in sweden we have had IDs as long as i can remember we all have em its no big deal.

its not to much to ask to actualy demand that a voter can actualy show a legitimate from of identification.

Can't afford an ID? I'm a cop and deal with homeless people all the time. EVEN THEY have ID. Those who don't carry it are still in the system. Believe me, I deal with it all the time.

Anyone making the argument that you don't need ID (& it's ALWAYS the DNC, btw) is actively facilitating voter fraud and the disenfranchisement of legitimate voters. Disappointed or not, I'm SURE those nuns understood why they couldn't vote because requiring no ID defeats the entire purpose of voting.

Umm...even before laws like these, you have to be registered and on the voter rolls for a particular district. The issue is what kind of proof is demanded when you show up to vote. These were really old nuns who live in a convent near Notre Dame's campus and didn't know about the law change in advance. Most likely they're not too mobile and would have had trouble getting to a place to get an ID. Clearly, they've been in no shape to drive for a while so didn't have a license.

Sorry, I usually agree with you guys, but I don't see it as unreasonable to require id for someone to vote. Anyone could dress up as a nun and show up wanting a free pass. Is there more to this story? Like did they have ID but just not a specific type? Cause otherwise, can't agree with you here.

I agree, the legal age to drink in America should be 18. Oh. and this is not a poll tax. A poll tax is having to pay in order to vote. By law, if you are 18 or older you must possess a state ID, regardless of if you vote or not, so forcing people to show ID to vote is not unreasonable.

Yes it is and it takes on various forms and yes, it does get ugly. Here in America, there used to be a poll tax levied upon voters, especially black and minorities. In 1964 it was Ratified by Congress as the 24th Amendment. The last poll tax to fall as unconstitutional by a Supreme Court was in 1966.

Why? Why not a birth certificate, your finger prints, a passport, student ID or other means? Why should we go directly against the constitution by putting up a tax on voters? This is retarded. Unless the IDs are free and handed to the person (not requiring addresses to mail so that homeless people can't vote), ID requirement is unconstitutional.

I agree there needs to be some security in voting so that there isn't any fraud, but unless the state is willing to give out free IDs and giving people that forgot them the opportunity of presenting evidence later (in a reasonable time period), you are effective working against the constitution by posting an inderect poll tax.
