The only way I can see of doing that is to increase the repetitions which would increase the endurance energy system but inevitably leads to a plateau affect in the other energy systems that a prevalent Power Strength etc
@trainakiwi - working to time is, to a degree, about increasing reps, a useful way to create more work - work drives adaptation, NOT weight nor reps - the other way to create more work is increasing resitance, this is done with bands by moving away from the anchor point - the bands I use can be used for one rep max work if you want - the idea behind adpatation is variety with variety there is no plateau becasue adaptation demands are constant - variety means use everything well, including bands
Rugby isn't only about sustained power and power can only be sustained for a small period of time rugby requires all the different energy systems endurance power strength agility and they vary depending on which position you play. That workout seems to be a good basic all over workout it does contain some varying degree of Plyometrics which in itself promotes the use of power although the only problem I can see is the ability to increase the amount of resistance
@jamesflames75 After reading the banter between you two I have to agree with james on this one. Rugby is about sustained power. These exercises neither promote or sustain power, they promote stability. This may be what a 55 year old club rugby player needs to continue on but a young up and comer requires olympic lifting, interval sprints and functional dynamics. The impact of which would probably be detrimental to a 55 year old.
@biggernsurlier - fitness has many dimensions and needs change with age - I'm also training professional MMA fighters and ballet dancers with this equipment - why because we can work VERY sports specic movements- of course this isn't everything- it is however useful functional variety. This video was done in very early days look at some of the more recent stuff and you'll see some state of the art ideas, I worked a lot of rugby specific stuff into the GAMMA sessions- check it out
@biggernsurlier - BTW I,m 56 and played 80 minutes of 9 and 50 minutes at 6 two weeks ago - I was never an elite player - never fast - but I'm still not slow and I'm stronger than ever - that's smart variety and a lot of sports specific work, I don't train more than 40 minutes EVER, ususally less , three times a week max, besides practice, but I'm religious about variety. The detrimental impacts I take are on the field but I do lots of plyo as you'll see in the GAMMA sessions video
@jamesflames75 - I measure my strength on the field, where am I in practice, in games, am I making tackles ?winning rucks, contributing ? I still play 15s and 7s, and play every where from hooker to wing. Now I'm always slowly improving my fitness, I,ll be stronger next year than last, we'll see how long I can keep this up, I'm already told I'm the oldest fulltime competitor in Canada lol
@jamesflames75 - the routine is a full body routine , 20 minutes , that hits every major muscle group, every exercise requires abs to either stabilize or move, ditto legs, the session moves without rest from one opposing muscle group to the next , allowing a high continuous work rate, the pulling exercises at the end have helped me regain the speed of my 30's , I've rehabbed 2 knee scopes and 2 broken legs and 3 mcls etc etc, the resisted hip thrusts are more effective than swinging a KB IMHO,
@jamesflames75 - I,v posted a recent study on my fb page from McMaster uUniversity in Canada that finds strength is a function of total work, reps and weight are largely irrelevant. What this means is the most amount of work in the alloted time will provide the most adaptation, my practice is based on high work rate and variety works better than anything I,v tried and after 400 years of competition and rehab I'v tried alot, the science evolves, the art evolves it is the natue of things
@AVIVAspasante it only felt like 400 years lol 40 seasons of experience is the real deal James, training professional MMA fighters is the real deal as well, I'm not saying bands is everything, nothing is, but boy this is a tool that gives amazing variety and work rate and specific resistance in a functional range of motion that gravity just can't hit.
@jamesflames75 - the field is evolving that's for sure, for example you will find a link on my page to a study released by McMaster University in Canada that states that strength gains are a function of work, reps/weight are irrelevant, this means the most amount of work done in the allotted time = the greatest adapatation response, my point is create the greatest variety and highest work rate and you will get the best results. the most recent science supports this,
@jamesflames75 - James - your letters mean you have some knowldge not all knowledge. What is it specifically that you think is not useful, the resistance bands thenselves ? the exercises, the sequence ? I,ve been working with bands for four years now, I'm 55 still playing club rugby and getting stronger every year, so my personal experiene says this works. What i do on this video is very early days, better ideas now on facebook, my understanding is always improving as I'm sure yours is as well.
@jamesflames75 - hey buddy no need to be a hater, bands are great for strength and conditioning as are allmost all fitness tools. I,v come a long way in my thinking since this went up, I leave it up becuase it,s technically sound and it keeps getting major hits, if you go to the facebook page you will see me training MMA fighters with these tools and footballplayers, they are not the only tools these guys use but theyare part of the mix, they are, in fact, where the edge is.
I'm 30 (ex Football player) and going to play this coming spring for the first time ....i'm a little nervous but man i'm glad to see you are out there and have been for so long .... and i have to come to that wellness center one day ...my lady and i dream to open one someday.
excellent video. loved the simplicity of the equipment used, but how you were still able to get complex with the exercises. I play rugby and soccer, so I'm going to incorporate this 2-3 X week
Thanks, I've learned a lot more since this was published and will have more stuff published with in a few months.
My advice is get the covered bands and get the strongest resistances available make sure you use enough resistance in each exercise to fatigue after 8-10 reps. Check out the video on our channel "the basics " for pointers on how to use this equipment well.
that's great!!! i used to play rugby in the year 2005 and im planning to play again this year( not pro.. just amateur), but i have to work a lot on my gym to gain a descent physical condition first, to reduce the injury risk, great training video! congratulations!
Thanks Carlos, just getting started here, will have a website up soon , selling anchor systems , bands, instructional downloads and full workouts (both general and sport specific).
Everyone says they have the "best system" but I've never worked out with anything that can work so many muscles , so quickly and train athletic ability as well, check out the instructional video on our you tube channel for some tips on the basics, better material up within a month, check out "slastix" bands cheers

Row with the side step would really be killer if you put a band around your ankles and step so that you always keep tension on the band ,,,,,
