  • This clip ruined his political career. WOW! I'd better be careful about what I say on tv.

  • it is truly ridiculous that someone could be criticized for having a dual citizenship. you know who else has got a dual citizenship? Neil Young and everyone loves that man. common how could anyone be swayed by this.

  • If you vote PC or Liberal you are aiding in the destruction of Canada. THE NAU WILL TAKE OVER AND CANADA WILL LOSE ITS SOVEREIGNTY. Our currency changes to the Amero. Do you really want US control over Canada????

  • Vote NDP

  • why is there never any video of the question being asked? theres not enough context as to what he is trying to say. Decisions made by the US government affect him, because he was living there, just as much as any US citizen. Because he was living there, he then has just as much stake in that country. This comment likely isnt that bad, or bad at all, because he could be saying that the people have to decide what they want and realize how it affects them because they all have a stake.

  • lol is every one retarded he didnt say Canada isnt his country eather he likes bothe and respects them equally. guys listen just becuase he went out of canada and has american citizenship dosnt make him bad. start thinking about the real deal. and really? is that all harper has to complain about.

  • you guys are whack if you think this means anything.. Harper is ALWAYS bringing up how ignatieff "isn't a true Canadian" and how he's studied in the states and left Canada so he can go on his own individual adventure or whatever... but in reality, he was in the states doing a bunch of human rights campaigns, spreading the word... Isnt that what being canadian is all about anyway? It pains me to see this many people hating on Ignatieff when, in my opinion, he should be the one running our country

  • On May 2nd I have to decide the Canada I want. And I dont want this guy.

  • Tell me you wouldn't rather have Harper

  • @ThymesTV - I wouldn't rather have harper. Harper wants all of canada to be part of america, he's a traitor and a criminal

  • @sinephase No harper doesnt, just slander away... haha

  • ok, i'll tell you what. I promise not to vote liberal. BUT! i would like to see an answer to why stephen harper wants a "fox" like "news" broadcaster here. and why he didnt hold to his promise of dropping the gst off gas when it hit 90 cents. or why he feels cutting corporate tax will help me. try showing why the party you like is the right one, not why the others are the wrong ones. are we the u.s.a? the answer is no..... not yet anyways.

  • People need to take five seconds and wiki shit before they get their panties in a knot on YouTube.

Igantieff doesn't have American citizenship, dual or otherwise. He never applied for it. His personal affiliation is up for debate, but legally he's pure Canadian. If he had dual citizenship anywhere, it would be Russia, as his father was born there.

Elizabeth May was born in America, though, and didn't have citizenship until she took office.

  • @awfulsails that makes it even more appalling. He IS NOT an American and he professes that he is!

That's even worse than him being suspected of being a pro-American - all this guy speaks are empty lies then!

Now I won't even buy his patriotism for Canada.

    good you pointed that out!

  • @bluevlocity407 Hey, just pointing out facts. I'm not voting for him for reasons that have little to do with his national preference.

  • People seem to think that dual citizenship is a bad thing, but in our highly globalized world, I think this would work in his favour a lot. He's seen the world, knows what he's up against, is a respected intellectual... He also didn't spend THAT much time in the US, so I don't think we can really accuse him of being more American... He got his PhD at Harvard in the 70s...He then went back for five years in 2000. He's a global citizen as well as a Canadian. Is that necessarily a bad thing?

  • I never realized that dual citizenship meant one cannot become prime minister. Who knew?

  • He calls the United States his country?? Well, I'll be hogtied and whipped. No, really, hogtie me and whip me. LOL

  • Anyone who supports abortion being tax-payer funded (in our country OR overseas) doesn't believe in freedom and doesn't believe in respect for tax-payer money! We already have one spokesman for communism in Ottawa, we don't need another. Ignatieff: You are a joke, you smarmy racist Hillary Clinton lap-dog! You don't have a shot in hell! Just leave our country!!!!

  • CLEARLY MR IGNATIEFF WAS SPEAKING ABOUT CITIZENSHIP. HE WAS SPEAKING RHETORICALLY, ABOUT CITIZENSHIP AND IN THE LANGUAGE OF CITIZENSHIP. So naturally some Tory hack in a backroom is spinning this to make it look like Ignatieff is dishonest. Its ironic. Harper is the one who wants US style politics brought here. Harper is the right wing nut who has stated publicly that its "high time we scrapped the Canada Health Act." It is Harper, not Ignatieff who will compromise our sovereignty. TORIES LIE.

  • Who cares. He went to harvard, is clearly smarter than mister harper, and he IS still a canadian. I think he would be a much better leader tan our current PM (who, in my eyes, doesn't care about the environment), and would be an excellent choice for prime minister. And I don't even support the liberals.

  • what a douche-baggery!!

how can he run for a CANADIAN prime minister when he has American citizenship and calls AMERICA his country... doesn't make any sense!

  • @mcnattmc Yeah, if he want's to run our country, he better do it AS a Canadian, FOR Canadians. Having US Citizenship and not even living in this country for half your life makes you ineligible in my eyes.

One can only imagine American reactions if they were to find out a half American was elected as prime-minister. Might be the first time they ever pay attention to us.

  • @mcnattmc Because he's not an American, moron. He just worked there, like millions of other Canadians, he worked abroad. The Tories have taken this clip out of context. Ignatieff was speaking rhetorically. He was not actually trying to give the impression he was American, he was trying to convey an idea about citizenship. WAKE UP MAN. The Tories are using you. They are crazy right wing fanatics, they are not your friends. You have a duty as a citizen to know what the hell you are talking about.
