  • Does anyone know if this thing can manual focus during video mode? Also, does it have mic input? Thanks

  • My G11 is amazing with it´s tiny sensor, I just can imagine what this beast can do.

For those of us who prefer manual control with physical buttons nothing compares to the Canon G´s in the non-DSLR world.

  • 24fps? i though with this price we will have ALL.. so it should just be 500euro not more !

  • Got mine a week ago, damn this camera is nice. It produce a similar image feel that I got when I was using 5D2 + 24-105 lens. Of course, it is not going to beat 5D2's iso performance, but damn, this is nice for a camera/lens of this price.

Costly? Yes, it is, but check out other cameras with similar specs, it's either bigger (NEX-5) or more costly (GX1/NEX-7). To me, this is a great middle point, and pretty much at the limit of still being classifed as "easy to carry" camera.

  • Apple ad!

  • This camera looks old-fashioned

  • I'm watching a Apple video or Canon video?? haha

  • GIVE US THE **** 5D MARK III!!!!

    nice camera though....

  • looks attractive :O

  • Hey Everybody! I´m new on youTube and my videos are about photography and cameras too. Please check out my cannel! Thanks :)

  • if youre looking for a large sensor compact get the fujifilm x100. it has a larger aps-c sensor and a fast F2 prime lens (prime lenses normaly give way behter results. + viewfinder is ALOT bether

if you want a small interchangable lens camera then i would get the olympus e-p3 or the panasonic lumix gx1 . they are both micro four thirds cameras and you can use the "legendary" panasonic 20mm 1.7. manny people say its the best ultra small prime lens they have used

  • @MrPlaystationboy Why can't we people who want a compact zoom plus large sensor get our wish? Prime is nice, but zoom is easier to use in day to day use.

  • This looks like my ideal camera!

  • x100 can easily kick its ass

  • @vivianyeap X100 doesn't zoom.

  • @zycamaniac i c a fixed lens as a advantage, better image quality n help u visualize the image before u take the shot

  • @vivianyeap how does a prime lens it help you visualize better than a zoom before you take a shot? A prime is nice, but zoom is far more versatile for daily use.

  • @zycamaniac After using a fixed lens for a while, you become intimately familiar with its field of view without having to look through the camera. Since you already know what fits as you walk around, so you can start seeing your compositions in your head as you move about. i agree with u that zoom is convenient for daily use, but u just wont think though before u shot

  • @vivianyeap They are called prime lens, and I know them, Ilike them, and I have a few of them too. And yes, you will know the field of view so well, that you won't even bother to pick the camera up for shooting anything other than a few items or a few people.

Also, you can set G1 X to skip to equilvent 28/35/50/85/100/112mm focal length, so if you feel the need to restrict yourself at a fixed focal length, you can too, take your pick. :P

  • 我靠,G12的两倍价格,这也太高了吧?等降价。

  • I don't see any value in this product, it's 2x the price of the G12!

  • I dislike how every new advert seems to be directed by apple.

  • Humble Powershot sx150 has a more dignifying appearance. I wish it had better glass. I was looking forward to upgrade into "G13". GX1 is so ugly only a professional photographer would love.

  • i think great improvement from the g12. still the camera is ugly. but i camera is good what the heck with the rest. but price will be higher that the g12 and i mean a lot higher.

  • it sounds good but only 24 frames per second hd video? thats pretty rubbish and the body looks hideous, think fuji has the edge on canon in this particular market...

  • just pre-ordered on B&H. thanks!

  • Fuji ftw...

  • No thanks - I'll stick to my Fuji X100. I had a G9 and G10 & would never go back to Canon.

  • Canon needs to fire their Design Dept. That is the ugliest camera I've seen in a while.

  • @linkedit its fucking hideous :P but still a good alrounder

  • Waited G13 for almost 18 months, and now we got this G1X... very expensive, now I can't decide if I want to buy a G12 or this G1X. I previously owned a G11 that performed superbly in almost everywhere I go but later stolen.

  • At the beginning, before i could see who was talking, i thought it was a woman...

  • Quite disappointed with Canon's moves. Come on Canon! When will you release a micro four-thirds camera?!?

  • They keep going on about its huge sensor. It isn't a huge sensor, it's 20% smaller than a Canon APS-C sensor which itself is much smaller than a standard APS sensor. It is almost the same size as a 4/3 sensor, without the benefits of a fast lens, small size and interchangeable lenses. Despite that, because I like the way Canons generally work,I think if Canon had made the lens f1.8 or even f2 at 28mm and something like f3.5 at 112mm, they'd have a winner despite the crappy viewfinder.

  • @mucalinda You mean making it weight twice as much or more to get that extra stop or so of apeture would make it a winner? Think of the weight difference between zoom lenses with large aperture and ones with smaller aperture. I got G1 X here for a week or so, and I personally don't fancy one that weights twice as much, or with even larger lens that protrude even further or larger diameter.

Think of it, making G1 X the same size as NEX-5N + kit zoom... that would really put me off.

  • i want one!

  • I do love my DSLRs but this would DEFINITELY be my choice for a compact :)

  • Looks like a really good camera. The price is a bit of a shock though when you consider the T3i is in the same ballpark. Love the layout and look.

  • :( i want you, canon.

  • f/2.8 is too slow. Also fixed lens. Might as well get a Sony NEX or Olympus/Panasonic m43 camera for way more flexibility.

  • Unfortunately, the Canon Powershot G6 has a much better lens. f/2.0

  • Canon Powershot G6x would be a much better and more accurate name for this camera. It's basically an updated Powershot G6 with a much larger sensor, better video mode, faster processor, the same style lens cap, very similar body design and shape, ergonomics etc. I own the Poweshot G6 and I have using the Canon G series since the G5. Just compare the Powershot G6 with G1 X. The Powershot G6 is the best of all of the Canon G cameras for image quality, ergonomics, image and lens quality.

  • i am new to camera's and such so i just wanted to ask can you change the lens of this cam ?

and no i didnt watch the vid i am goin to watch it now :D

and is there a better camera out there ?

  • @SalehsTech no, you can't change the lense, it's a zoom lens though. there are definitely better cameras out there, but it depends very much on how good you are at taking photos and what you want from a camera. try asking your local photography shop what could be a good deal for you, they usually know there stuff and are eager to help.

  • @Tinewashere

thnx bro but i want a camera a professional one like the SLR kinds they say that pro ppl use it and i want to get to bein a pro with the new 2012 camera's and i dont want it to be more than 600-800 euro so plz can u suggest anythin?

  • Cool compact.

  • Really bulky for a compact camera. The sensor is not that big compared to the mirrorless cameras coming out now,. nearer the size of 3/4 sensors than an APSC. Terrible evf. A real disappointment to me.

  • Good. My G10 needs updating.

  • Finally a compact camera with a APS Sensor!!!

  • I got the powershot g12 for gcse photography in october 2010, its great.

so they decide to bring out a g1 x?

you have got to be fucking kidding me..... they just did an apple.

  • @mau5virus Same here, got the G12 for Christmas after reading all the good reviews (and it is indeed a brilliant camera) and then almost immediately they announce this! xD But then I suppose it's not that bad, after all it's not just the kit but the person composing and taking the shot that dictates how good a photo is and I'm sure you could get some equally good results with either models if you know what you're doing! :)

  • @jaMMerZzz764 Previously owned a G11 that I loved the most ever for a camera. Unfortunately, it was stolen! I bought a S95 and decided to wait for Canon G13. Now I am actually considering to buy a G12 because of G1X's price tag.. .nearly 80% higher than G12... it's a hard choice... Now I am leaning toward G12 again. I think it's not fair to compare G12 and G1X because two cameras are in totally different leagues..

  • @CHARLIETWW That's a good point actually, they may both be part of the Powershot series but the price difference and the improvements to the sensor and processor would suggest that they are quite different in terms of performance. I chose the G12 because it was just within my price range and was still good for both full manual features and point-and-shoot. I've actually been able to out perform my dad's EOS 500D in some situations! It really depends on your price range I think :)

  • @mau5virus No, they did not. It has always that frequency of 1 to 1.5 years. They started in 2000 with the G1, and now we have the 11th version (g4 and g8 don't exist). Best compacts ever, and SUPERIOR to those Nikon rip-offs.

    Must...Buy...One....aaarrgh...

  • @mau5virus why not upgrade to an DSLR? 60D or some thing..

  • 28mm is hardly wide angle on a sensor that size, it's probably about equivalent to a 50mm lens on a full frame 35mm.

  • @ajuk1 I think it is 28mm equivalent (meaning the field of view equivalent to a 28mm lens in 35mm)

  • @bobmilkman1017 They don't say that though do they, they say it's 28mm not 28mm eqv.

  • @ajuk1 No it's actually 35mm film equivalent: 28mm-112mm, just copy it from canon site.

    Same as my G12 28-112mm....

  • Canon have blatantly tried to rip Apple off with this video.

  • is this better than Rebel T3i ?

  • @nawaryoussef1 Define better? It is smaller better. You can't change lenses, so it wont compete with a 17-50/17-55 and t3i optically. If you just stick with the kit lens (so they are similar price wise) you will be close in the daytime, but the t3i will beat it as night. Also you will have a larger depth of field with the t3i.

  • @nawaryoussef1 No you can't put a wide aperture lens on it which restricts your ability to increase the amount depth of field and the amount of light, you'd need an interchangeable lens camera for that not necessarily a DSLR.

I am impressed that manufactures seem to finally be waking up to the fact that you need a bigger sensor rather than more megapixels to increase the image quality in a compact and also it seems to have a proper viewfinder.

  • @nawaryoussef1 That depends on the lens the T3i is paired with. The kit lens for the T3i has a shorter range and takes longer to get the same exposure because it has a smaller aperture(lets in less light). Put on a mid range or professional lens, and it beats the G1 X easily in terms of image quality. However, just comparing the T3i with a kit lens, you'd get better overall performance and use from the G1 X.

  • The Canon G7,8 and 9 all had a design flaw, where the retraction of the lens sucked any dust particles present into the body of the camera, and straight onto the sensor. I had a G9 that was continuously plagued by this error in build. I wonder if they have bothered to iron this out yet.

  • @gpezun as bigger the pixels as more light is captured and thus the sensitivity increases. A bigger sensor with reasonable number of pixels is a good base for great pictures. We have to wait for the real tests - and yes we do unterstand the physics involved :-)

  • Wait a moment guys. There is a ratio between pixel count and sensitivity. The bigger the pixel the larger the sensor must be to capture an image, hence "A larger sensor" to accommodate sufficient number of pixels. But if the the pixels can be made more sensitive, The pixels do not necessarily has to be bigger. WHAT WE GET INSTEAD IS BETTER ZOOM. Stop asking for bigger sensor, I you do not understand the physics involved.

    PS. do not flame me.

  • I am a Canon fan my self. I own a Canon 500D with 15,1MP and I assume you know that if you squeeze more MP on a smaller sensor the pixels get smaller and smaller that in it self is not good. I would hope that this camera would have 10MP and a very good low light functionally. That´s my 5 cent. Looking forward to see some performance test!

  • my dream comes true!

  • I like the trend of ever larger sensors in compact cameras, in a few years full frame?

  • @misund007 you can count on that!

  • @misund007 Leica already has full frame in a quite compact camera for some time, but yes it costs as 1D :)

  • @DMINATOR Yeah I'd sooner have a gold plated diamond encrusted swatch than a digital Leica.

  • @ajuk1 Why not to have both :)

  • awesome - this is what I've been waiting for!

  • I don't have this camera...

  • I want!!!!!!!! And ill buy it!!! ;-)

  • Come on, to many MP. for such a small sensor! Wonder how it will work in low light?

  • @peturstefansson the 600d has 18mp on a slightly larger sensor, i have to say that it isn't "too many megapixels". It will do great with that sesor size and resolution.

  • @peturstefansson

    why to many mp?

this sensor is almost as big as Canon's Aps C sensors

  • @peturstefansson To many MP? 14 on that size of sensor is just fine.

  • @boristrap yeah its got almost the same size as the 600d but it got 18 so i also think this is just fine to!.

  • Don't compare to 1Dx, I'm poor enough at this moment.

  • Nice
