Never used a sequential gearbox, so I'm a bit curious, why wont he push the clutch all the time while switching down? Is he using the engine too to slow down the car?
Actually, it's because sometimes you get "pad knock off" where the brake pads get pushed back by the disc. It means that when you go to brake, the first part of the pedal application does nothing because it's just taking up that slack. Therefore when coming up for a big brake like at Fuji, they'll dab the brake to make sure the pedal will be firm and the pads will be in the correct spot, not a few millimetres from the disc!
Ecco un bel esempio di come si fanno le cambiate con il sequenziale...ottimo il punta/tacco per tenere alto il motore in scalata...peccato la macchina non sia tra le mie preferite ma al pilota tanto di cappello, very good racer!
@jelzin1985 sequential or not doesn't have to do with it. There are H-gated gearboxes (dog ring gearbox) that you can shift the same way as this sequential box. Most use a quickshifter that cuts ignition for a 1/10 second or so, so the gears are unloaded when you jam the shifter, though you can do it manually by just lifting the throttle a bit.
@MPI100 Jelzin 1985's point was that it's a sequential gearbox so you don't need a clutch. He's correct. The initial question didn't ask whether there are H pattern gearbox's that can operate in a similar way.
@superkorridor The vibration car causes the pads to be knocked back from the disc, so tap it to make sure the brakes feel the same every time. Its a thing you wont find many GOOD single seat car drivers doing though for some reason they put up with the differance corner to corner. Its a habit Touring cars, GTs etc started. If you dont do it the pedal just travels a bit further for the same braking but in a badly prepared car you can get to the end of travel with no/little brakes coming in.
What is the major different between the 09 and 010 spec cup car? Cause I only heard that the Cup S been replaced by another car that's much more power but thats about it

@majom89
As in why doesn't he just hold the clutch the entire time while braking? Reasons that I know of:
1) Faster Lap Times in general (see below)
2) Like you said, engine braking
2) Smoothness into a corner
3) Its safer to always be in gear, as you have more complete control over the attitude of the car at all times
PS: All of these reasons also apply to the traditional H-pattern 'box as well!

Why he touches the brake with his left foot sometimes??(just touch, not press)
izagury 8 months ago
@izagury Probably checking to see he still has brakes. Don't want to get to the end of the straight and find they've failed at 270kph.

@WiseGuy02 No, um racers do that because it pushes the fluid in the hoses a bit more so they provide more braking power. :)

@MyBoogeryBooger Well that would make sense. Have them primed ready to go.,

@jelzin1985 no, he doesn't need to use the clutch to shift down, but most drivers prefer it because it doesn't wear out the straight cut gears.

Nice video. Thanks for sharing. What video system do you use to show the dash display? I would like to have the same setup in my 997 Cup car.
