For all these online critics, if you ever heard Stella live you would shut up your mouths forever. No one around nowadays who would/could sing like this.
She is wonderful indeed. I really like her in Chenier, both live and the famous Corelli studio rec. Somewhat under-appreciated I think, I wonder why. She reminds me of Tebaldi sometimes... not as dark, but a better top ;)
See earlier comment about the way the chest voice is incorporated and balanced in her WHOLE voice. That was a major part of Italian voice teaching, especially in this generation (40s-60s). Voice teachers nowadays are afraid to touch the chest voice which is why we so rarely have voices like Stella, Tebaldi, etc. anymore (Not to mention tenors)
Believe you me, they are around but it is now so fashionable to put light voices in the spinto repertoire that when one hears a true spinto these days people think she is a dramatic soprano. I also believe it is to to with how the voices are trained.
cause classical music has dropped and there are people who have naturally huge soprano ranges are not aware of it or do not persue classical music because it is not making money right away
Belle chanteuse, interprétation séduisante, joli timbre, technique affirmée...comment n'a t'elle pas fait une carrière plus exceptionnelle?que ceux qui encensaient la ventriloque Mme Callas s'en mordent les doigts pour l'éternité!
The ears of the "educated" have long been corrupted. Ask anyone on the street who is not classically educated in voice who is better and they will tell you...STELLA!!!!!
Not onlt the greatest Maddalena, but certainly one of the best Amelias of all time, as well. Like her "Ecco l'orrido campo" better than this aria...but it's all fabulous. How wonderful to hear a soprano approach this role lyrically! Why ever did that go out of style??
Lasciamo la Ricciarelli a chi piace così tanto da preferirla a questo strumento perfetto e meraviglioso. Discutere con i sordi è impossibile e frustrante...

Why is it so hard to find huge soprano voices like this these days? Does anyone know why?

Some phrases and parts of the voice remind Tebaldi.

No one sings like that - it is so fabulous and yet we know nothing about Antonietta Stella as compared to Lesley garrett.

She's got a great voice but takes too many breaths that break the phrase and it's very annoying.

Good performance, but I appreciated more Ricciarelli's.

please,
Antonietta Stella is a dramatic soprano of rare vocal and technical perfection. She was one of Serafin's stars.
Katia Ricciarelli couldn't possibly reach her level in a million years.

Yes. She is much more steady, and the right vocal color and weight for this repertoire. Ricciarelli killed her voice singing this stuff..
