Hi shawn, I've been watching your videos over and over and I am just starting to feel like things are starting to make sense. It was a video on release that especially made me feel what I was doing wrong and how I needed to swing instead. But it made me wonder, you say that you don't release the club until after impact, which makes sense, however, with your drivers and fairway woods where the ball is to your left, does that mean that release comes later in your swing versus an iron swing?
Hey Shawn! i have started using your swing technique with the heavy hammer and all of that, and i have excellent ball contact, although i have a tendency to slice the ball sometimes, especially with fairwaywoods. Help!
@unholybadge95 See 2 videos for this: "Swing plane update; shawn clement" and "Weak grip or strong grip" which will go very well with "Farm Hammer" Shawn
On December 24,2006 at 8 o’clock in the morning, a young 14 year old boy by the name of Scott Jackson was found dead.Doctors couldn’t come up with the cause of his death.His mother checked his emails to see if she could figure out what happened.Turns out he was still signed into myspace.She found he had gone to sleep after he read and didn’t repost a chain letter.if you don’t repost this to 6 videos a girl with no face will kill you tonight. sorry don’t wanna die
@BeauregardL Different strokes for different folks; but you should have a look at a few more of my videos before passing judgement; I have 215 to choose from right now...Scott's channel has none; so I don't know how to compare what he does vs what I do; or what he does to help the game apart from running his golf teaching business...
Shawn, Love your videos and I have your dvd's. Great stuff. I notice that you are not dipping your head with the fairway wood like you do with the irons. I think you called it a centripetal pump. I thought it was important to add power to the swing.
@pulpotomy well yes! What you are seeing here is from January 12, 2007! I learn and improve all the time as well! :) The 4 wood you see here is going 250; it is now going 265-270; and this is what the pump will do for most of my students; one club more in distance and a reduction in effort so it is easier to repeat;
Love your videos. Quick question. Your main focus in your other videos is in releasing energy and club out to the target and not worrying about the ball ot swatting at the ball directly. In this video you refer to the focus being on the skimming the ground. With the fairway metal (and possibly driver) do you still also focus on the target or is the main focus skimming the ground in front of the ball. Please help clarify. THANKS.
this guy is good, you know it always seems to happen that everytime I try and learn a new tip, I always seem to forget it on the driving range and end up trying to kill the ball
Thanks for posting this Shawn! Your videos are superb. I've learnt so much from your videos especially with the iron shots. I'm now working on my fairway woods and getting that consistent now. This video is helping me alot!
Thanks for the video, I'm actually revisiting them all at the moment as a refresher. That looked like the ball position was just inside your left foot, ive heard it should be 2-3 inches inside where the club bottoms out on the swing.
One thing that might confuse people is you DO NOT want the club to skip before it impacts the ball. It should directly after or while it's striking the ball
Very good point; so I will add that you can see this in my "golf pro lesson contact and spin" and "golf pro lesson compress through the ball" and "golf pro lesson through the ball"
Once again I seek your wisdom to correct one of my many issues. My question is, should the "skip of the sole" be before impact or after? I set up and swing it just like my driver with the exeption of ball position and I have been topping it alott. about 25 percent of the time. I really like to lay up to a yardage most of the time. I tend to only use my 3 wood for the T-box. But i would still like to have this shot in my bag. Thanks again.
great tip! but i was wondering, would this be the same for those awkward long irons such as the 2,3 and 4 iron as they are difficult and long like the fairway woods? cheers
I've been learning my game through your videos and my biggest issue is with hitting my 3 wood off the ground. I can hit my irons/hybrids really well but Im just terrible with this. I set the ball just in front of center with my club face right behind it. I have 2 outcomes
1) HUGE HUGE top spin so the ball flies with a low trajectory for about 15 yards and dips.
2) Hits and flies about 220 at mid traject.
1 being the majority of my 3 wood shots. please help! thanks for guiding me
Have a look at my "golf pro lesson through the ball" video and pay attention to the 2 ball drill; do this drill a few times with a short iron like the 9; then imagine that second ball out in front with the 3 wood, and make sure you get through the second ball using effortless and heavy momentum! (which will require you to finish the backswing) See "Golf Pro Lesson Stacked and Complete" for this;
Hi Shawn, I understand the concept of skipping the fairway club like stone on water. Given the choice between an uphill or downhill lie with a FW, which would be better suited to a FW? When my shot is downhill, I usually forgo the 3W for my hybrid club. But with an uphill lie, I'm worried about the front edge of the club grabbing the ground and not skipping. Is a fairway best suited for relatively flat lies?
Shawn, I notice that if my arms are not "taut" with a fairway wood, I hit some very nice shots with my 3-wood. I'm just letting the club skip along through impact. Am I imagining this? Is the "taut" arms not very important with a fairway wood?
take the centre of the club and place it in the centre of the feet(centre of your heels, not toes); then place the ball in front of that; it should be closer to your left heel if you are a right handed golfer;
Imagine throwing a frizbee and making it skip off the pavement, hard and far and effortlessly...you would be winding up with the whole body, then clearing the right side, then releasing the disc low and across the ground; same with the sole of your club heads!
Anyone ever play with people that use their 3 wood for every shot? Hehehehehehehehehe. When your 3 wood distance is like 45-75 yards... hrm... wow just buy a lesson already! =D
i love em

So don't hit down on a fairway wood? Because this is why I think I have so much trouble with them. I usually chunk to top my fairway woods.
