They do the same thing to aladdin and jasmine, pocahontas, and esmeralda who's skin is as dark as tiana's in the movie their darker but in the advertisements, products, and toys they lighten their skin to appeal to white families that buy their products.
technically naveen isn't white he's a fictional race of brown people. The origin of his name is from india. I do think they should have had a black prince because this can influence black girls to look for a prince that looks like that when they grow up and could affect the self esteem of young black males not having a cartoon hero to see them selves in. When I look at naveen I see him as north african, middle eastern, or indian.

Since when do men care about a princess movie. First of all, It showed her FATHER in a positive light, her whole reason for getting her Restaurant was because of her Black FATHER.So there was a black family in it. Secondly, the prince is Creole. A mix of French/ Black/ and sometimes Indian. Disney finally gave black girls the princess they wanted and people are still pissed. In the end, He choose the black girl over the white one with money. First of all, the prince isn't white. While he may not be black, he obviously ISN'T white, he's of Spanish descent. Tiana's father was black and was obviously a loving father and husband. Her mother supported him when he was alive and they had a great relationship. It shows him as loving, hardworking, kind and honest. He's the type of man any woman would be proud to have. I agree that majority of disney movies have each race paired with their own race (save Pocahontas) But I would appreciated our first black princess to have been married to a fellow black man. Okay, I'm a Black 16 year Girl saying this...The Prince isn't White. He's French/Black and his parents are clearly mixed of Black & French at the end of the movie. To tell you the truth, I think Disney did a great job with this movie. They even made a quote that they would take this into "Special care and consideration" probably because they knew that some people just get the wrong idea. I'm just glad that Tiana isn't like how other movies and shows make Black Women today.
Me being quite a young Black Women, I want to point out that I have never given up on my race of men. However, I think that the reason so many Black Women are starting outer-racial relationships is because of the image the media is setting for young Black Men nowdays. Fearless2005, I saw the movie. I didn't have a problem with her being with a white man, even though I know they wouldn't dare put a white woman with a black man. What about the fact that she was a frog for most of the movie? That's the real problem.

I do think they should have had a black prince because this can influence black girls to look for a prince that looks like that when they grow up and could affect the self esteem of young black males not having a cartoon hero to see them selves in. If you bring your child up to accepting of others and to have an open mind then they won't be affected as much. I think there is a special thing about a black man and a black woman coming together (not that interracial relaionships aren't special, too) and I think it just represents a sense of unity, so I would have appreciated disney showing that in this movie, especially since all the previous white princesses got a white prince, so why couldn't we get a black prince? We're going to have to make our own fairy tale movie.

Since when do men care about a princess movie. First of all, It showed her FATHER in a positive light, her whole reason for getting her Restaurant was because of her Black FATHER.So there was a black family in it. Secondly, the prince is Creole. A mix of French/ Black/ and sometimes Indian. Disney finally gave black girls the princess they wanted and people are still pissed. In the end, He choose the black girl over the white one with money. But, I guess all you see is the hue he was painted.

I am always taken back by how absolutely dumb black people are. Fearless2005 makes an observation that should be made. The issue with to many black people in the U.S. is that they are dumb, and I mean that in the truest sense of the word. It may help for them to spend a few hours listening to Joy Leary, Claude Anderson, Dr. Clarke, and even some Tim Wise, because most of us don't even know what racism is. And that is a damn shame. First of all, the prince isn't white. While he may not be black, he obviously ISN'T white, he's of Spanish descent. Tiana's father was black and was obviously a loving father and husband. Her mother supported him when he was alive and they had a great relationship. It shows him as loving, hardworking, kind and honest. He's the type of man any woman would be proud to have. And Prince Naveen is not caucasion. He is of Hispanic origin and it is nothing wrong with Disney reaching to African-Americn ethincity as well as the Hispanic ethnic group. The two do have much in common being the major superior foreign ethnic groups in America. And also, who knows, if disney decides to add another Princess to the line up in the next 10 years, her fellow co-star, the next Disney Prince could be of African-American ethnicity.

First and foremost, I feel that as an adult, the whole fantasy of a Disney movie is taken in through a child's eyes because most of them still have there innocents around this age and many adults (I wont say all) have gone through this phase of life...so when they see movies (classical ones) such as this, that is based off of the Princess Fairytale script, it is very cliche' to them from the jump.

I'm only 21. I took my 6 year old cousins to see this. And I didn't like the movie at all. I agree that majority of disney movies have each race paired with their own race (save Pocahontas) But I would appreciated our first black princess to have been married to a fellow black man. I'm not opposed to inter-racial coupling. I am a child of a black woman and puerto rican man. At the end of the day it's all about love and not race. Would have been nice to see it since Aladdin & Mulan got theres.

Okay, I'm a Black 16 year Girl saying this...The Prince isn't White. He's French/Black and his parents are clearly mixed of Black & French at the end of the movie. To tell you the truth, I think Disney did a great job with this movie. They even made a quote that they would take this into "Special care and consideration" probably because they knew that some people just get the wrong idea. I'm just glad that Tiana isn't like how other movies and shows make Black Women today.

However, I think that the reason so many Black Women are starting outer-racial relationships is because of the image the media is setting for young Black Men nowdays. I liked that you drew the comparison between mainstream toys and this movie. One only needs to examine the doll experiment (which was repeated what 2-3 years ago) to see that little children can and will identify with race. The argument that boys do not identify with princes is lame. Why is it that there have been no black princes for the white princesses?
