I hope they offer philly a 1st rd pick for Donovan Mcnabb. I cant stand Mcnabb but hes a quality quarterback. Its not like the Browns 1st rd picks EVER pan out anyway so why not? Hes got a good 3 years left in him
It was Ronnie Harmon who dropped the pass in back of endzone on final drive. On the next play Clay Matthews picked off Kelly to seal the game. I was there
The bills (norwood I think) missed an extra point early in this game which turned out to be critical as it meant a FG was not enough from that last drive.
he did however, call the infamous Ahmad Rashad game back in '80 in which Tommy Kramer through a hail-mary to beat our beloved Browns. Unfortunately I will always remember him for that, as great as he was.
No, it was actually very late in the season 1980. The Browns could've clinched the division by winning that game, however when Minnesota defeated them in the last second, they had to clinch the following week in Cincinnati.
Another note: I think this was the LAST game Merlin Olsen worked for NBC. Olsen had spent most of the decade as the top color commentator for NBC, but had been demoted when Bill Walsh became available for the 1989 season.
Olsen moved to CBS in 1990 and apparently left broadcasting altogether by about 1993.
as a bills fan, this game was a heartbreaker. but as a football fan, it was one of the greatest game ever. yet, it's sadly forgotten. if they had a list of the 10 most underrated great games in nfl history, this one would be near the top.
@nrwilliams015: in truth the bills edged out a division title in the '89 season...they were 8-7 going into the final game of the regular season....buffalo was actually closer to the superbowl the year before this when they got to the afc championship against the bengals....still i think if the bills instead of the bengals had gone to superbowl xxiii, they would've been been routed by montana and the 49ers...(considering the bills lost to a giants team led by a backup qb in jeff hostetler)
I was born December '89 and these kind of playoff videos inspire me a lot i just cant wait in till the browns can get a divisional HOME playoff game some time here in the future. i cant wait till that day. GO BROWNS!
Not an easy catch at all. Makable but not easy. It takes a WR or TE to make that catch. Most RB's won't come up with it. Jerry Rice catches that one. But JR gets double teamed as well, so who knows?
I disagree in this situation. Ronnie Harmon made his living in NFL as a 3rd down back Catching the ball and not running the ball, so he should have caught it.
And Kevin Johnson, a starting wideout, "should have caught" that pass in the 2002 wild card playoff. No excuse, as the Browns would have iced the game. It was right there. Harmon had a pass that was dificult but not impossible. KJ had a gimme and dropped it.
Regarding the 1989 AFC divisional playoff, Browns DB Kyle Kramer dropped an INT right in his hands w/ nobody near. The Bills had a fumble negated by a premature whistle. The Bills had breaks in that game.
@bentron3030 the OLD BROWNS and the CURRENT BROWNS are the SAME team.

With apologies to Gowdy/Enberg, then later G. Gumbel and Nantz...the real all-time play-by-play voice of the AFC, in my opinion, was Charlie Jones.

This is the game where Don Beebe got upended and the ball popped up and picked off the Brown's Felix Wright... I think. Been a long time!
I also think this is also the game in which Thurman Thomas dropped a pass in the endzone...

Hmmmm... I think it was Thurmale, as I used to call Thuman.
I am almost certain Thomas droped one in the end zone in a loss to the Browns.
We will have to consult the record books to confirm.
Thanks!
