What he does would not work for 95% of people, and even Chuck would have been more effective with better technique. i love boxing and alot of boxers. when people say Anderson Silva could beat Roy Jones Jr. in a boxing match i tell them to eat shit. In an MMA match, on the otherhand, Anderson would submit him easily. If Liddell were to box with James Toney he would get spanked, if Chuck takes him down Toney is fucked. Even though Chuck isnt known for his grappling, it is light years ahead of Toney's non-existent ground game. if they fought Chuck might make the mistake and try to bang and he would pay dearly.
Totally agree. Takes a lot of work to be a great boxer and a long time to master. I do BJJ and there is a lot of memory involved; the longer you take it the more it builds on it's self. All of the arts are great. I borrow from "every" one of them. A great MMA fighter must have at least 2 arts fairly well mastered to be be competitive.
@44rumblefish... you are right. After youve practiced BJJ(or whatever form of grappling) for so long it becomes instinct. If you have good takedowns and good grappling and submissions and you are fighting a far superior straight up boxer then you will be able to totally dictate where the match is going to take place. Even Chuck Liddell would be able to do this with Toney in my opinion.

i agree. they are tough as shit. but grappling strength is a completely different thing than overall strength and punching ability. Unless they have specifically trained grappling they will get schooled on the ground. grappling is alot harder than it looks. Even if somehow they wound up in a dominant top position they would get reversed by someone with better grappling. Most pure boxers would be a fish out of water on the mat.

chuck liddell is a ok fighter alot of ufc guys dont have hands or good strikes and with liddells takedown defense he was able to knock out his opponents cuz hes a strong guy. But if you look at :38 sec hes very off balance and this punch can break your hand and do no damage but yo yourself if it lands on some1's head. Tyson owns chuck.

Totally agree. Takes a lot of work to be a great boxer and a long time to master. I do BJJ and there is a lot of memory involved; the longer you take it the more it builds on it's self. All of the arts are great. I borrow from "every" one of them. A great MMA fighter must have at least 2 arts fairly well mastered to be be competitive.

If you have good takedowns and good grappling and submissions and you are fighting a far superior straight up boxer then you will be able to totally dictate where the match is going to take place. i agree. they are tough as shit. but grappling strength is a completely different thing than overall strength and punching ability. Unless they have specifically trained grappling they will get schooled on the ground. grappling is alot harder than it looks. Even if somehow they wound up in a dominant top position they would get reversed by someone with better grappling. Most pure boxers would be a fish out of water on the mat.

Who gives a shit about street fighting, you gain nothing from it. There are so many variables that there is no true answer. What if its 10 on 1? 1 on 1, 4 on 2? What if the attacker is 16 and the defender is 24? There are so many variables, who cares.

If theres four guys and one of you, and you have good hands the others are just punks, crack the biggest guy out of them all and the rest wont want any trouble 80% chance of this. Ive seen guys get REAL tough from the street I disagree, but the gym will take you further.

Boxers are actually pretty shitty fighters, they only have one real weapon. I've seen an experianced boxer with a 10-2 record lose to a noobie Muy Thai fighter just because the boxer wasn't conditioned to take kicks to the leg.

i understand. but the reason a 'boxer' can't beat a muy thai fighter is because he hasn't trained to beat one.
it's like saying i seen a geo metro get beat in a race by a camaro. one was make for nothing but gas saving while the other made for performance.

you're only proving my point further. Muy Thai was made for performance its the Geo Metro. Muy thai is one of the best martial arts and much better than boxing.
Boxing's still great though, just not on its own.
