  • i care :D

  • 28 fools must be red sox fans.

  • What is a westchester accent?

  • He has the accent down, I lived in manhattan and just recently moved to the poconos and everyone is always telling me I have a very distinct accent. I hadn't even noticed that I had one

  • Italian, jewish/eastern european etc. immigrats to NEW YOIK contributed the "dis"-es, "dat"-s and "tree"-s because they cannot pronounce the "TH" sound e.g. "8th', "though", thought etc.

  • most insightful video ive seen in all of my youtube life. good job.

  • i'm from Chicagoland (aka....Chicago) and our accent is a bit different....think of al capone...there is our accent. Nah i'm kidding we have a difficult to define accent with Midwestern influence and Big eastern influence.

  • @2fast4uspartan actually Al Capone probably had a Brooklyn accent since he grew up here and lived here until his 20s lol

  • Very helpful. I'm going there for a a month next summer, so I might not stick out as much.

  • No wonder people say that am not from NY cause I have a long island accent so in NY they say coffee but in long island we say cawfee

  • Actually this helped me, because i am making a project about American language and accents

  • Does somebody know the show "The Nanny" ??? Miss Fine also has a New yorker, new jersey- something accent! I just love it!

  • He's right, I'm using this as a guide for a role. :) Thanks pal

  • i realised that there was new york accent when i saw robert deniro on SNL!! baahahah so then i came on yutube (not literally) and typed in new york accents lol and yep!! robert deniro FTW!

  • definitely from Manhattan because he talks so bloody fast..

  • take it eaaaasy

  • Exactly how I talk haha

  • Good video, it is well explained. I think this is generally the New York Accent, there are other types of NY accents but I believe THIS is the much more common accent. =D

  • Half Staten Island half westchester; how do you even figure that out?

  • Brooklyn and Staten Island have the same accent

  • Where'd you go at 1:25 lmao :) anyways I think the new york accent sounds cool .

  • ahhh youtube of 2006....back when people made helpful, useful blogs.

  • @DeadIslandTrailers nostalgia blablablabla

  • Accents are like colours that mix gradually so when the English swallowed up the Dutch colonies of NY, those ppl had to commerce in Anglo/Dutch which left its mark. Then you have the 13 colonies being filled with indentured labour & transportees of mainly Celtic origin, which, along with waves of Irish immigration left the biggest stamp on the NY accent.

All accents can be worked on & coloured by the speaker & every accent has its gutteral counterpart as spoken by low quality folk.

  • haha weschester sucks at football people think that the hood is soo great and we were intimidated and my north team won 21-0

  • is similar to the british accent but faster and vulgar

  • The NY accent is not a proper accent its nothing like the original yankee accent its become an industrial accent distorted by immigration and not too pleasing on the ear i might ad but absolutely perfect for swearing with. My idea of a gr8 accent is when you connect to a call centre and your greeted by a soft Irish or Scottish its instant chat up mode but when i think of New York im sorry i just cant get past Nancy Spungen

  • @stiffex Too bad when you think of New York you couldn't at least think of punctuation.

  • he's pretty attractive for an asian I gotta say.

  • I lived in new York city my whole life and never met somebody who talks like that!

  • @zsdg34 I lived there for a couple of months a while back, brooklyn - people sounded like that

  • LOVE this video!! Idk why, it is great though.

  • there's a ghost in the thumbnail

  • @planeman2233 he didnt say he was from nyc he was saying how they talk...so you and your little flyboy faggots can go back to buttfucking

  • @planeman2233 shut the fuck up you fuckin cock suckin prick! The fact that you even THINK you have the right to say shit to him because he's asian shows that you are a retarted ass bandit.

  • @planeman2233 Are you stupid. You are probably not from NY if you think we don't sound like that. And I should add that NY is one of the most multi-racial states everywhere, so yes there are Asians here, dumbass.

  • This. That. The Other Thing.

  • Thank gosh he's not doing that stupid sterotypical mobster accent.

  • People! Check out the World Wide Accent project!! then you will notice that NO TEENAGERS HAVE ACCENTS ANYMORE!!!!! the romantic deep south accent is gone, the edgy new england accent is gone, the cool new york accent is gone, the funny alaskan accent is gone!!! Now we ALL, or should I say ALL of our youngsters sound like like phony Californian weaklings, in speech they learned from those wretched hollywood teen flicks! Oh america! please come back!!

  • @pakk82 Not true. Many young people have been homogenised by the media but many still have regional accents, they're just not as distinct as they once were. I live in New York and plenty still have the accent, just not as many as before.

  • When I lived in new york I didn't even notice the accent. Now when I go back there it sounds so weird to hear people talk.

  • You did awesome describing their accent. I'm not from New York but I was told to have a New York accent. Now I finally know why! You told it all. =)

  • I'm a born and bred New Yorker and I went to a different state with a few of my friends who were also from New York. None of us thought we had an accent or at least we didn't realize we did until people from the state we were in started pointing it out. Then when I got back to New York I started to pay close attention to the way the average New Yorker spoke. Everybody has a certain accent. You can say your a New Yorker and you don't have an accent but trust me, you do.

  • Seriously dude who says "tree" instead of "three" these days?

  • Im from New York......I don't have an accent like that :/ at all

  • @Superspaceify

were your parents from new york? I had a friend whose parents were from chicago and he pronounced a lot of things chicago style. If your parents are not from NY then you may have their accent, or a mix of NY and theirs

  • Thanks man I have nailed every American accent their is but new york now all I have to do is get German down........,crap

  • Most of the USA hate east coast accents..and I don't blame them.. it's fucking annoying.

  • @AgrivatedKillah It's called jealousy.

  • @Izakokomarixyz Nobody is jealous of the east coast at all.

    For what?

So an opinion makes someone jealous?

I guess if I think hitler is a good man, and you don't, that makes you jealous.

    Smh.

  • @AgrivatedKillah

    Reasons:

    1. NYC is the most famous city and most visited.

    2. Walt Whitman, Barbara Streisand, Franklin D. Roosevelt,Theodore Roosevelt, George Pullman, etc. all from NY

    3. Broadway, Major Parades, Best Pizza (besides Italy), Best Bagels

4.Melting pot (you can find any culture here without a lot of racism)

    5. North east has the best school systems in America

    6. America's rich live here

    7. Major modeling agencies are all here (can you find them in Wisconsin?)

  • @TastyPlainPizza

Nobody cares about Franklin D Roosevelt or Theodre.

Lol @ Melting pot you can find without racism?

That's funny seeing as italians, and russians and a lot of groups of people who reside there are racist.

North East Has the best school systems in America? [Maybe Some]

Americas rich live there? I thought most of Americas rich lived in the West[California]

Who gives a damn about modeling?

  • @AgrivatedKillah @Nobody cares about Theodore Roosevelt?

Oh, really? So you would rather burn up in global warming?

He helped end cronyism in political offices, attacked railroad trusts, built up a sizable Navy, negotiated the end of the Russo-Japanese War, got the Panama Canal built, and he was a visionary conservationist that set aside vast tracts of land for conservation and established the U.S. Forest Service via the American Antiquities Act of 1906, which he enabled.

  • @TastyPlainPizza

I find it funny you try to bring up racism, because outside of those parts, it's strictly white in a great deal of areas.

Like Maine,New Hampshire, Vermont...diverse my ass.

  • @AgrivatedKillah

Really? Call me when you actually take a trip up here, all around the state, not in Times Square (White Tourist Central)

  • @TastyPlainPizza

1.) Japan, London, Moscow, Beiijing, Dubai, Berlin, Okinawa, San Francisco, Seoul.

Are all cities that are superior to New York, and they don't have loud obnoxious New Yorkers riding the subways either.

Out of all the mega-cities, New York Is by far the worst.

No American city has as much culture as those cities i've listed.

  • @AgrivatedKillah Sounds like NYers gave you a good beat down. You can't judge a few by the people that raped you. Faggot.

  • @AgrivatedKillah Opinions galore...

  • @AgrivatedKillah No, I love my NY accent. And I'd rather have this than a retarded sounding southern accent. It's so slow and annoying. I just wanna slap them and say "SAY WHAT YOU NEED TO SAY ALREADY!"

  • @TastyPlainPizza Nobody cares.

Majority of the USA population lives in the south, and as a collective the East coast was found to be the most annoying accent.

Wow @ southerners talking slow, how dumb is that.

Funny @ the typical "all people from the south are dumb jokes".

  • @AgrivatedKillah Really, everything you just said was an opinion. Just the was you said " Wow @ southerners talking slow, how dumb is that." You just said NYers have annoying accents. I said my opinion. Why should I listen to yours if you can't accept mine. To me southern accents are the most annoying accent. And the "southerner's are dumb jokes" has nothing to do with good school districts. It was proven in national tests that the north has better school systems. You're just jealous of NYers

  • Ugh...I miss New York sooooooo much >_<

  • One thing all North Easterners have in common accentwise is the ing to in' ending. For example instead of saying something, we'll say somethin'. this is common in New England as well as New York.

  • @MandrakeMoorglade Sometimes it's so abreviated that something will actually sound more like suh'mm. I've heard this in Boston as well.

  • This is the definitive New York accent. You go to the bronx and brooklyn, and western Long Island, it's a little different. The further east you go in Long Island the less the accent and it starts to sound more like a typical American tv presenter accent. North and West of New York you get the upstate accent, which has more of a twang and is closer to a midwestern/pennsylvanian accent.

  • This guy was talking to himself

  • Comment removed

  • This video should be retitled, "Balding Gook on Speed."

  • @PrideofWhitey come on man ,, lol,, hha thats mean

  • you look like an asian woody allen.

  • is the new york accent the american version of a london accent

  • this that the other thing. lol theres some cartoons that contain some kind of new york accent i think like bugs bunny and top cat are they the authentic accent? makes me think of mob gangsters when i think new york :p

  • I found this very interesting and helpful. I teach English in China and I have a student going to NYU in the fall. I am going to show him this to kind of prepare him for what to expect when he gets to New York. I think it might scare him, but it will scare him into really practicing his English listening skills! Thanks.

  • his head wobbling really gives me headache

  • i hate the rich white people who go into manhattan and try to act like locals...pisses me off

  • @XxxxExclusivexxxX you're from long island, that's not even considered new york city.

  • @iMPERiOUS im not from long island, i liver here now and btw all the shit on my info is either wrong or outdated

  • @XxxxExclusivexxxX hello racist.

  • @henkarars guess whops white......this guy

  • @XxxxExclusivexxxX I bet your a Manhattan snob yourself

  • @dbmarquand obviously, because i live in manhattan

  • @XxxxExclusivexxxX rich white people built Manhattan you stupid ass.

  • @njdevil281 the working man built manhattan. thats why they call it the city that never sleeps.people working all night. who do you think they were talking about, not rich white people.

  • @njdevil281 NO. Mahicans did.

  • @XxxxExclusivexxxX i fucking hate them!!!!! i ride my bike through the city everyday and im pretty sure they are the cause of the traffic! learn how to fuckin drive before you come to the city.

  • im from california, i hear that we don't have an accent, and just so you know, we dont go surfin and we dont all say dude, just a stereotype look at dantheman's channel, he's funny he can do alot of accents

  • @Itachi476 actually, we do have an accent. lol Whether you believe you don't do the stereotypes or not, the "valley girl" voice comes out every now and then. We also have our own lingo. "Hella" originated in San Fran. And we're also a bit more breath-y when we speak. We say "water" with a "wah-(almost d sound)-ur" lol

My British friend makes fun of my voice all the time XD

  • @MomoDeary4 wow i never actually thought about it, wader, i say ur alot, i dont use hella alot, but wow i never knew we said water with a d, i laugh now when i actually do say the t in water, i cant say it without cracking up

  • @Itachi476 Haha, told you XD When you say it with a t, it's so Irish sounding! Hahaha, *sigh*, us Cali-folk...

  • @Itachi476 Nah, you have an accent. Its just that Cali is all over the media, so Cali is the "control group."

  • what happend to that guy?

My auditions are this Monday (12/6) and if you happened to get this before then, could you reply telling me how to say the words "clothes" "neat" "clean" "pick" "time" "neither" and "dangerous"??? Even if you could just spell out how it's supposed to sound that would be sooooo helpful!!!! <3

  • you. talk. so. fast.

  • "I don't even know why I'm tellin' you this." When he says this at around 2:36, he's is speaking like a true New Yorker. This guy has the most truthful accent.
