Airliner Water Ditching

To stress a point, this pilot hardly had a chance as he was forced to fly until all fuel ran out and then he had no power for flap/spoiler deployment. Without those, an airliner is a very fast and inefficient glider. The Hudson flight still had full hydraulics, and so was able to touch down at a much slower relative speed. Also, the calm of the river was in contrat to the ocean swell.

They made a freaking documentary on it. The reason people died is because they're idiots and deployed their life vests too early. They got caught underneath and in the plane and drowned.

The Tigre pilot doesn't know how to read the computer and lost direction.

He landed on the water because he thought it is a runway.

The pilot was very skilled in that ditching. He knew he couldn't just belly it down straight since the engines hung below the wings and the friction it caused would've torn the plane up worse than it did.

"Expertly?" Isn't the plane cartwheeling at the end? I can understand that it could have been worse considering the conditions, but "expertly," to me, suggests a bit more miraculous of a landing. Only 52 people got out alive. Must have been terrifying.

about 60 to 80 people drowned and had nothing to do with the landing. they inflated their life jacket inside the cabin in a panic and was stuck in side the cabin while the plane sank.

This was Ethiopian Airlines Flight 961. The Boeing 767 was carrying 175 passengers and crew when it was hijacked shortly after taking off from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The hijackers demanded that they be taken to Australia, and refused to allow the pilot to land the plane when he told them the jet was out of fuel. 175 passengers were on board, 127 died, including 3 of the hijackers. The pilot survived.
