@bonzoleum Yeah I might be interested in that. I have a red label 24" 2002 ride and it sounds great but its pingy and very heavy. I was looking for a more crashable ride but the current line of giant beat 24's are too light it seems. Would this cymbal be in between these two?
I love my Giant Beats. I have all but the hats. They're the newer reissued ones, of course. Why would Paiste make their reissues differently than the originals (bell size, weight, etc,... ). Why not make what worked back then? Any idea on the reasoning?
@winorth I think it may just be that they use the pressed 2002 blanks (smaller belled) and then using the dimpled hammering and lathing from the original Giant Beats. I have some photos on the web I took of an original 20" GB bell shape versus the re-issues.. If you type in ORIGINAL GIANT BEAT into Google Images you'll see the pics. I put them on the CYMBALHOLIC forum 6 or so years ago.. I much prefer the reissue hats. I had no use for the originals as I thought they were too boxy sounding.
@sticksbass i find alot more spirituality comes from Paiste. Some of the greatest drummers use Paiste such as: John Bonham(ofcourse) , Danny Carey (from Tool), and Nick Mason. its all subjective though
@metalYES12 bonham used remo heads too and theres nothing superior to remo over ludwig heads. in fact remos can disastrously slip out of their hoops while ludwig designed theirs so that cant happen. idk but i think bonham may have been paid to use remo.
@metalYES12 i used evens hydraulics wout any probs. they have a white plastic looking hoop that seems tove been molded onto the head; idk. i assume typical evans hoops are designed similar to remo's since ive never seen evans make any hoop locking system claims as ludwig and aquarian and i think attack do.
@sticksbass recently bought myself a Paiste 400 Power Ride & it is as nice as any ride I have played, especially the bell, blew me away coz these r supposed to be intermediate cymbals but it is definitely not intermediate sounding ride to me. Maybe I just got lucky with one of those cymbals that sounds better than normal coz it really is very nice. I've since bought more Paiste's, I'm impressed with em all, they don't have the same reputation as Zildjian, Sabian etc but they r just as good IMHO
@nigelregan Paiste is the master of B8 alloy-that's for sure. With the exception of the 602s, SF, Sigs, DE, 402s, 302s and various entry level (402, 302 200, brass tones, etc) and the original Stanople, Dixie, Stambul, Standard, everything was B8 alloy and they all sound terrific!
@nigelregan i bet thats rare for a paiste to have a bell that doesnt sound like they do on cheapys. ive tested alot of top of the line paistes w normal bells and the bells were duds every time.
@sticksbass you're not the only person to say that to be honest but all I can say is maybe I just got one of those goodies that happen along from time to time? I'm very happy with it and I've played it in quite a few different settings & styles. Since trying other Paiste's I'm converted, I still say they are hugely under rated. They never seemed hugely popular with other drummers but I just can't understand why after buying & playing a few of em I love em :-)
I can barely wait for part 5. If possible I'd like you to go even deeper on the series, 2002 for example. Talk about the chinas and such. Just bringing it up because I just got a 1976 24" to match my 1975", although they're very different in sound.
Did you end up buying that 24" Giant Beat ride? Or is it still up for sale?

@Viper9059 I still have the GB 24 ride here. I finally got a hold of my friend Bob. I can hook you up with him if you like.

You just got a 1976 24" 2002 RIDE to match your 24" 1975 RIDE?
That's terrific!
