15, but I listen to fugazi along with all the other great alternative stuff like Gang of four, my bloody valentine, pixies, wire, minutemen, etc. plus i get the meaning behind all of it too. its a shame also that the term punk has been corrupted by bands like green day and so on
@UltimateVenom I'm gonna go ahead, be a genre nazi, and say that this is post-hardcore. You can find similarities between Fugazi, Nation of Ulysses and Rites of Spring, who were all D.C. Post-hardcore bands. Which legitimizes it as a genre (since several bands have a similar approach to hardcore).
@BerserkerBarrage88 ok, you're obviously trolling. so if you think that, what's the point of actually coming here and making a negative comment? It doesn't make you look cool.
@BerserkerBarrage88 you're expressing your opinion in the worst place possible. that's like being a republican at the democratic national convention. you wouldn't be in your element. so i mean finding a video where someone trash talks fugazi would be much more appropriate for you
the comparisons are a waste of time. the only post punk progressive hardcore band , pretensiousness aside, the phrase fits. who goes from "nice" to Noisy" as well. aint they aren't afraid of math.

@6millionlies14 Only in my head? Isn't that all that matters? I realize they left the hardcore scene for a reason, but really, Its good to see that theres still good things that came out of it.
@ov3rcl0cked sure if you cant comprehend reality ,the scene is dead and so are you. the music lives on in a hand full of people nobody cares your time is up good bye
These guys and Fudge Tunnel used to be my favorite two bands back in like 1991-92. Now im 38 and cant figure out why my 13 yea old daughter listens to crap.. kids
@svmeco Widespread Panic, Pink Floyd, Lead Zeppelin, The Band, Monte Montgomery, ect, ect. I am 38 now and my taste has changed a bit though I do pull my “tape” collection out from time to time.
@ymp5000 upload some fudge tunnel cause some punks ripped off my tape player and my tapes won't fit in the 'puter for some reason? f@#$ and now everythings grey.
@ymp5000 I'm in the same boat with my 19 yrold daughter, she grew up with what I listened too but she was influenced by kids in school so now she listens to both the good ol punk from back in the day and the crap they play today. My boys on the other hand, great taste in music!
@ymp5000 you were 18 in 1991, right? I'm sure your daughter will change a lot in the next 5 years - give her a chance! There's a lot more crap aimed at kids these days, try and introduce her to some good stuff that she could get into as a 13 year old girl...
@EtcEtcAndEtc Hell, I know that. Its just ironic that my parents hated a lot of the shit I used to listen to and now history is repeating its self. But I did get her into the Beastie Boys early in life and she does like some more eclectic stuff she picked up from her mother and I but come on, Jedward, Selena Gomez, and Parry Gripp? WTF?
@ymp5000 when i was 13 i had shitty taste in music, then when i turned 17 i started looking in to the backgrounds of many artist i liked... and this how i learned what good music is, eventually your daughter will find out what good music is! :)
@ymp5000 I can sympathise having an 11 year old boy and being 48. It's a rollercoaster ride - when he digs something good but then comes home from school singing crap. I don't want to control his listening habits so I try to explain about "feeling " a band's musical motivation and hoping for the best. Re Fudge Tunnel, must dig them back out.
have you seen any recent clips of guy with that ric. it now has no truss rod cover, strap buttons are held on with duct tape and i can only guess what the back must be like
@projectno5 hahaha no, I haven't, but that's so cool... most people wipe down their Ric with velvet cloth every night before going to bed, fuck it, beat the shit out of it. it is just wood.
@jfeuiebf To be honest i think that fugazi was the first band that inspired the name/term emo for music. Their lyrics, the passion, the truth, the ambience through noise, the emotion. Nothing to do with the trend of the term emo 15-20 years after.
By the way, the above version of Shut the door is mind blowing!
@congasious yeah , that's what I meant, I remember ine the 90ties people in our local punk scene were listening to this and were calling it emo, I asked the question to test the reaction of the forum , lol
@jfeuiebf if you think about it though. compared to punk music this does sound emo. but now the emo scene has been totally exaggerated. we've lost the touch for beauty now MOST artists whether it be visual or music are just doing whatever is trendy to make money.
They didn't use effects pedals. They plugged straight into the amp. They're creating those feedback effects by playing with the knobs on the amps and the guitars. By turning the volume down on one pickup and switching between them, they can create a lot of weird sounds. Crank your amp and play around until you figure it out.
@Chiro75 You would hear on their later recordings, especially off of Red Medicine, End Hits, and The Argument, that they would begin using effects pedals; but they would never use them live. I guess it potentially would remove all the intense experience while performing, or for some other reason I can't possibly think up. However, Guy had his own pedal board that he used for when he was on tour with Vic Chesnutt.
