  • @navioascott LOL poor deluded fool you are.

  • @navioascott Come to the dark side.....We have cookies :D

  • @navioascott I think it's time you returned to your farm in the Middle Ages - things are a bit different here in the 21st century... :)

  • @Sifty

For every season turn , turn, remember that song from Eccles. 3:1. Well the world may change but it's creator who is great doesn't.

Malachi 3:6 "For I am the LORD, I DO NOT CHANGE; Therefore you are not consumed, O sons of Jacob.

Hebrews 13:8 Jesus Christ is the SAME Yesterday, Today, and FOREVER.

James 1:17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is NO VARIATION or shadow of turning.

Get into Bible not the farm.

  • @SiftyFix yeah in the middle east...... not China or anywhere else in the world....

  • '@navioascott i thought "blashpemy" was "unforgivable""(I cannot emphasize the "air quotes" enough, really.now

  • Rest in Peace Christopher Hitchens. You are an inspiration to all of us!

  • I bought this book yesterday.

    Its great!

  • Huge Thanks ..for uploading all of these .

  • this is my 5th hearing of the audio book. I own a copy of the print version, and have purchased 4 for friends and other family.

christopher, you changed my life -I will always be in your debt. I am so very grateful to you for your work and you commitment to freedom.

I am an ex-christian and ex-mormon. it was your writing that brought form and meaning to the confusion I felt after my de-conversion.

I hope you get well and live another hundred years! I will never weary of your insights.

  • What a beautiful speaking voice Hitchens has.

  • Whats the opening tune? Its really beutifull but dont remember the name - please tell me! Fuck god...

  • @swedishmetalupyours It's Mozart's 1st movement of sonata K331 in A

    /watch?v=hUkcEVa5ATQ&feature=related

Enjoy! I love it as well :)

  • God is not great but Christopher Hitchens is!

  • Hitchens is a good writer, but I'm honestly not a fan of his voice. Looks like I'll be buying the book instead of listening to it, which is probably for the best anyway.

  • Free inquis

    Many think alike

But just a mystery to most

In future generation U may be brand as a God too

Cause the 2 famous book for 2000 years are not so salable now

ET UFO lights in the sky YouTube videos are the in thing now

Hope u hv great book sales

    Bless u

  • Wow I'm surprised this is readily available

  • Great thing you have placed it here. Now I know I will buy it. Thank You.

  • @holly4146 Well perhaps if god loves us so much and doesnt wish for us to go to hell then maybe he should resort to another method of disclosing himself and ditch the antics of a child passing notes in class.

  • @manbeaver508 You do not want to banish these people. That's just another inhumane act and people like Hitchens and people who use reason would not like this. Instead, it's better to attack Religion as a whole and use science and reason to help people understand the beauty of life without some deity.

  • @xIJOS3RAMOSIx well said

  • love how hitchens narrates his own book. same with dawkins "the god delusion" which is also on youtube.

  • @holly4146 I believe in gods. In fact, I love gods. I love Amaterasu, Tsukuyomi, Susanoo, Odin, Loki, Urd, Verdandi and Skuld, and would love to see a good crossover game/movie of them all, because I know they do not exist. But I know for one thing that people do NOT believe in, let alone love, is God. Spot the difference?

Difference is, I get to go to 2 (or more) Heavens instead of just 1. Or rather, I already live in them, rather than waiting to die just to go to one.

  • Thanks for sharing this! PS - God is NOT great!

  • I'd totally go gay for Hitchens..... even if Jesus didn't want me to ;)

  • Putting this up for public consumption is a brilliant move. I have read the book twice, but it is sublime to hear it read aloud by the great man himself.

  • I cannot thank you enough for this.

  • god is great because it's logic itself

  • @paginipro trolololololol

  • @adraim69 I don't get you

  • @paginipro orly?

  • @adraim69 what's orly?

  • @paginipro Why do you ask?

  • @adraim69 I don't get you

  • @paginipro I get you.

  • dogma is man's downfall

  • @captaingary76 That's funny.

  • The corporate-cops maintain that when you, a citizen, assert your inalienable rights, so as not to incriminate yourself—so as not to build a case (the State's case) for your prosecution and/or persecution, you are being uncooperative & unreasonable.

  • Read Chalmers Johnson instead of the C.F.R.'s boot-lick Christ' Hitchens.

  • guess you jesus freaks dont get it, we wont be scared into believing something, we ll leave that to you guys

  • @o1slvrcobrasvt Haha we don't do it out of fear. We do it because of unconditional love from God that we feel so much pride and thankfulness for that we see sacrificing our lives in worship to Him is actually no sacrifice at all but only common sense and the least we can do.

  • This book came out over a year ago but it's still wonderful to listen to. Type 'God is not great pdf' into Google and click the first link if you want to read along while Hitch speaks :) it's a treat.

  • Awesome!

  • Wow...Thank you so much Mr. Hitchens! Finally someone has put into words what so many of us harbour as our own personal secret. I know from childhood experiences that religion would not be what it is today if not for force.I'm thrilled to see that they're are some whom are willing to champion the the ideas that will someday break the cycle that undeniably limits us as a species

  • On the cross Jesus also said “Peter, I can see your house from here”

  • @quig66 xD awesome. truly bravo. LoL!

  • An excellent audio book, but the addition of music makes it difficult to hear exactly what is being read. I don't think the music itself is bad; however, it certainly doesn't make the audio book anymore interesting - it just makes it harder to hear!

  • @MicahBuzan OK, I'm laughing at myself now. I typed that comment after listening to only a minute of this video. I didn't know the music would fade out haha!

  • FreeInquisition.Thank you for sharing this enlightening piece of audible work with the world. It would be easy for me or anyone to say, but, I do have the yellow-jacket hard-cover in my home library. I have read it unlike any other book I have read in the past 5 years, at least. It was truly fascinating to digest the content at my leisure. A special Thank You to Mr. Hitchens for enlightening, so eloquently, a great deal of human mammals with the truth we probably innately 'felt' for a long time.

  • why not a paperback version?

  • I personaly do not believe in god and do not particualy like religion, but no matter what any atheist might say to argue, a religious person will always have a silly argument to say back that does not answer your question and the argument will never end. For example...

Atheist - "Where is your proof that 'God' exists?"

Religious Person - "Where is the proof 'God' doesnt exist?"

Its a no win argument for both sides.

  • @Isabel1956

According to one verse in a fabricated mythological book.

  • Wow. So Christopher Hitchens decided to reject God not based on anything God did or said, but on what two adults in his life said that was incorrect. Rather than seek out answers he just posed more questions to himself that he never bothered to try answering but assumed them to be insuperable. This arrogance leads him to call all the good God does, bad. And people wonder why God punishes?

  • @darylemhenry no, he did searching for questions and realized that there were no conclusive answers. but whats worse, he found many people pretending to know the answers, and forcing their views upon people, while at the same time pillaging and killing in the name of their dogma. i do wonder why god punishes actually, thanks for asking. doesn't the devil reign in hell? if satan punishes evil people, then why is satan considered evil? but god punishes and it's all good? yes sir, i do wonder why.

  • @darylemhenry you have schizophrenia issues - get a grip!

  • @Isabel1956

Great example of biblical logic. Jesus, who was in some mysterious way equal to God the Father and the Holy Spirit, ordained that he himself should be killed, as a sacrifice that would atone for Adam and Eve's sin of acquiring knowledge. Then, when he's on the cross that HE chose to die on, he blames mankind. Yeah, that makes a lot of sense.

  • @Isabel1956 -The most tragic irony of mankind will never even be realized by Christians:

That is, when the last neruon dies out in the brain, the Christian will never know there is no afterlife. I as an atheist however, will know exactly what's coming: NOTHING.

  • @LordSauceness Okay. See for yourself

  • @Isabel1956 _Ever consider that not one single person ever has come from the other side to tell what's there. Too bad you'll never get to know the truth....lol....

  • @Isabel1956 what is there to forgive if jesus WAS god? he knew it all along and wanted it to happen, didnt he?

he didnt give up much if he really was god.....

  • @Isabel1956

Actually, quoting José Saramago's book, Jesus said about God: "Men, forgive Him, for He knows not what He has done".

Much more accurate don't you think?

  • @CarlosCMTF Just out of curiosity, who is Jose Saramago to say this?

  • @Isabel1956 If you were really interested, you'd have already searched on the internet!

But you are the kind of person who doesn't like to search or learn - you prefer to BE TOLD what to do or believe!

That's why you believe in nonsense - you don't bother searching for the truth!

  • @CarlosCMTF Sooo.......You're saying Thomas Aquinas and John Paul II and Leo XIII and St. Alphonsus de Liguori did not search for the truth? Bull SHIT pal. Maybe you should go read some of their great works and then come back and rethink this comment over. Last time I checked, these people were real. Btw you got owned by a 15 year old . You're probably like 60.

  • @GrungeGodThenNIRVANA

No they were NOT seaking truth - they were seaking GOD (which is the COMPLETE oposite)

You are referring to people who barely knew how to read. And a 6 year old nowadays knows much more about science and philosophy than these people you mentions back in those days!

PSEUDO-INTELLECTUALS is the technical term I think

  • @GrungeGodThenNIRVANA It's poor form to say the game's over unless you're admitting defeat.

They were seeking justification for their faith. Aquinas' arguments for God's existence all carry the presupposition that he does, and it's fairly clear from his logical contortions that he is grasping at straws. I'd go into detail, but I have 150 characters left.

Besides, who are you to claim they sought truth? You didn't know any of them personally, did you? Bit presumptuous of you to claim that, mate.

  • @Isabel1956 and the roman hammering in the last nail smirked as he said. "Oh yes i do." and then he laughed. oh how he laughed.

  • @Isabel1956 trust me, YOU have no idea what you don't know

  • @Isabel1956 #FAIL!!

  • @Isabel1956 lol you're sad.

  • @Isabel1956 The Bible is not the real teaches of Jmmanuel (Jesus).

  • Read "Muslim Mafia" by P David Gaubatz & Paul Sperry. Lear how the US government is tracking, raiding, jailing the followers of the fascist, rapist, murdering pedophile Prophet. "Allah is our goal, the Prophet is our guide, the Quran is our constitution, jihad is our way and death for the glory of Allah is our greatest ambition"._Muslim Brotherhood credo. They all read the same book.

  • God is indeed not great, but this book -available in fine bookshops everywhere - is.

  • god doesn't exist, religion was created by elites to control all of the sheep with fear. catholic church wrote books in the new testamant and said that the disciples did iT!! there is no afterlife, you are born, you live and you die. dont worry you wont miss not having an afterlife, you'll be dead!!! lets move past this god nonsense and religious bondage.

  • I think it was Salman Rushdie who told Hitchens that the title of this book was exactly one word too long.

  • @bheddon So it would be "God is Not"? Hm. Guess that could work...

doesn't make as much sense, though.

  • @mustrapefoley You mean grammatically? It does make sense grammatically, as well. Its just an old-person way of saying "God doesn't exist, and we don't need to believe in him to get along." It makes all kinds of sense.

  • @bheddon

Ah, no just in terms of rolling off the tongue; you have to think about it, while "God is not great" has a snappy fuck-you-religion feel to it. Makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside.

  • @mustrapefoley Haha! It is a pretty hilarious middle finger.

  • @Isabel1956

    Troll harder.

  • @Isabel1956 booo!

  • @111steven

I definitely agree. It is your right to feel the way you do about it. What else can I say/

  • @Isabel1956 "I would rather be tormented and put to death than to give in to such lies". Who would torment or put you to death? Unless you are talking about other religious people that goes to such lenghts to harm whoever disagree with them, then you are crying victim of yourself. Don't whine just because other people don't agree with you. If you want to be tormented by the simple idea that your beliefs look ridiculous to others, it's something you have to handle yourself. Don't blame others.

  • @Isabel1956 the loony bin?

    which god, may i ask?

  • @Isabel1956 to the mentaly ill home ?

  • @georgeleader18

You may curse me and call me whatever you like because nothing will stop me from standing up for God.

Jesus suffered a horrible death on that cross so nobody would have to burn in hell. He is my Savior and I honor Him and give my life to Him. Amen

  • Nobody would have to burn in hell? Actually hell is never even mentioned in the old testament. The meek and mild jesus introduces it, and he doesn't do so by saying: yeah hell exists, but nobody will go there. Actually quite a lot of people are supposed to be heading there according to this incredibly loving man... Time to read the bible again, methinks

  • @banshans actually hell is mentioned in the Old Testament. It's known as Sheol which is hebrew for hell or dark abyss. its also mentioned as hades. and Jesus allows us to choose Him and His love, and not have to go to hell.

  • @ozarkababy please specify where. Hades is greek mythology, not christianity. Allows to choose? Kim Jong Il also allows people to choose between loving him and torture. He does have a lot in common with God, I reckon you should try moving there.

  • @Isabel1956 im guessing you also belive jesus was a tall white man .. if he existed he would most likely be a short black or tanned man :L

religion is a way of controlling the fearfull thats all it has ever been .. a way or recruiting a force ..

  • @Isabel1956 - tell us, please - Where exactly are you going? This I gotta hear!

  • @Isabel1956 you better get down on your knees............ and ask for your fake got to prove he is real ...

  • @Isabel1956 Thank's for speaking up.

  • @Isabel1956 Where are you going exactly? Jupiter?

  • @Isabel1956 I've already made this comment today, but Hell, why not again. "Judge not, lest ye be judged." Matthew 7:1. See you in Hell, buddy.

  • @LordofAoD Hope to see you in Heaven because that's where I am heading to

  • @Isabel1956 How do you know you are going to heaven, there is no evidence that Heaven exists.

  • @LordofAoD Are your scripture quotes supposed to impress, they certainly do not impress me. Scripture is fraudulent in that it is merely the opinion or wish of certain people. Faith is the belief in something that is not so or putting it another way it is the belief of something without evidence.

  • @Isabel1956 I'm not getting down on my knees... but if that's your thing, mind doing me a favor while you're down there?

  • Comment removed

  • @Isabel1956 You are stupid, ignorant and scared.

  • @Isabel1956 For God is kind, he must let hell exist and let us torment on the earth by people he had created and natural disasters happening. Ask yourself if heaven should awaits us at our graves or should be with us right now on Earth.

  • @Isabel1956 You are a fool, a serf, and, even worse, a coward. You face reality in the manner of a five year old child.

  • @Isabel1956 You don't know where you're going because I don't know. You don't posses powers that I don't

  • just picked this up two days ago. excellent.

  • Actually here's something for you people to think about. It's not religion that people kill each other over. It's indifference. Just like now because you disagree you have to voice your opinions and patronise people that do believe. Instead of minding your own fuckin business and getting on with life. I'm not saying all religious people are innocent either, just as all non religious people are not guilty it's just the ones that believe they know better than anyone else who begs to differ.

  • @Chasten12 It's nice how you keep rattling on about minding our own business, when it's exactly the encroachment on free society by religious thinking that is preventing us from doing that; you are also the one who felt the urge to share your opinion on this video, and now you bitch that people are responding to you. No where in these videos (not that I'm sure you've watched them, after launching a tirade on part 1 of the first chapter) does he or I suggest what you are suggesting.

  • @FreeInquisition The title itself is an open insult to people who do believe. I already told you that many religious fanatics are just as guilty. So this means your solution is eye for an eye? That's incredibly intelligent. Tell you what. Find a religious video that is an open insult to non believers, blames them for all the shit we have in the world and calls you out as an idiot for not believing and I'll post with you against that aswell. People who promote indifference and self righteousness.

  • @Chasten12 The title of the book is an open motion to an argument he makes throughout its pages. One he makes quite convincingly. It's nothing to do with flaming religious people (how you extrapolated that, I don't know) it's a charge against organized religion and the damaging effects of religious thinking on society. The title is not there to insult people, and I think if you are easily insulted by it you must have some sort of inferiority complex or you're just plain old trollin'.

  • @FreeInquisition Ahh yes how I extrapolated that. Pretty much in the same context as you did with religion. If you don't like religion you never had to bother with it. You aren't going to change peoples minds by assuming they are too stupid to have their own opinion. What exactly do you portray by that image? You are nothing more than a bigot. Some pathetic person that has to try put others down. Asides from a few most religions have nothing to do with your wild accusations.

  • @Chasten12 Again, everything you base my position on seems to have been pulled out of the ether and your deluded hysteria has now extended to confusing me for Hitchens himself.

Your comments are now becoming so preternaturally laced with irony that it's becoming increasingly difficult to understand what you are trying to argue, let alone take you seriously. If you have a severe problem with this video then I suggest you don't watch it; it might be good for your blood pressure.

  • @FreeInquisition Anyway I'm done now and I've said my bit. You people keep putting down others and beliefs that matter to them. That ofcourse is the best possible way to prove your point. The fact that you cannot at least consider that it may be brought across insulting is irony at its best. After all we should all think and believe exactly what you do right? Beware the religious people. The peace and unity that most teach for is a complete cover for our secret plots to destroy the world.

  • @Chasten12 if i wanted to expend the effort, i could find countless such videos.

  • @Chasten12

Don't talk to us about being insulted. There are more video's on here condemning atheist to hell and torture then you could watch in a week. Until recently, non-believers would be lucky not to get killed for their lack of belief, let alone being insulted. We disagree with you, thats all. Get over it.

  • @Chasten12 Yeah but non religious people have the advantage of not being mentally ill.

  • This idiot is no better than half of the holier than thou Christians who try to convert everyone. I am a Christian and it means alot to me. Alot of Christians generalise nonbelievers as heathens which is hypocritical and retarded. Then you get dick heads like this who generalises all religions etc as if his idea of life is so much better than anyone elses. Just. Another. Hypocrite. Fearing mortality primitive? Fuck you idiot I call it human. If you are pleased about dying someday good for you.

  • @Chasten12

If you're going to call someone an idiot it's best not to talk like a fucking thoughtless animal. You dare call someone else a hypocrite in this context, hypocrite?

  • @evilyig You missed the point you twat. I'm basically pointing out that he is no better than the rest of the morons that give religion a bad name. Yes several wars have been fought over religion. Millions of lives have also been saved through its moral teachings and various charities etc. What causes more wars than anything is idiots like this who can't mind their own fucking business if they don't like it, so how about you shut the fuck up.

  • @Chasten12 Thanks for you cogent argument. Strange how this idiot hit a nerve with all his hypocritical generalizations.

  • @FreeInquisition Well if I told you that you were a moron for not believing and that only idiots do not believe you would not consider that grounds for striking a nerve? I don't care what you believe you are welcome to it, I have many friends that are athiests and I do not judge them or interfere with their beliefs, we are still great friends. My religion has never caused me to go on a killing spree, only argue with people like you who are no better than the holier than thou fanatics.

  • @Chasten12 Well if you want to believe in something that doesnt exist but encourages hatred and death to you fellow man that is purely upto you son. Personally I just think your nuts. Change Christ to Fairy do you still believe in that ?

  • @kinkokonko Yes that is clever. Clearly religion is the main cause of human violence and it most definitely does not encourage peace, piece of mind or good moral at all. In either case I am not trying to convert anyone, that is not my point. I respect people enough to let them make up their own minds and have their own ideas. I do not respect people such as you who thinks your opinions matter more than my own and try to patronise me so screw you too buddy.

  • @Chasten12 So although you agree religion is a bad idea and not good for society you still believe in it? Seems quite rational. I suppose if we had a picture of God, hypothetically it sounds like he must look a bit like Joseph Stalin, we would have some proof that we were all indeed created by some Evil Dictator. That there is not one shred of evidence of Gods existence makes me wander on your assessment on what facts and moral are.

  • @kinkokonko I don't know if you just don't understand sarcasm or if you are just trying to be clever. Why I believe is completely besides the point and not a conversation I'm willing to get into with a person like you. You think I don't know that there are many inconsistencies between what I believe and scientific fact? I'm an amateur astronomer. Why I do is a personal choice and not fit to be discussed with a bigot. As for moral - pull your head out your ass and answer that yourself.

  • @Chasten12 I think why you believe is completely the point. Why people believe in idiotic, unfounded, myths, that encourages death, hurt and misery is worrying for all humanity. I don't think you can understate that. The reason we are still living in the dark ages, that people are dying unnecessarily due to disease, war, hatred is all down religous idiocy. That you know you have contradictions on fact and belief just further confuses the issue.

  • @kinkokonko Man and you think I'm delusional? You can really lay that all down on religion and not human nature huh? That's quite an imagination you have. Most religions teach about peace and unity but through your ignorance you choose to see human stupidity as a result of it. What a sad person you are. If you base everything on fact then maybe you should look at how we evolved. I wonder why animals maul eachother without religion to influence it. Idiot. These will be my last replies.

  • @Chasten12 As Hitchens puts it life and evolution are not 'nice' but it is fact. Moral behaviour is not related to Religion, any thing but. Religion shows itself to be amoral in all efforts to spread itself. It leads to death and is very similar to a virus. Name an good human deed that requires existence of Religion ? Name a bad deed done purely in the name of Religion? QED

  • CD 3 is best when he speaks of Joseph Smith and the book of Mormon. Anyone who believes the fairy tale created by Joseph Smith is seriously deluding themselves!

  • God does exist. God is great.

  • @SummerSunshine1988 God is dumb; so are you.

  • @StevenCBlah : You may think me dumb if you wish. I do not value your opinion of me.

  • @SummerSunshine1988 And no one here cares for your conjecture either.
