I know he is undersized but i would consider Dwight a real center he's probably the only guy in the NBA who is a legit back to the basket center. Him and Shaq of course. Like I said Dwight is only 6'11 but he game is like that of a real center.
Has no one heard of Wilt Chamberlin? Maybe Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (all time leading scorer of a little thing called the NBA) ? But also as sigto117 said, it's irrelevant to compare players from different eras
Yes I have and Olajuwon whooped his sky hooking behind! just cause he played 50 years and is the leading scorer just means he was durable and was blessed to play with players that may have been better than him! As far as Wilt goes, Russell abused him on a nightly basis...and at 6'9". Both Wilt and Kareem are great centers but were too slow for Olajuwon. If he made Robinson look slow!
Kareem was 37 years old when Olajuwon came into the league. That year he averaged 22 points and 8 rebounds per game. Even at almost 40 years old, his sky hook was nearly unstoppable.
Now imagine the sky hook coupled with a very athletic body. Kareem was durable BECAUSE he was an incredible athlete. No one could stop Kareem in his prime and Olajuwon would have been no different.
Durable indeed but was never quick, especially the quickest. Oh and Wilt gave it to Kareem every time they played, look it up he blocks 2 sky hooks in a row! ouch! bottom line Olajuwon was better in all categories he just got beat up and triple teamed every play of his career, since he didnt have Magic, Worthy and company to bail him out. only player to win a title w/o another all-star on his team. the 2nd he had Clyde. Quadruple doubles! not Kareem not Bird, MJ whom all were on great teams.
This guy would dominate in ANY era. Bill Russell was great I bet, but against such a complete offensive player around the basket, it doesn't matter. He is for centers wat Michael Jordan is for shooting guards
There are no centers now. Shaq was the last real center. If a real center played now he would destroy this league. No matter what era he came from. Physically who in the league now could stand up to a 7 foot powerhouse. Garnett is soft and he dominates. Stop. Please stop.
if you all think about it logically, the nba and basketball skills in general have evolved and developed to a higher level from the start of the nba in the 1950's. you put all these old as players in lists when really you cant compare them. basketball and the centers that dominated the game back in the 50's and 60's and 70's were not at the level centers today are at. so stop comparing players that didnt play in the same time period! its irelevant
Think about it...Chamberlain played against Russell 6'10"...and thats not all games...Chamberlain always had the height advantage..Olajuwon played against guys like Shaq,David Robison,Pat Ewing, Kareem, the list goes and on..Olajuwon better...But I'd love to see Chamberlain play against other guys his size...to really see who was better
Yao is pretty good man. In Wilt's day they didn't have the 3-point shot, didn't have 3-seconds, (so they could just give it to the big man standing under the basket forever) and the talent level at every position was much lower because it was still mostly white guys (nothing against them) rather than some of the best players in the world.
mustyrusty - if the truth is making fun of jaqueline saburido, a women who suffered severe burns on her face in body, then yes, you are a piece of shit
On this vid - love this one even though I play foodball, I love to watch basketball!
Um, stop spewing names in your attempt to sound smart and just face facts... Hakeem is better than all of those you just named except Kareem. Oh, and Pettit was a power forward.
@CampusFox12 nope im sure his better than kareem if you talk about a complete center thats hakeem. he can block shots, post down low, shoot, pass, he has the agility and speed like no other center. on the other hand kareem could only score thats it.
willis reed nate thurmold and walt bellamy woulda got screwed so bad by the dream, especially bellamy, apparently the reason they called him bells was because he was soft and would ring the bell early so to speak
the most talented center ever to play the game... did you see that drive to the hoop from the three point line?! he's pulling off point guard moves... speed, agility, and all...as a center.. untouchable.
I haven't watched the video yet but I assume you're both talking about that block where KJ jumped up to dunk it and it almost looked like slow-motion, then Hakeem swoops by and floors his ass. Way better than KJ's dunk
One thing I think it's really funny about Hakeem is that he has the most beautiful post moves of any player in basketball history, but when he dribbles the ball all alone on a fastbreak, it looks like it's the first time he ever picked up a basketball..
Haha, that's actually true. I noticed that too:D! But the reason of his crappy dribblin' must be that he started to play so late. But in my eyes he's the best center ever.
I made this a year ago for mixmakers.net, and no, I didn't rip this from anyone.
I don't know who the reason is, or that he made a Hakeem video. Hell half the reason I made this was because I didn't know there was a Hakeem mix out there...I got all the footage myself and put this together.
You do realize that all the reasonsf3 did was take the Hakeem the Dream video that the nba released in 95, rip out the highlight clips in the same order and then add music to it.
The guy who made this at least had some talent.(I didnt make the video)

Kevin Johnson.
KJ was an all-star who averaged 20 points and 10 assists in three different years.
He has an equally amazing highlight on Hakeem. He dunked on him at the end of a Houston playoff victory.
Just do a google search for "KJ on hakeem" and you should find a clip.

The dream team was the U.s.a team which at the time consisted of players like MJ.

considering the fact that he was the second best player in the league for like more than 10 years he deserved "The Dream"....

It is hard for a 7 foot center to drible the ball on the fastbreak, that is easy for point guards but not big big centers like hakeem.
