are GUARUNTEED hair breakage with relaxed hair. It WILL happen. Some more than others. Breakage also happens with natural hair, but nowhere NEAR as much, and only if there is friction or pulling.
The chemical sodium hydroxide itself causes breakage of the hair strand, because it has been stripped of proteins and strength as well as moisture.
Your hair can be long relaxed, but it will always be longer and healthier natural.

everyone's hair reacts differently to relaxers. for example my hair takes relaxers very well. i can even use a super and my hair will still be fine. but my mother's hair is more sensitive to relaxers. she has to use sensitive formula and not let it process too long.

@blahblahblahman Not true, Natural hair can be unhealthy too and break off just as much as a relaxer. Its all about proper care. I've seen a lot of dry relaxed and dry natural hair so not true at all.

@ebonie326 hair grows at the same speed regardless of if you are relaxed or natural. the only difference between relaxed and natural hair is relaxers actually DAMAGE the hair to make it straight. so you have to take extra care to your ends to makes sure you can retain that length (natural people dont have to go through all that). and most relaxed people dont take that extra care to retain those damaged strands...which is why they have so much breakage.

Im natural and I commend you for sticking up for relaxed hair. Yeah I have heard quite often that relaxed hair is not as positive with growth like natural hair.Either way you cant be lazy to have healthy hair. Natural or Relaxed...U must put in the work!

i have had natural hair for the last ten years. i have seen numerous black ladies with very receited hair lines due to the burning chemical process of relaxers. relaxed do's are very high maintenance unless you keep hair covered. if you want your hair to grow like never before drink lots of fresh cucumber juice and take biotin for about a month or 2. i do use coconut oil on my hair but eating olive oil yields much better results. try this and let me know how it works. sincerely taxdanger1

Funny and educational.... My cousin use to didnt have any hair (she use to have those tiny ponytails where you spread them out if u know what I'm talking about) but then my grandma use to take her to get her hair braided alot that helped it grow then she started getting hair treatments (relaxed, washed, ends clipped) and now her hair is down her back... but mine is still longer than her lol.... and by the way, those bangs are sick-o-ning.

i havent had a weave in about 2 years, and since Im in high school, going natural is convenient. earlier this year i kept natural relaxed my hair out from Jan to March, and kept my hair braided in micros from april to September. In six months my hair went from chin length to my collar bone (about 3-4 inches). even without micros, i would say that my hair was able to grow, even though braiding speed up the growth process.
