  • If JFK had lived he would have tried his ultimate best to try to prevent any conflicts in Vietnam. That's one of the reasons why "they" killed him. movie has no point at all.

  • More evidence on JFK - Vietnam:

Chomsky's response on JFK and Vietnam:

    v=aC5nhzN2fHU

JFK want to withdraw but not without victory. Even Hitler wanted to end the war but after victory. JFK's language was no different than George Bush or Barrack Obama, that we must defeat _____ and the people of ____ have to win the war and that to withdraw from ____ will be a mistake. Fill in the blanks with Communists / Extremists / Terrorists and Vietnam / Afghanistan / Iraq.

  • @optimistsRUS ,Do you swallow everything that chomsky utters,or have you done any personal research on What JFK'S intentions were as related to vietnam, facts made public by men central to implementing his policies,McNamara,Galbraith,Taylor,McBundy and RFK,i suppose he was killed by a lone nut as your icon chomsky contends,Fascists hated JFK because he wasn't Right wing enough,Leftists like Chomsky/Hersch hate him because he hasn't Left Wing enough.Great man was JFK,Fuck all liars like chomsky.

  • "That's my hope that this will become increasingly obvious to the government (of Vietnam) that they would take steps to try to bring back popular support for this very essential struggle."

"...in the final analysis it's the people in the government themselves that will have to win or lose this struggle, all we can do is help, and we make it very clear. But I don't agree with those who say we should withdraw, that'd be a great mistake, that'd be a great mistake!"

  • JFK's Croncite Interview, Sep 1963.

"I don't think that unless a greater effort is made by the Government to win popular support that the war can be won out there. In the final analysis, it's their war, they are the ones who have to win it or lose it. We can help them, we can give them equipment, we can send our men out there as advisers, but they have to win it, the people of Vietnam against the Communists."

  • I purchased the DVD. It's worth having. I think the filmakers should have dealt more deeply with the Bay of Pigs such as: the Joint Chiefs lying to JFK and setting him up for a military invasion - but he didn't take the bait. Also I think they should have looked at what he might have done with Vietnam if the situation deteriorated there. Nevertheless, it is wonderful to watch JFK's calm determination to keep the U.S. out of war despite scathing criticism. He was just the greatest!

  • @0907oliv,

JFK didn't want to end the wars, he authorized Bay of pigs invasion, he escalated Vietnam war and he didn't want to leave Vietnam before "winning against the communists". Eisenhower said that if elections were allowed 80% Vietnamese will choose Ho Chi Minh.

  • I purchased the DVD 2 months ago. It's worth having. I think the filmmakers could have dealt more deeply with the Bay of Pigs such as: the Joint Chiefs lying to JFK & setting him up for a military invasion - but he didn't take the bait. I also think they should have examined questions regarding Vietnam after Diem & what JFK might have done if the situation deteriorated. Nevertheless, it is wonderful to watch JFK's calm determination to keep the U.S. out of war despite scathing criticism.

  • JFK was the one of the "true" American Presidents, we dont get many of those anymore.

  • Saw this Friday at the Film Forum in NYC. Certainly made Kennedy look like the legend i remeber as a boy. His press conferences showed a man who was thoughtful and reasonably honest with the press. A very long way from republicans of today like Bush and Palin. Americans must have become a lot dumber over the last 60 years.

  • Dumber?

    You betcha! Pew! Pew! Pew!

  • jamenolan, i have been dying to see this! Is thi sbeing released in theaters or what? How did you see it?

  • An important film for all Americans to see, especially before November 4th. Very well done. BCC

  • I can't wait to see it. I'll be there opening night.

  • great musical score

  • He was charismatic, powerful and intelligent. He posessed a quick wit and a sense of humor. He was also, however, a skilled politician with skeletons in the family closet.

The problem with an historical "what if" scenario is that all possible answers must be based on circumstantial evidence. Looks very interesting, though, and I hope to see it. I also liked the music very much.

  • Can't wait to see it
