Look at the beginning & the guy on the left side of the audience who had really fallen asleep & woke up & straightens himself up during the commotion. And how some of them really seem to expect to be called! I'm always shocked at how OLD people looked years ago. Kids in my parents & older siblings high school yearbooks looked like they were in their 30s & 40s!
This is such a classic skit! Whenever I see it I still find myself laughing out loud. The live audience really makes it so much more funny too! Thanks for posting it.
I didn't get to see this show back in the day (was born in '71) However, I've seen this clip & its some of the best comedy around. Comic's should take note.
The story behind this sketch was that during rehearsal Sid Caesar ran in different directions... I guess it was to throw everyone off during the live show. Really hysterical to watch.
This is one of my favorite Your Show of Shows sketches. Thanks for the date of this broadcast (Sat Sep 20 1952)... the whole segment in the live audience is what i love...you also saw how folks dressed just to see a live tv show back then.
Does anyone have a clip of Sid's take off on the movie "The Bicycle Thief" and a skit with him and Imogene where they are in court and Imogene is accused of throwing garbage out of her window *LOL* Funny Funny stuff
Hilarious! ...is a mild word! This is TRUE comics at work. A whole generation has lost the meaning thru senseless sitcoms now on TV. Some school should have this required class: Really Funny Stuff 101. Clips like this, from YOUR SHOW OF SHOWS, would be the main course.

This first aired on September 20, 1952. The man sitting next "Al Duncey" in the audience is NBC executive David Tebet {as Sid later recalled}...
