  • i love this film, i can't remember how old i was when i first saw it but i 21 now so probably 16 or something. its weird tho cos i not at all religious and usually don't like watching religious things but i love this probably because of the great music and its quite funny

  • im in this play at a place i do plays

  • This is beyond any imagination... it beats even any surrealistic masterpiece. It is an external video recording where you can see the TV frame but also hear the clock beating the seconds... Amazing good old Andy would have been sooo jelous

  • same here good luck to you

  • I saw this movie today for the first time, and this song made me bawl my eyes out because I know how she feels. My love and I are Australian and American respectively, and I left the home I love to be home in Australia with him. Anywhere he is is home to me. Gee, I'm bawling as I write this! Thanks for posting.

  • each time i saw this movie and listen to this outstandingly beautiful song i cried..this time wasn't different :P

great movie,songs,music,actors-everything made this movie so touching and timeless.

  • @koolba88 i so agree with you...i cry everytime i watch it ...not just on this scene... :) one of the best movies of all times!

  • does anyone how i can see the movie online

  • you can watch it here on youtube. just type fiddle on the roof part 1 and start from der

  • I wonder what became of the actress who played Hodel? She was fantastic.

  • Michele Marsh continues to act to this day. Fiddler was really her first role of any size. Since then she's been in everything from Gunsmoke to Little House on the Prairie to Desperate Housewives and Medium. When they did a DVD release of Fiddler in 2007 there was a 16 minute feature called An Interview with Tevye's Daughters which catches up with Marsh, Rosalind Harris and Neva Small. You learn for example how Bette Middler passed up the role of Tzeitel.

  • poor tevye...

    hotle look like my friend...

this is a wonderful song... i little off with the grafics

  • any producer who attepts to re make a classic is a prat. classics are classic for a reason!

    love the movie

  • great movie!!! i love it!

  • She is a really good singer & actress

  • i love this movie so much

  • Beautifully sung by the actress...and a touching, emotionally, melancholly song...

  • luvly song

  • younger people? I love this movie and i'm still in high school...but i am a lot different than others. I'd still prefer this version.

  • nice comeback ;)

Classics are always the best!! : )

  • younger people!!!

who cares if they dont like original...

then theyre just gonna like something thats butchered....

im 17 and ive loved this movie since i was like born....and if u remake a classic like this....ur juss gonna kill another classic like every other movie

  • @Ritoog1

    I couldn't agree more.

I can only imagine how the True Grit remake is going to turn out. In my opinion though, whoever they get to play the girl would be a better choice than the oribinal, but the original movie as a whole was great in and of itself.

  • They should NOT remake this "for the younger people". I'm 20, and have loved this movie since I was a child.

Changing this movie to suit the initial tastes of young people would be BAD; if they can't learn to enjoy this quality classic, that's tragic for them, but letting their warped tastes twist something this amazing into another shallow, empty remake would be unspeakably depressing. It'd be for their own good to learn to appreciate this quality movie as it is.

    If it ain't broke....!

  • BS!. This movie was and still is a classic musical based on true events, even if the characters themselves aren't real. What you are suggesting is that we remake this movie and twist as number of things and essentially say something completely different against history itself. In that case, you might as well do a remake of Schindler's List, The Longestest Day, Escape from Sobibor and oh so many more. It's just wrong and doing so would essentailly dull the next generation's senses even more.

  • @GLOBALRAPTUREdotcom i'm not american...i would hate for this movie to have a remake...i agree with everyone else...they'll just kill it..

  • I totally agree with you. "Fiddler On The Roof" should never be remade. How could a new version be an improvement over the perfection that THIS movie was?

  • Bull crap, I'm no older than a teenager and I like the movie the way it is.

  • this is such a pretty song after this song is over the movie is really sad

  • I GOT THE PART!!! i was soo excited when i found out...this song rocks!!! and i got the best perchick too!! woo hoo!! =D

  • what?

  • Its so good now! Immortal. How could it be improved?

  • oh god please dont remake this film!!! its great as it is....

  • i just found out i got the part of hodle in our school play next year!-i cant wait to start practising this scene!!

  • i just figured i'd come back and comment for old times sake...the musical went great-we sold out and even got standing ovations,it was the most fun i've ever had in my whole life-i hope everyone elses musicals went well? :D still love this song!!

  • @Behappyxoxox Well done :)

Glad it went well for you! When I did Fiddler 2 years ago, it was some of the most fun I've ever had too. Congrats!

  • @KadysWellies aw thank you!!yeah there's nothing quite like it is there? :D

  • LOL...I sang this song in my high school drama production...back in the late 70's. It was still "fresh" then... : )

  • It's still fresh now, to me!! :D

  • Yes! The wonderful phenonema about the classics! They are always fresh! I stand corrected! It was, shall I say...new when our high school chose this musical to produce.

  • actually I like the whole film,so I like any parts of it.

  • @KadysWellies Me too!!!

  • haha! im singing this for a solo in school

  • i'm in this musical.

    Mcintyre Hall in WA

  • me too! I play the town gossip in both crossover acts! if you think you know who i am, guess!

  • You're in the META play????

  • ya. I'm Alex!

  • but yesss it has a the terrible sound quality!!

  • aww this is the saddest scenee of the movie ... I love the way Tevye express his sandness... his eyes are so deep... i love this movie...

  • I'm singing this for solofest but theres no way il be able 2 do it as good as her

  • Even with the terrible sound quality of this, watching it still made me cry. this is the sweetest, saddest scene in the entire movie, a movie that has been one of my three all time favorites for many decades now (the other two being Ten Commandments starring Charlton Heston, and the Sound of Music). and yes, this second daughter is my dream woman, the angel whom i would love to marry

  • Out of the 5 sisters, Hodel was my favorite :p

  • mine, too, by far

  • i love the song

    great quolity

but u can tell uve filmed the tv

and u can hear the clock ticking in the back round

    but good choice of song

  • lol. i'm in this musical @ my school. it's just a lot shorter 'cause it's the jr. version.

  • this is my story. left everything i knew as home to be with the man i love. miss my family. love my husband. beautiful song.

  • The part where they show young Hodel run into Tevres arms is touching.

  • :**(

  • Thats awesome...I love this song.

  • i'm trying out for our high school's version of this next week, and i hope to get Hodel!

  • such a beautiful song :) i love this scene!

  • the high school in my town just had their closing night (last night) and sadly i like the girl who sang it in the high school version i saw better than this because (in this) her voice is a little twangy on the vowels

  • think that might be the recording tho...

  • no its not i watched it on tv on thanksgiving and me and my mom agreed that we liked the highschooler was better

  • my school's putting up Fiddler on the Roof this month. we have separate actors playing the characters and different people singing the songs while the actors lip- sync... and i'm singing for hodel!

  • ours too!! im chava tho...

  • I was singing Hodel too, just a week ago (A)

  • i love her voice! it's simple but beautiful

  • Totally agreed

  • Aw, poor Tevye. One of my best friends was Hodel and she did beautifully.

  • I know it's so sad :*)

Aww, I'm glad your friend did it justice! ;)

  • Hey if anyone knows how much Hodel is in the show please tell me!!!

  • Quite a bit! She has a lot in the first half of the show and then a fair amount in the 2nd half until this song when she leaves for good- until curtain calls that is xD

I'd look up the storyline on a website like wikipedia to get a better idea of the storyline as a whole, or (even better!) if you can get your hands on it watch the film :) Both helped me in knowing the musical inside-out!

    :P

  • Yes indeed. I'm Hodel right now and it's actually a really big part. She has a solo, a duet with perchik, and then of course matchmaker. She also sings in Sunrise, Sunset and the opening. It's a pretty rad part. :]

  • Agreed :) I loved doing it too :DD

  • Hodel is in the first act of the show pretty much, but then she goes off with Perchik, so she's gone till curtain call.

  • Thanks for puting it on its rlly good:)

  • My pleasure ;)

  • i was hodel in my highschools production of this...

it was a blasty blast except that i wasnt in the rest of the show :/

oh well... thx 4 putting it up!

  • I was Hodel too :)

Good way of putting that!! I agree with the blasty blast experience!!

Pleasure :D Thanks for the comment! ^^

  • poopnug

  • This is SUCH a beautiful song, it is just so, well its hard to explain, like the notes match the words and music and meaning perfectly. It overwhelms me with sheer emotion

  • Thats a Beautiful song i have to sing it in Broadway showcase im thirteen i love musicals they touch your heart you just see the look in their eyes and it feels like its happening to you !

  • Isn't it just!! :) Oh, I love musicals too :D I love to perform and even write them :D I absolutely adore that comment you've put about them touching your heart..it's so sweet :)

Thanks so much for the comment ^^

  • why does everyone come to brag? they all say theyre doing this role, theyr singing this song and where, come ON millions of ppl do this play...get a life.

  • its most definetly not a brag i know that millions of people do this play that is what makes it special everyone gets that same feeling of prode and accomplishment! And Boadway showcase is a school prduction where anyone can sing a song and prepare for so people can hear a musical song in a different way.

  • Thank you so much :) It's so good that other people can accept that a lot of people will do this show and be proud of doing it :) Some people are just bitter...

    Thanks so much ^^

  • It most defenitely IS a brag. you said so yourself, that you feel a sence of pride and accomplishment andf you want to tell everyone about it. that's called BRAGGING.

  • You are ridiculous! I think you just want ppl to talk to you!! So what if ppl are proud about what they accomplish... It's a lot of hard work to perform roles! I think you should get over yourself and worry about what you say and do... not everybody else!

  • I have seen the movie over 50 times and each time I grasp something NEW.. I raised my 3 daughters in this fashion, (Sabbath, music, candles, etc.) It was a wonderful life...I weep when i remember them as children and singing these songs with me...This is how God intended our lives to be...so simple, yet blessed and so happy...I was so happy...Thanks Kadie! Toda Raba & Shalom! ~ Catalina

  • I love this film too :) It makes me really happy :D Oh, your Jewish!! I loved doing this as a school production, because it was so interesting to look into the jewish faith and how some people lives their lives... yours must be a good life to live :) Thank you so much, Catalina

  • that look in his eyes as he loses his daughter in his heart.. amazing A++++ topol!!

  • I KNOW :D What a guy :) He is such a great actor :D

Haha! I think we should add on an extra plus! **A+++++** ^^

  • everything after the second "i must go" is the most emotional shit ever haha. brilliant

  • haha lol Damn right!! xDD

I love this song waay too much! :)

Thanks for the comment; I'm glad you liked this! :)

  • Hehe I can hear your clock a-tick-tick-ticking!

    XXX

Btw, you were better than her :)

  • Tick

    Tock

    Tick

    Tock

    :) xxx

Aww, thanks Sammie :D *lots of love*

  • golly, i cry every time i hear this song!

  • Aww, it is a good song :)

  • KAte my lovely you do this song much better :) You were absolutely AMAZING!!! Why can't I go to your school? Beautiful song! and you have a beautiful voice too!!! xxx

  • Thanks Cazzy :) Yes, WHY don't you go to my school?! Silly thing... it is a gorgeous song! I'm finding it quite difficult this morning; it hasn't quite sunk in that I'm not gonna go to rehearsals anymore.. But it was an absolutely awesome experience ^^

  • Thats the problem when ur finished a play isnt it. U know its over but you miss it so much u dont want to belive that it is. The whole prossess of making a play just brings so many people together!

  • I know :) It's so sad when it's over, but then sometimes afterwards you're still really close to loads of people that you met when doing it, so it doesn't matter as much as it could have if you never saw them again, but it is difficult at first :)

    Thanks for commenting! x

  • de version me n my class r doing, sounds well better. all de songs have a different kinda tune!!!!!!

  • Do you mean key?? Cause, yeah, in the stage show a lot of the songs are in a different key, so sound a bit different (I know; I'm doing it at school too!! xD) Do you have a part or are you in the chorus?? I play Hodel! ^^

    Thanks for your comment!

  • im in, l'chaim, tradition. the sabath prayer nd anatevka!!!! i have to be a man tho coz i cant sing that high!!! im in an all girls school n we dnt do de play wit another school!!!

  • Cool :) All of those songs are really good :) I go to a mixed school but there are way more girls in the cast anyway, so a lot of them have to be guys too :P

  • lovin the movie n song!!!!!!

    its beautiful

  • It is a good movie and the song is one of the best in the show (in my opinion - not that I'm biased towards it in any way(I'm singing it in our school show! Lol)) :P

    Glad you like it!

  • cool vid (sorri i hvnt been on in ages SOOOOOOO BUSY) i hvnt seen Fiddler on the Roof!!! i no, i no!!! will watch it someday

    James xx

  • It's not exactly my work; we can thank Jerry Bock and Sheldon Harnick for it - they wrote the musical!!

Haha! Glad you thought the clock wasn't TOO loud! ;P and that you like it..
