  • very cool.

  • Everytime theres some arty farty music people mention drugs in the commentary field. This is to undervalue the effect of the music ITSELF. Ever heard of an abstract expressionist saying "take som acid before looking at Jackson Pollock?"

  • Never did drugs, but this + LSD...

  • Sounds like a faster version of the menu music in mass effect 2 when looking at the map of space...class!

  • psychedelic sounds here ;)

  • This has brought tears to my eyes.

Fantastic memories of '72 with my mates Malcolm & Patsy (where are u now?).. I was 19yrs old, never on drugs, staring at the Lava lamp for hours watchin the changin shapes listenin to this. Also reminds me of recordin it onto a cassette & walkin around Shirley Hills with my new Philips cassette recorder playin this, & layin down watchin the sun shinin through the trees. Man alive. This track is truly wonderful. Timeless.

I have tears now. What happened ????

  • the chemical brothers inspired on this

  • It's delightful! I don't think i've ever heard Terry Riley, but I've heard of him. Thanks for putting this out.

  • this is incredible - the guy is clearly a genius

  • The pionner of electro-music !!

  • When I'm listening to this "song", it feels like I'm in casino ;)

  • ZiT!

  • i have found a way how to get high with out doing some werid stuff were you hung upside down drink a litre of coka cola or takeing drugs and that is called terry rileys music

  • Really cool video! A perfect accompaniment to this brilliant music.

    Was this a computer animation?

  • HAHAHHAHAHAAHHAHAHAH

  • I like to listen to this song while driving at night in my Infernus through Star Junction...

  • I trip'd

  • GTA IV

  • 0:44 MIND FUCK

  • this sums up a trip i just had

  • This song... made in 1967!..... wow.... o_O

  • I want that for my screensaver trolololol.

  • Amazing work !!! : )

  • this is fuckin beatiful!

  • trippy as shit

  • カッコイイ!

  • This is so chill. I have this on CD. I have also seen the performance of his "In C" at the Walt Disney Concert hall in 2006. Splendid stuff. Thank you for sharing.

  • mushrooms =)

  • John Lennon would say: "A Day Trippin' Music"

  • Gta IV. at the internet café.

  • Nice to see the album is on Spotify... all 18 minutes of "Rainbow" and all 22 minutes of "Poppy Nogood and the Phantom Band"!

  • My question is how is Dub Step cooler than this?

  • @ViolentKreation

Dubstep? In no way, shape or form....Brostep or Crunkcore? Now that's a different story altogether...

  • @ViolentKreation Is not

  • @ViolentKreation This is too "meat and potatoes" for the kids... they need that souped up shite, more stodge, simple, predictable mass produced stuff.. they'll come around sooner or later...

  • @ViolentKreation the reason dub step is cooler than terry riley is because people can't handle it. The amount of dissonance, A-rhythmicalness (yes i did make that up. it means without rhythm, beat or tempo) and repetition used in this is too much for people. It like terry riley is straight vodka and dubstep is light beer. people just can't handle his amazing talent.

  • @ViolentKreation people have not experienced the void...if someone plays dubstep whilst i'm tripping i feel the need to stab them in the neck, if only i could move....

  • @ViolentKreation dubstep is amazing.:L

  • This is beautigul my mind is dripping away like sand through this.

  • GTA 4 the journey radio station

  • I don't mean to be rude but can you switch to the Classics radio station?

  • ale faza ja pierdole

  • people if you like this check out the chemical brothers, its the same melodies

  • what the fucking alien music is this

  • @Jetpack720 Why would it sounding alien be a bad thing? That just means it's super original and eerie sounding..

  • I dont get why the hype over terry riley, especially since it dates back from the 1960s.

  • Hitchhikers guide to the galaxy wiki page brought me here....

  • sorry if my text not gooed english is i am NL

  • @marioparty835 i think so to

  • have you gta 4 go to l.c.h.c whait for this song and call 948-555-0100 than text hi you the number

  • this song is in the game gta iv from zit thath fhone jumber

  • Sounds like an Atari 2600 game lol

  • Now, just how in holy HELL was this released in 1967? For that matter, how in holy HELL was "2001: A Space Odyssey" released in 1968?

  • @ThatsTheZone I know a lot of people who, like me, who are into "electronic" and "art rock" - more on the Eno/Behrman side than the ELP stuff - who have relatively thin skins about what others say about this music. It is great, just like any other types of music.

  • Don't take offense when I say this, but this is the only type of music that I can fall asleep to. Not in a bad way, either; just calm and relaxing, as if I'm putting on my p.j.s, ma's giving me warm milk and dad tucking me in.

  • This took you a while to make? A Clip from 2001 A space odyssey and a song you downloaded? You must be retarded.

  • the journey

  • not sure if I prefer Ligeti or Riley for this scene. this one is more "explore the fascinating world of space." Ligeti is more like "watch as your face slowly melts off"

  • not sure if I prefer this or Ligeti for this scene. but this made me smile anyway

  • Thumbs up if Baba O'Riley got you here.

  • Electronic Drug..

  • The Journey

  • feels good man

  • 2:45 - 3:00 is soo cool.. and again at 3:45. Experiential. I love it.

  • When I first heard this song on a radio station, I thought it was a tribute track to the arcade game "Rainbow Islands". The album cover looks the same and even the synth samples sound similar. But now I see in the comments this was composed decades ago. Huh. This song must have been an inspiration for it!

  • YESSS!!

  • MASS EFFECT

  • does anyone have the music sheets for this piece? i''d love to play it

  • @Sharkwhisperer Oh, it's all about you, isn't it?

  • I bought the LP in the 70s ... when I realised this was the inspiration for Mike Oldfields "Tubular Bells"

  • great track

  • This music makes me wanna kill somebody lol

  • @kingofsouthside50 .......Join the fuckin army...you just might lose that sentiment!

  • @SuperMacenas yeah good idea

  • sounds like im in a casino lmao.

  • i bought this LP i was 16. i'm now 55 :D

  • GTA4

  • tron

  • For a song that is actually 11:09 seconds long its a good song! I love the Organ synth effect towards the end!

  • Pete Townshend , of The Who, said this song influenced "Won't get fooled again", from the album "Who's Next".

  • @bluestate69 Same with Baba O'Riley!

  • 9 people never tried canabis before listening to this.

  • To think this was recorded in 1967. That tidbit of information in itself is a trip.

  • Comment removed

  • What trips me out is this is most likely electronic music from the early 70s? The funny thing is when i listen to newer carbon based lifeforms its not that much newer? In some ways it is..Well in orbitalways.

  • has anyone got descending moonshine dervishes by terry riley ? its like this but lighter and slower.it would be good to hear it again.

  • got love this, i first heard it in the hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy (radio series) :D

  • This is stunning. Thankyou

  • Tripping...

  • oh wow the places I have been listening to this album, and evening star and orb's ultraworld...........

  • its like stoner metal, only much lighter

  • Watching the sunset whilst driving in my car through Liberty City. All that during this song...

  • I'm looking for this recording... Can't find it anywhere... Does anyone have a link for me? Thanks in advance.

  • @Zuxilbaja I cant put the links, for some reason yt wont let me, but its on amazon if you want to get it the legal way. Theres also a torrent of it, just google "monova rainbow in curved air"

  • @LSDCoatedBrain Its from an album of the same name from 1967 you can find it on torrent sites.

  • @Zuxilbaja You can get a youtube downloader and download audio only or Vid and aud

  • @Zuxilbaja mediafire(dot)com/?nwtlo5zztmy

  • @Zuxilbaja Are you kidding? You can buy this off ebay on cd, for 10 bucks. There's a million of them available.

  • I'm looking for this recording... Can't find it anywhere... Does anyone have a link for me? Thanks in advance.

  • I'm looking for this recording... Can't find it anywhere... Does anyone have a link for me? Thanks in advance.

  • What the world needs is more of the content that was used in creating 2001a space odyssey, not the same content put to different music. Terry Riley is as well known as Stanley Kubrick. They both created pieces that deserve the respect of being the real thing.

  • How old this is you may not realise it was a treat to find is here. Simon gave me head phones when i first heard terry riley, thank you..

  • The images fit almost perfectly

    a very good combination

the music is really strange to me, but still i find it really interesting

    thanks for the video!

  • Simply awesome.

  • Goooooooooooooooooood!!!!!

  • Sickkkk

  • this is what fripp failed miserably at trying to imitate and improve upon. no chance,he hasnt the imagination to carry it off !

  • It goes without saying Terry Riley's music has been a big influence on me since I first heard it in 1968. Everything else didn't compare it sounded so unencumbered by gravity. *****

Best - Kevin Harrison ( Contact me thru Facebook)

  • This just also reminds you of how the human is probably the only creature in this planet that can make either great or shitty stuff.

  • This is just so infinite, but it´s awesome!

  • gta 4!

  • hahaha

  • NIce! Always loved that sequence, good choice.

Check Amazon for the full length mp3 download - cheap as it counts as a single track.

  • Very Hypnotic & Meditative an inspiration to the mind and soul..

  • I love how people watch this and "act" like they're high, saying they're high while they watch this, trying to act cool.. grow up..

  • @HeartofObsidian everyone is high

  • Hmm, I don't know about that one, a lot of people smoke marijuana.

  • I also like how you edit out bowman's face. Without the context of the story it just looks silly (I fucking love the movie though btw and read the book too).

  • I agree.

  • @monroetsd there's four books and two films. do your homework. you'll be surprised. peace.

  • Yeah it's a pretty obvious connection to make. I'm not surprised that more than one person has made this. The song just sounds like the film sequence looks.

PS I'm really high thank you for this amazing video.

  • Anyone out there who's played Earthbound? Definate influence on the Skyrunner music.

  • you're right

  • Really cool song. Very hypnotic and meditative.

  • OMG it's very terrific!!

  • dumbass

  • This was in the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy radio series. And that's awesome.

  • Proof great special effects can be produced without CGI. CGI is the lazy man's work.

  • steve roach's "structures from Silence" is one of my fav. ambient albums :) Another perfect piece is Brian Eno's "Ambient 4:On Land" :) check them out!

  • @Dereck89 Roach's "a deeper silence" is pretty damn nice as well.

  • Comment removed

  • holy fuck man....watching this on shrooms is awesome :D

  • Probably me favorite song to listen to in GTA4

  • tripy as fuck my head was mentaly sadimised.

  • @rreds2008 mental asshole

  • ahh no..but this vid just raped my mind with trip.i cant even rember where i am man

  • If you dig this, give a listen to Prince's song "Lemon Crush" off the Batman soundtrack. Obviously a funk/pop arrangement, but the keyboard solos and vocal harmonies throughout will blow your mind.

  • very impressive

  • this is great. I love the movie 2001!

  • LSDCoatedBrain, is this your prefered "tripping" music?

  • Not really actually. This is a good song to listen to stoned, but imo ambient music is best to listen to tripping. Lately I've been listening to Steve Roach's "a deeper silence"

  • I wish I could figure out how to do that odd pattern thing so I won't have to burn a song into a video.

  • What do you mean?

  • Those mystifying lights in the video that move as the music plays.

  • I didn't make those. Its a part from a movie, 2001 a space odyssey, its towards the end.

  • -_-

  • the journey was a great radio station in gta 4, with great and mess'd up (but in a good way) music!

  • this piece was used as the background music for the narrator in the radio play for the hitchhikers guide to the galaxy.

  • Comment removed

  • the journey was the dopest radio station in gta4

  • haha "the journey"
