When I heard this being played live on television, I was immediately inspired. Since then, I have learned this piece and started on the roll of very hard pieces. This piece can capture a soul like nothing else can. What do you expect? It's jazz and you can play your heart out.
I got to see this the day befor at the dress rehersal. They were so amazing and that was such a good experience, especially with the Jersey Boys! I went again this year but it kinda sucked because Glays Knight and Darius Rucker didn't show up. Any who this is a really good version of this song!! Great piano players as well!
This is why I miss living in the DC area, so much class, entertainment and culture that cannot be found in the midwest where I unfortunately live now. One day I hope to come back and listen to the NSO again, they are so marvelous, and the fireworks are spectacular!
i remember hearing this on TV from the other room on the 4th, and dashing inside going "gershwin?!" LOL. i love it. :3 so glad i can watch it again, from the beginning.
Michael is a known "commodity" in the music world, but Andrew is a newbie to many of us; definitely a "keeper," one to keep in mind over what will surely be a long future.
It was such a pleasure to see two talented musicians, one from the world of "popular" music, the other from the "classical" world, come together in such a wonderful performance. Bravo to Michael and Andrew!
What a wonderful treat! I was lucky enough to be there and to hear these two wonderful performers live. Andrew von Oeyen is such an accomplished young man and he has a brilliant future as a concert pianist. I know we'll hear and see much more from him. Come back soon to DC Andrew!

Is it possible to hear Gershwin and not smile? He captures the American can- do spirit.

von Oeyen just played Beethoven's Emperor Concerto in Little Rock. It was excellent and the audience loved him.

It's hard to believe that Kunzel just died a few months later on Sept 1, 2009 of pancreatic cancer. Like Swayze, another very very unfortunate case.

Thank you so much! I had recorded this and someone erased it. I'm so happy to be able to hear it again.
This piece is played beautifully. A real masterpiece!

I really enjoyed the performance and Andrew von Oeyen's intensity during the piece. I'll be looking forward to him coming into the Chicago area.

I am not really a fan of this gentleman's way of playing the opening clarinet solo. Otherwise excellent performance!

Mr. von Oeyen brings a great deal of technique, polish, and musicality to this performance. I'm looking forward to seeing him in person.
