I think the fact that there's less talk makes the movie more powerful. It's like you feel the actors emotions and there's is sort of a connection between the characters and the audience, like you understand them.
She is married, you can feel thoughts of betrayal on her part if she goes through with it. I'd love to be her anyway, Michael is a so handsome, the perfect man!
This film is intense, and tragic. There is nothing sexual or erotic about the images in this film. Michael does an excellent job portraying a sex addict who's on a runaway freight train to destruction. His "look" is hard to ignore. It's like dropping the hook with some very tasty bait into the water to get a bite. He's hard to resist. Unfortunately, it's not enough. An academy award-winning performance if I ever saw one.
@spunkransomsluv17 Agreed. Have you read the script? It seems really full on. And apparently big company seller's what Shame to be released this year for Oscar Consideration. Yes please! :)
@iSkyexx I haven't read the script yet. I wouldn't know where to find it. Even so a part of me wants to read it but also another wants me to wait until I see the movie. Like I would spoil it for myself. I'm too indecisive of a person hahaha. Yes they should definitely release this year!! I would be so happy if they did. Thank goodness for the Oscars huh? :D
I thought of the same thing, but actually (for me) after reading the script, I really do want to go and see the movie when it comes out, I don't actually remember though where I found the Shame script sorry, it was months back. Exactly. Hopefully it'll be released in November/December. Yeh, apparently there are 3 big film companies bidding over the right's for McQueen's Shame, so that they can release it even though it's rated an NC-17.
@iSkyexx actually, only 20-30% of the script (you mean the script dated June 2010, right?) is in the movie. The script is good, but the movie is much better.
@MATTHE1W Really? I heard that the director was trying to use as little dialogue as possible and rather have the acting do the speaking. Did you get that sense when watching the movie?
@pemchem Have to wait till the movie is released unfortunately :( This all that they showed of the clip from the Venice Film Festival, sneak peak. It's killing me!
@jgreenwood11491 my mistake :) But it's Hans Zimmer - "Thin Red Line" Soundtrack : Journey to the line.
"(...) In one startling and moving scene on a subway, McQueen takes a risk by sampling Hans Zimmer's score from "A Thin Red Line" ("Journey to the Line") instead of using original music" -part of review from hitfix.com
@Superhappyhour82 Thanks for finding where it came from. I was basing the Bach thing on a piece that I read that said that the music used throughout the film is that of Bach.
Steve Mcqueen's Hunger was the worst exercise in direction I have seen in a long time. Worst not in a sense of incompetent, but worst philosophically. No sense of space, no sense of lightness, the piece didn't breath. He forced a 3d representation into a 2d aesthetic, flattening everything else in the process. Looking forward to see Shame to see where he takes it next.
Just recently saw "Hunger", Steve Mcqueen's previous work, also with Michael Fassbender. Brilliant work! Can't wait to see "Shame". Each scenes are brilliantly crafted and we get to interpret each stare, smirk, or even a flick of an eye for ourselves. Love how he placed his hands beneath hers on the pole, barely touching but enough to say he wanted her. This short clip seems to capture the essence, the background music is beautiful. Rarely does one see a true masterpiece!
Perfect soundtrack.

You know it's going to be raw and graphic like Hunger was. Not to mention BRILLIANT.
