The greatest American poet of our time. The music was so moving. City Drops Into The Night is one of the greatest literary pieces of all time. Jim Carroll is THE man.

Thanx so much for this upload. I so remember seein' JC perform on Fridays. Takes me back quite a few years. RIP Jim, I love ya man!! Thanx again for the post!!
never realized how big Jim was . Back in the late 70's I use to eat breakfast with him in a Mac Donald's once or twice a week . he didn't talk that much about his career but I remember him as being very smart and a good guy . invited me to a party his publishers threw for a book he wrote . saw a few big stars there and then realized that he was big.
Every cassette tape I made (for driving) in the early 80s had this track somewhere on it. And it still looms LARGE as one of my favorite songs to this day. I love the awesome... Catholic Boy!!!
A big reason why "SNL" didn't have too many new wave or punk acts in the 1970's goes back to when Elvis Costello first appeared in 1977, when he stopped playing "Less Than Zero" and instead played "Radio Radio" which producer Lorne Michaels told him NOT to play. When Dick Ebersol told over in 1981, he had Fear on the show (at the insistance of John Belushi). But once they and their fans rioted on the stage, Ebersol pulled the plug on having risk-taking music acts on the show.
"Fridays" wasn't that great a show. Yet, they did have better music acts than "Saturday Night Live" did at the time. For some reason, "SNL" was very reluctant to put on new wave or punk acts on their show. "Fridays" was willing to do that. Too bad the comedy wasn't that great.
Yeah, it was that tight ass Lorne Michaels that pulled the plug on having any punk acts on SNL after Belushi got Fear to play. I agree, Fridays had way better live acts. I miss that show.
I had taped this off the FRIDAYS broadcast but my tape has degraded so bad it's worthless, so thanks for posting this, it's fun to watch again, especially the no chemistry between Jim and Amy!
Goodness .. remember Fridays.. such great bands and they sounded great. Saw all the punk and new wave stuff there.. that show definitely brought the L.A. to us here in New York(and probably had more New Yorkers in the cast than SNL!) R.I.P Jim Carroll.. dude was cool!
The album has classic! songs onnit and is historically interesting but is boring in comparison to others, it may save others lives, 'I could take it or leave it each time.'
Anybody know who he was singing with? Great song, great writer.
