@ngyafero as soon as i heard that riff start in my mind exploded....that type of riffing helps make summoning what they are for sure, its actually a pretty tricky riff because of the feeling behind it, cant just play it and expect it to sound good!
@AlexMoby well i always saw 'let mortal heroes sing your fame' as referring TO the valar/elves/immortals in general from mans point of view, like men singing tales of Ulmo & Orome/Fingolfin or Fingon cause they're so kickass haha. but youre right it could be the other way and Valar are talking about how fucking sweet Turin Tuor and Beren were.."oh SHIT took out Glaurung!!""that tough son of a bitch got the silmaril from MORGOTHS FUCKING HELM!!" etc.. haha
There music takes all the beautiful untouched parts of nature (and middle earths) and bring it to you in a sound that can only be described as romantically powerful music! I can't even compare any band to them, because they stand alone. I love summoning more than anything when life just is. Thanks Silineus and Protector for a wonderful gift of sound /,,/
good, but a tad bit symphonic for my taste.... i listen to symphonic stuff, im a huge fan of Covenant's "In Times Before The Light", but i think this is past my limit for symphonics....good, but itll have to grow on me
To those who think this isn't black metal. Who cares. It don't matter. The fact that it IS black metal is because the band considers it black metal. Therefore, it is. (as far as im concerned out of respect to Summoning). Check out Oath Bound... who ever heard of a band like this create new material that sounds even more classic than their classic shit?!!
Dimmu is black metal, but so is this, and bands like Elffor, Darkspace, Berzum, etc etc. there are many styles of black metal. AND the tradition of black metal is to come out with lower/cheap production.. heard to have been started by the pioneers of black metal (i dont know them). Imo the low production gives it a unique sound and makes it more brutal. Oh and btw go to metal archives [dot] com and search the bands you listen to, if they're not listed they're not metal. simple as that.
@warfighter67 not metal not metal... those who made that site say that is metal and that isnt out of taste. their taste. its not about i want to listen to metal and that is those bands and not those bands... its about listening to fuckin music... its lame too say that that band is not metal. care.. they are good or they arent. depending on what you like...

WHAT. THE. FUCK?
A black metal fan told me that Dimmu borgir had nothing to do with black metal. And then listed THIS as actual black metal?
I'm laughing so much. It sounds like final fantasy! Blessing on the throne of tyranny an serpentine offering are A MILLION TIMES more black metal than this. Fucking hell
you people who listen to this are the same people who say as I lay dying aren't "metal enough" aren't you? You dorks are killing metal more than the emo kids could dream of
wow dude you should chill i love Dimmu and everything but this is just more epic this is like epic black metal and Dimmu is symphonic black metal.. so chill
@statetheobv There are many different types of metal. You must be retarded.
This is not black metal, it's epic folk metal. As I Lay Dying is a metal band, but they're pretty lame. Dimmu Borgir is (symphonic) black metal for the most part. You must not have been listening to metal all that long. After a while and with some research and an open mind you'll be able to see the differences between subgenres with relative ease.
For me let mortal heroes sing your fame is the best summoning album,a great symphonic masterpiece and if not the best one of the best symphonic metal albums ever made.
Well Summoning may be categorized as "Atmospheric Black Metal" (even though such a great artist can't be put into one category), but anyway, Summoning is very close to the limits of the genre (if they exist anyway).
there's a genere called black ambient into which summoning fits. it's a genere which has drifted away from black metal and more into ambient music.
generes anyways are not only based on the sound of a band but also on their history and influences. sort of like plants, they are placed in species and generes depending on their genetic information.
your right chiry, for some reason i had their country of orging mixed up with samael. Strange as they're totally different styles of metal...huge fan of both though
This is on some kind of different level....really it surpasses the quality of any music, metal or not. NO other song (or album for that matter) allows the listener to fall so deep inside the music. I swear those swiss masters have added some mind altering undertones somewhere in thier music....it's fucking mesmerizingly AWESOME
Nah man, I don't think any mind altering tones, although I thought about it. It's just so AWESOME and FUCKING EPIC that the song pulls you right in. That's it, that's all.
they cast down the nobility that nothern pagan tribes had calling them barbarians all while they killed and tortured vast amounts of people all in the name of a god that wouldn't approve of those actions in the first place.
@peter7krejci7 You're right about "this music brings back something inside of us that christianity and civilization killed long ago" but the other one no.
Amazing song,i wish more songs where like this by Summoning,,,another amazing atmospheric black metal band "Sear Bliss" have brass instuments also but when i listen to amazing songs like this and (Kor) from Dol Guldur i wish Sear Bliss playd there trumpets more in this fashion,,at first i was like brass instuments??? but after listening to Sear Bliss's music,,,fucking amazing,,,it does add a powerfull atmosphere to the music if playd right like on this song,
