Expert village is horrible for stretching...maybe you guys should take some anatomy classes or some therapeutic exercise classes and if you have done them do them again
These videos are supposed to help people, they are just stating that she is doing the stretches wrong. People want to watch these videos to learn how to stretch correctly and not hurt themselves
Another HUGE error here which is very alarming is that in the beginning of the video this woman states that the stretch will be, "warming up the back of the leg a little more....". This is wrong. Stretching is not..NOT a warmup. Stretching does not raise the core body temperature nor the muscle temperature. A warmup MUST be done BEFORE stretching and should consist of 5 - 10 mins. of LIGHT repetitive large(legs/glutes) muscle group activity such as walking. This prepares the legs for stretching.
@Rtystic Well...it's KINDOF a warm up. I mean...u have to stretch before u can do other martial arts tricks or running or somthin. I dunno, ur probobly rite but its just an assuption.
@MrJulianclove ....Yes, you have to stretch...but as i said, you need to warm up first. You don't warm up by stretching. You need to do (as I already mentioned in my previous post) move the legs in a repetitive motion for a length of time of about 5 to 10 minutes BEFORE stretching. A medium speed walk will accomplish this. To stretch properly and safely, stretching technique must be correct but a warm up which forces more blood into the muscles and (cont) >>
@MrJulianclove>> (cont) circulates synovial fluid into tissues around the joint must be performed BEFORE the stretching...hydrating the muscles. Stretching should be immediate after this warm-up. In colder temperatures a 12-15 minute warm can done prior to stretching.
Think of a dried out sponge that is devoid of water. When you bend/flex the sponge, it can break.
However, if you put the sponge into a bucket of water first it will flex very readily with no damage.
This demo is really poor. It is full of errors which can damage people doing it in this way. Never pull on the foot in this stretch and in fact the foot should be relaxed and not even 'flexed' at all. Pulling the foot loads other structures and can cause damage to the knee capsule. It also interrupts biofeedback of the hamstring. Further, her opposite(left) leg is pulled up far too much causing possible damage to the medial hamstr. of the right leg and/or tight lateral hams.of the right leg.
in addition, I've noticed a huge strain and lack of circulation on the muscles covering my shin which eventually led to a numb left foot while jogging after a short period. Would this have anything to do with your suggestions?
Is it a red and white blotchy patch or blue and white pattern??? That is called arterial stagnosis, could be a pattern to having a compartment syndrome. Check with a massage therapist or a physiotherapist, doctors can not do anything
you might have anterior compartment syndrome which means you have restricted fascia in the tibialis compartment. I am only a student of massage therapy but it sounds like you have the symptoms associated with it. Do you have pains when you have stopped running? But not so obvious when you are running
It was a dull pain that spread all over my calf making my foot and toes numb. It might have been because of the added intensity of my workout since I did stop for a time. I doesn't happen anymore. But that first week trying to regain my endurance was the most painful.
Stretching should never...EVER hurt..not during the stretches..not after...and not days after either. If you have any discomfort or pain during or after any stretching routine then you are stretching incorrectly. Your body as you said might, "get used to it" because scar tissue develops and the sense of pull doesn't get "felt" through scar tissue...but as that scar tissue builds up over years, the muscl ecan no longer perform it's function and hold the bone in place and joint problems develop.
damn shes fine

thanks but it hurts after i have worked out what do i do about muscle tightness the next day or should i do it before workout?

Keep doing it. It's like weight lifting. It'll leave you sore for a while but as you keep working at it your body will get use to it.
