  • How were you able to get this close? Like with the bighorn sheep how did you know when to cut it off and not get closer? I understand that you can get pretty close easily, but is there really that much to be worried about when approaching things like bighorn sheep? How close have you been able to get to moose and elk in Glacier?

  • @MrFloppywaffles i move close very slowly and make myself visible from a distance so that I dont startle the animal.in national parks animals are around people a lot more, especially in the area I was in in the video.

  • Thank U ,good un-common,common sense, wildlife is a great challenge still practising at the Zoo ,which is great fun .....except 4 the fence wire ! Thanks 4 your effort!

  • this dude's shaking like he has a turn on somthing..hahah

  • Hey! This is pretty neat video! I love video that look like they are "Live" especialy in nature were the bees and flies are set free!!! Good work my friend and continue.... DanTheMan

  • I have liked and do appreciate what you are trying to do and applaud you for it but for your nature shots you need to get lower to get a better perspective.

  • first thing you need to do is to sell your NIKON and get a CANON body and L lenses!

  • @THEHAMM3T Why? Nikon has the 200-400! Nikons and Canons bodies are virtually the same. As for lenses, yes Nikon lacks in things like the 70-200 F4 for budget but Nikon has every wildlife lens Canon has plus what is likely the best, the 200-400!

  • Great stuff man!!!

  • this video made me have to pee

  • @xXspartan125Xx me too lol

  • There are very nice places where you go take pics-i am happy for you!

  • I feel sorry for the 66 dislikes. But anyway hats off for you efforts bro. All your videos are really great and helpful i have learnt a lot from your teachings. Thx a lot

  • haha ok so wtf are we to photograph in england aww :)

  • co on mówi ?

  • are u taking jpg's or raw?!

  • fantastic gallery. I like much

  • how close do you usually get to the wildlife, wolves and bears seem like they could attack you or something. id like to get into this type of photography but thats one thing I'm afraid of

  • @AustinAlexanderAW I have gotten pretty close to many large animals but that is rare and the animal comes to me if it gets close. I would never approach to close to a wild animal. In national parks wildlife is general pretty use to people (especially yellowstone and glacier national park). What ever you do you must stay calm when close to these animals and NEVER surprise them.

  • @AustinAlexanderAW They will attack you. you best stay at home in your room taking pictures of your wall... it's much safer!

  • Look, there were wildlife photographer before digital, before af-s lens, before 12,800 iso.. Here is a good exampl, look at F.Lanting book, "Okavango", edited in 1989. It's all made with nikon FE2, manual lens, no auto flash, and It's full of color, dynamism, flash + available light mix, it's terrific. I agree that big lense, afs and high iso helps, but you could also make very good stuff with simple gear. Lots of them used to say, It's all in there (pointing their head).

    (sorry am not english).

  • To be a good wildlife photographer, need a bit of talent (15%), a little more patience and lots of money to buy the best super-tele lenses and travel.

  • it's a refuge not a refugee.

  • @whitepowderbob that made me cringe soo bad when he kept saying it

  • you take some of the best photos i have ever seen. all the best from Australia.

  • In the bright sunlight the image always looks overexposed. Trust your metering you shall.

  • @TheHDFreak If you get a polarizing filter, you will cut down on the overexposure and will brighten the colors

  • do you have a back up? and if so what is it.

  • Kill the damn Bee !!

  • I disagree on the note that you saying " these wild-life photographers take great picture not because they are good but because they use good equipment ", the equipment plays 50 % role in the picture however I believe wild-life photography requires a lot of skill and determination, not every one can do it.

  • @snabilrizvi I am not arguing that it takes a lot of skill but longer lenses and faster cameras do help to get more wildlife shots that others with slower equipment can not.

  • @QQQQcon Yup I agree, I visited your website boy I was astonished, I'm thinking of getting some prints of the pictures that you've shot. Keep it coming =)

  • @QQQQcon Totally agree. I've had many cameras over the years and lenses - I know have a good kit (D7000 and some expensive glass) Has my photogrpahy got better, perhaps....have my pictures got better - yes because the lens and camera is just so much sharper and the DOF I can get now I couldn't get on my older lenses. I gave my Nikon D7000 and F2.8 70-200 to my wife and she took a series of fantastic professional looking pics of my son and I - she couldn't have done that with a £100 compact.

  • @QQQQcon The best camera equipment is the one that you have in your hand... thats all

  • @QQQQcon I can go outside and get 200 shitty photos, but I'd rather just have a dozen of good photos.

  • @snabilrizvi : he didn't say that. He said that was one of the things amongst a list of other things: 0:15

  • @snabilrizvi True but I don't see anyone taking pictures with a 18-55 kit lens..do you?

  • @snabilrizvi Simply put if you have perseverance and interest. The better the equipment the better the shots lol.

  • @QQQQcon

what lens did u use most of the time for shooting animals?

im considering of buying a D7000 with 70-200 F2.8 VRII

does it have enough reach? or should i attach a teleconverter too?

btw, your photos in ur website are REALLY impressive, especially the portrait of an owl.

    WOW

    Im definitely into wildlife.

  • @DVL1507 nikon 70-200mm and 1.7x teleconverter. The teleconverter is a huge help.

  • @QQQQcon whats a teleconverter?

  • @jimvuraot04 you can add it to the back of professional telephoto lens and it multiples the focal length, mine is a 1.7x teleconverter so when attached to my 70-200mm it turns it into a 120mm-340mm lens. It also affects f/stop for ex. it changes an f/2.8 lesn to f/4.5

  • @QQQQcon whats f/stop for x? and if i hook it up on my 70-300mm f4.5-6.5 will the apenture will stay the same or it will change aswell?

  • @jimvuraot04 you can only use teleconverter on pro level telephoto lenses like the 70-200mm and the very expensive super telephoto primes.

  • @QQQQcon you can get a pro 300mm f/4 for about a grand . . . which is cheaper than the 70-200mm f/2.8 VR!

  • wicked video, really enjoyed it

  • 2:38 scared the fucking shit out of me!

  • How many pictures do you sell a month?

  • How successful are you in photography? Great shots but are you able to make a living off of just that? I'm curious because I'm 17 and I'm thinking about going into photography in the future after college and would eventually(7-15 years) like to make a living off of it. Thanks in advanced.

  • @fablecio No I dont make my living off of just my pictures. I make most of my money running workshops and through youtube.

  • @fablecio It's very hard to make a living through photography... much like the music industry...

  • What are the things at the end of the lens called?

  • @2:38 It felt like fly in my ear.!

  • Wow! this is really amazing. I really want to be a wildlife photographer when I grow up. I've always loved Animals and Nature<3 Great job!

  • Damn, not much work where your at huh??? We actually have to work at getting close to our critters, seems you just walk right up to them!! lol . . . you take a mean picture though!

  • I like your photos, they are really good on the website.

  • I watched this video with my headphones on and at 1:20 I thought I had a Bee in my right ear !!! lol

  • @pjos111 try 2:40

  • the bug scared me... lol

  • Thanks alot!

  • I'm impressed but i don't get the darkness you put on your videos?! Is this some economical idea?

  • @1aMattes that was a mistake. I kept the exposure of the video camera constant and then a bunch of clouds passed over and darkened the scene a lot.

  • Lost count of how many time you said wildlife lol. Great video, I wish there was a place like this in the UK

  • @rorycophotography there is...the lake district

  • Wow! I wish I could see the results. Do you have any of the pictures on a website?

  • @jackies35 yes, there is a link in the discription or on my main page

  • I WANT TO GO TO YELLOWSTONE SOOOO FRIGGIN BAD SO I CAN HOWL WITH WOLVES AND PRACTISE WILDLIFE PHOTOGROPHY !!

  • great shots, I love the night shots of cactus ant the colours in Yellowstone.

  • Your photos are a-mazing.

  • here in Germany around berlin there are no animals^^ onely some pigeons and ants -.-

  • I have a problem or dilemma ... I have the Nikon D60 but i want to upgrade my Body... I am thinking about the D300s or D7000 The D7000 is a new consumer product with new sensor, more mega pixels ...

But the D300s is part of the professionel nikon products: better weather sealing more durable, ...

    what would you choose

  • @RubenCraninx the d7000 is the best choice

  • @RubenCraninx I'd say that the nikon d300s is the better choise, i got one my own and u dont need any more mega pixels the 300s is really enough! And the body is much better in your hand and as u say your self its a professional camera. Its REALLY great!!!

  • @heppemil well at the moment the D300s is my number 1. is saw it next to the d7000 and the body is no bigger than my D60. As I am in aviation and sports photography i am often in the "big" lens category,so a bigger body would come in handy :D

Postive of the D7000 would be D-movie autofocus (as nikon says) but i haven't seen much of that ...

  • Hi...I've just visit your website...you are a good photographer my friend..keep it up

  • Good work! I'll keep looking for more...

  • just visited ur website. keep up the gud work. u r an excellent photographer. god bless

  • I went to your webside to take a look of your pics. and let me tell you, I like them very much those pics. are awesome.

  • i like big lenses ;)

  • LOL was that a fly on the mic?

  • @martinaee HAHAHAHAH!!! i was looking for any comment about the fly. LOL!

  • i live in arizona too :D

  • another animal stalker...

  • Чё он всё время прыгает? Негры рядом? Или в ушах неотключаемый рэп?

  • Good tips. Thanks.

  • Your tutorials are really good. You explain yourself well and get your point across in a very humble manner. I plan to enroll in college for photography very soon and your videos have helped my confidence in many ways. Thank you. If I have any questions in the future, I hope that you would lend an ear and a little of your knowledge. Thanks again. Good Luck to you on your shoots.

  • hold on, I need to take a piss

    trygghet.tryg.no/historie/147/Maria-Skarpaas-Andersen-Trygg-oppvekst

  • that fly is annoying!!!

  • Great! Thanks!

  • nice pics on your website man. good work !

  • and where are your photo examples??? :(

  • @Mrljohnl go to my website

  • Oh my gosh your photos are incredible :O

  • Hey! I'm just now starting and i was wondering wht you think about the nikon d5000 which is what i like and i would buy a 50-200mm

  • Im about to buy a camera as well, and i`am considering the Nikon D5000 for my starter camera. What do you think abouut that? With also a 55-200mm Zoom lens.

  • lol wildlife refugee!!!

  • i think that you can't really capture "wildlife" with just a 70-200mm

  • @MusicScoutMunich thats true. I have a 1.7x teleconverter too.

  • @QQQQcon Well, it's not true :) You can get close to the animals, if you have time.

Search this: "2010 Digital Photo Expo: Joel Sartore" in Youtube!

    :D

  • @QQQQcon What 'wildlife' lenses would u recommend for a beginner with a Nikon D60

  • I love your video! Thanks you for the tutorials!!

  • hi man, i'm about to buy a camera but still i'm sure, i'm just beggining and i'm thinking about Nikon d3000, what you think???

  • @xtobal28 it is a good starter camera

  • @xtobal28 thanks ...and Nikon d5000, as well as to record in HD and have 2 more megapixels, what else does make it better???

  • @xtobal28 i meant has, sorry

  • @xtobal28 i have the d5000, its a great for beginners for the price and the quality, its has alot of preset modes, so u dont have to figit with apetures/iso/and f/stops, itll teach u eventually how to do ur own manual mode. it came with the 18-55, which i liked, its good for scenery and portraits, not bad at close up. then i got the 55-200 vr-great price for a telephoto lens. but then i got the 35mm 1.8 prime lens awsome lens for beginners for 200$ i suggest atleast the 35mm awsome lens

  • @xtobal28 D3000 any time bud , far better cam

  • I know you live in america, but if you ever get a chance you should go to scotland some of the national parks there are amazing to see dears and stags =)

  • Great video, I love your photos in link.I saw wonderful pict of lightning storm. Can you please tell me how did you take a pict of lightning storm, what settings ? Thanks. Please go to my profile and watch my video.. Thanks

  • @TheBmwman94 you have to use bulb and take the pics at night so you can just hold down the shutter until lightning strikes.

  • Good videos, bud, just calm down a bit. You seem either extremely nervous, you have to go pee and want to get done with this quickly - haha. Keep it up!

  • good work done

    Regards,

    Narsing

  • get a hd cam man

  • i checked out your website and found a lot of nice shots. There's just one (tiny little) thing, that i didn't like that much, and that was the high level of saturation.

But anyway. Nice Work man! And thank you for sharing this with us!

  • your photos are medicine for the eyes.

    good work.

  • Great video!

    Do you got Flickr?

  • @OlliTheAwesomeone yes I have a link on my main page.

  • Thanks for the VIDEO dude.....

  • i love all those pics on your flickr gallery! Thanks for taking such a lot of great pictures :)

  • relax man.. ur tutorials are good..

  • what's that wildlife refuge near Mexico you are talking about?

I live near Nogales so i would like to know.

  • @marioskii buenos aires wildlife refuge

  • @QQQQcon Thanks, ill try to go. Hopefully i will get some good shots.

  • you take great photos

  • I appreciate video's like this, Thanks.

  • video is too dark >_>

  • What lense is attached on your nikon? I won't be supriced if you tell me it's a $800 lense:P

  • @SecretMisery That is a Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8. It actually retails for around $2,000. It is an absolutely excellent lens though.

  • Good vid, but I think I counted 253 times the word "Wild Life"

  • @nglstudios Well I dont have any notes or people holding up what I have to say so Its hard to talk the whole video perfectly.

  • in ny theyre trying to close the parks isnt that nice??

  • please help me out i really want t o be a wildlife photographer but i m not sure wat education i should get??

is it arts??? or wat please help

  • Am I wrong in sensing a slight bit of resenment towards the pros who have the time, the money, the detinations AND are good with cameras? lol thanks for the vid! :D

  • @MrHavoc333 no, it is just the truth. It is the same with me as well, i travel alot more than many of my fellow classmate photographers so I get more pics than they do. Their is no doubt that the pros are extremely skilled and many would not be able to get amazing pics like they do. .

  • You talk more about the place/landscape rather than the camera settings. You should have discussed what setting is good for the particular time of the day to get the most out of the camera. Like set it to cloudy, vivid +2 or +3, glare filtering stuff etc. and create a beautiful picture that comes out straight from your camera. You got 2 out of 5 rating for this one, but I gave you 4/5 for the other camera tutorials.

  • @vividself This video was just made as an overview. I havent gotten around to making a more detailed review on camera settings yet. And in my opinion finding the wildlife is the most important part to wildlife photography. the settings are no good if you cant find the wildlife. Either way this is an intro vid.

  • do you have a website?

  • @pizzabas yes there should be a link in the description/

  • wers the tutorial???????? damn!!

  • hey i love your website design i also have a smugmug but i think you need to add the metadata. really nice pic though what editing program do you use?

  • I dont edit my photos.

  • really? wow thats amazing how good of photos you get

  • I love your pictures... I have a D5000 Just got it yesterday.. I have a question... In which mode do you take your pictures... Manual, Auto..? and how do you do to have sooo vivid colors? I really like that! Congrats on your work! hope you can answer

  • Mostly manual mode, I us jpeg with the picture control settings set to vivid. It brings out the contrast and color of a scene unlike raw which you need to post process. It gets me the color that photographers using velvia 50 film get.

  • Your photos on your website are amzaing, 2 thumbs up! and wanted to ask what camera do you use? and what lense? thanks :D

  • I just upgraded to a nikon d3 and use a 14-24mm and 70-200mm with 1.7x tele on the camera.

  • I own a superzoom, but despite my lack of gear, will this work for me? Because I don't know if taking pictures of wildlife with my point and shoot won't work for me. I own a powershot SX20 IS

  • yes that will work. Capturing fast animals will be near impossible though because compacts are very slow compared to dslrs.

  • @QQQQcon,

DSLR is ONLY faster if you dont need to change lenses.

  • I disagree. I would rather change a lens and still have a speedy camera than use a camera I can only take 1 or two pics every few seconds with.

  • @biscuitbub123,

Yeah! Im sure you can change lenses faster than i can take photos on my bridge camera................not! I would like to see you attempt to travel around as fast i have hiking in mountains and jungle carrying all your lenses and camping equipment. And my bridge camera does have high speed shooting mode which suits me fine

  • just my opinion. pros use these cameras for a reason.

  • Comment removed

  • im olympus at the mo but im upgrading to something like the nikon d300 or te canon eos 5d..... what do u suggest?

  • d300 for speed, 5d for still life and landscape. The 5d is a pain to use though.

  • i Would say D300 to, not only for speed but its much better at high ISO. Among many things.

  • id have a look at the Canon 7d.

  • 3:42, LOL.

    Anyway, very well.

  • what camera bag were you using??

  • a tamrac velocity 8x

  • i just went to your website and your photos are AMAZING!!!!! keep up the good work

  • @LQskate he is just as good as the lightroom

  • Comment removed

  • Following your advice on your videos has helped me make quite a few good decisions.

Today for example I went out and bought a 70 - 200m mm f2.8 nikon lens.

    I already own a 24- 70 f2.8 lens as well.

So from what I figure all I need to do is get the 12-24 and I should have a good selection for landscape, portrait or wildlife ...generally.

Keep up the good work, you are a great inspiration for a heck of a lot of photographers.

    You are a great teacher.

  • 70-200 f2.8

  • What kind of lens do you have???

  • @HunterBigfootJR pretty sure he has like 20 lenses....

  • pretty sure I have two.

  • You are a good speaker, but just relax more. :)

  • @TejasM14

    haha! he's cute

  • hey do you enter you pics in contests

  • Good video, but if you think you are short on of wildlife in the US you really have an amazing amount of it compared to the U.K.

Over here we have Dogs cats sheep cows pigs goats....he! he! only joking ! but we dont get any of the big wild animals you have .

  • up in the scottish highlands there are amazing shots to be had

  • good job.

when you fast forward the video you see the clouds moving so fast as if it has been composited lol

  • Great Video I loved what you had to say, but I couldn't help but laugh when you said wildlife refugee, its refuge with one e. Oh well I guess these things happen, keep up the great videos.
