Use 94 high octane fuel in the maxima to get maximum performance. Ante up on the fuel and put I at least 91 oct. if you can afford it. That lower grade stuff (87 oct.) cuts performance down making the car run like a 245hp car. 89 octane (mid-grade), car performs like a 265 hp car. Don't let that max taste any other fuel but the high/highest octane...and it most likely will crush most, if not all, V6's in its class...

The Maxima was in Ds mode. You can see that it's in '4th' partway through the video. Ds mode adds false shifts that cut power and cause the revs to drop. The difference can be a half-second or more to 100 MPH. In D mode, the engine will hold up to 6600 RPM (6200 with low-octane fuel) where it develops maximum power. The SE-R, while a fine car, is not as fast as a Maxima in D mode.
i took my shit to the middle east and i enlarge the cylinders. it used to be 3.5 now it's 5.8 . it's very cheap and i recommend that if u interested on racing. no need for Turbo.

Just wondering....Why is the tach only reading like 5.5k RPM on the max ? You should hit 6.5k RPM and nothing less if you fully press that pedal. While I have no doubt that Altima was quick, I can't but notice the tach could have being much higher.

Nahh well i raced a '10 maxima and i beat it, theres no problem with a altima beating a maxima. I had a high 13's in the quarter mile with a cold air intake and a new ECU. By my understanding the 2010 maxima has 290 hores power and i was making around 286. I don't get how my Altima beat his Maxima because mines heavier.

sounded to me that SE-R was automatic. I have the 6spd.SE-R. The close ratio gears is what makes the SE-R faster than stock altima and maxima, NOT so much the claimed 10 more ponies. They have the same engine. 05 and 06. Only years the SE-R was produced. Now I don't know about the 09 Maxima (SV??) I can tell you that on dry pavement I catch a 3rd gear scratch just about every time I try it. That is at 62 mph. 4th gear hits @ 94, 5th redlines at 147, and the spd limiter kicks in. Still have 6th!

Altima SE R leaving an '09 Maxima SV behind??!! Don't think so...It's like a McLaren F1 leaving a Bugatti Veyron behind ..rare but possible...if the driver of the Bugatti doesn't know how to really use his car!! Altima SE R has 270 horses/251 lb/ft torque. Maxima SV has 290 horses/270 lb/ft torque. Clearly the driver of rental maxima was nervous. He didn't 'open up' that beast to the fullest..if he did, he would have left the altima SE R in the dust...trust me...i've seen this Maxima SV thing in action - I drive one, and I'm not afraid ..and in DS mode its not losing a race to an Altima - off the start or top end. Besides, when the Altima was pulling away, maxima dude was in 5th gear not 6th. LUZR

@smartkid1985 True... But Nissan's V6's with CVT are tuned from the factory to start letting off at about 90-100mph. When tuned to maintain full power (which I have seen done) Maximas AND Altimas with CVT are BEASTLY.

@ConnorGorman You are correct. I made it myself. Just went to Pep Boys and bought a Universal pillar and used fiberglass and bondo to mold it to my stock pillar. Then took some black texture to finish it off.

VQ's LOVE nitrous!! It's a thing of beauty when done right and it makes for a nice sleeper.. So you think your making around 285 to the crank, only one way to find out get that thing on a dyno and see what it's making to the wheels. As for mine I don't have nitrous anymore, I have intake, headers, exhaust, spacers, block off plate and a tune..
@usedgoldfish Headers make a BIG difference on VQ fwd cars! After I got them installed and retuned the car it ran real strong and the top end was a whole lot better! Headers are your best bet unless you go with cams or some sort of forced induction.

@usedgoldfish Yea your gonna run lean because you are changing the values. As weird as this sounds, wehn I went from a short ram to a cold air I was tuned with the aem short ram, installed a fujita and it was in the 14's which is a no no!! So even small things can affect your afr but after installing headers you will want to definitely tune the car to get the full advantage of the headers.
@usedgoldfish If your not gonna go to crazy with the car I would say go with an SAFCII if you can find one, or you can ship your ECU to Osaris down in Austin, TX. Or if you don't wanna go either one of those routes and you wanna go with something more you can go with UTEC or Haltech which are full stand alones. But you have to do something as far as tuning goes or else you will not be happy just throwing the headers on.
a stock altima with auto will not beat a 2009 maxima with auto from 0-100. after that yes but if the maxima was in cvt mode and the passenger was kicked out it wouldve done better but would still lose after 100

Yes but the max is rated 30hp more stock vs stock and a catback on an SER is less than say MY SE or an SL. I would love to run against an 09 max with mine.
And if you ladies knew anything about the new cvt transmission the car is faster in regular drive mode until 70mph and then you switch it over in tiptronic mode and let the car do the rest. @vaasqueez, well if you are anywhere near Toronto Motorsports park, you should bring your TL there and we should do it. I have a stock 2006 with 70,000km that has been babied, and I know for a fact it can hand down TL's with bolt ons.

@vaasqueez I will be there in 2 months. I'm just saying, I keep looking for footage, and every TL that my crew has ever raced at T.O. motor sports has never won. Not trying to hate cause the TL is my second favorite mid range sedan, and some of my friends will be reading this... I have just never seen it.

I'm pretty sure the Max would've smoked the Alti. @ 0:17 if you look, he's in Manual Mode. CVT in manual mode on this car sucks. The fastest times all reviewers recorded were done in D mode.

@smartkid1985 True... But Nissan's V6's with CVT are tuned from the factory to start letting off at about 90-100mph. When tuned to maintain full power (which I have seen done) Maximas AND Altimas with CVT are BEASTLY.

@RB25luv I used to own a 02 maxima 6MT... so unless you had some major stuff done, you wouldnt be able to really do anything... I had a 04 silver maxima, then i got a 02 maxima... this 09 maxima is a rental (not mine)

i'd take that ser altima anyday! nissan killed the new maximas by putting a cvt tranny in them and getting rid of the 6 speed manual. even the older automatics were fun with the sportronic option which i am sure this ser had.

@ ConnerGorman: VIAS hurts top end, With it in you have about 24 more ft/lbs of torque at 3k rpm but if you remove it, you lose the torque but it is possible to see gains of 11 hp from 4.5k to redline.

@ConnorGorman You are correct. I made it myself. Just went to Pep Boys and bought a Universal pillar and used fiberglass and bondo to mold it to my stock pillar. Then took some black texture to finish it off.

@dsm2xtreme is it really the cvt or the tuning of the ecu? maxima that i've seen and altimas with cvt transmission dnt have any problem hitting 150mph and thats with the cvt. i have them in my favorites if u want 2 watch

@sickndboy FINALLY someone who understands WHY they taper off after 90mph. It IS the tuning. Nissan's CVT is actually one of the best and strongest transmissions on the market, hence why it gets so much praise!

@0verd0se87 Nah that se-r was an auto 5sp you can tell wen it changes gears but ur rite it should win either way its def lighter I have 04 4sp auto max with I/H/E and I beat up on 09 maixmas all day.

VQ's LOVE nitrous!! It's a thing of beauty when done right and it makes for a nice sleeper.. So you think your making around 285 to the crank, only one way to find out get that thing on a dyno and see what it's making to the wheels. As for mine I don't have nitrous anymore, I have intake, headers, exhaust, spacers, block off plate and a tune..

@usedgoldfish Headers make a BIG difference on VQ fwd cars! After I got them installed and retuned the car it ran real strong and the top end was a whole lot better! Headers are your best bet unless you go with cams or some sort of forced induction.

@juicedser well i'm buying headers and a 6 speed tranny and installing at the same time ( My 3rd gear is about to go out 150k miles on it so i'm not mad I beat on the car) But with all those mods will i be running lean without a tune?

@usedgoldfish Yea your gonna run lean because you are changing the values. As weird as this sounds, wehn I went from a short ram to a cold air I was tuned with the aem short ram, installed a fujita and it was in the 14's which is a no no!! So even small things can affect your afr but after installing headers you will want to definitely tune the car to get the full advantage of the headers.

@usedgoldfish If your not gonna go to crazy with the car I would say go with an SAFCII if you can find one, or you can ship your ECU to Osaris down in Austin, TX. Or if you don't wanna go either one of those routes and you wanna go with something more you can go with UTEC or Haltech which are full stand alones. But you have to do something as far as tuning goes or else you will not be happy just throwing the headers on.

a stock altima with auto will not beat a 2009 maxima with auto from 0-100. after that yes but if the maxima was in cvt mode and the passenger was kicked out it wouldve done better but would still lose after 100

@usedgoldfish Well i have seen an 02 stock vs an ser a 04 vs an ser and the 09 was thought to be a little faster than the 5.5gen and 6th maxima's but that is up for debate. So anyway this maxima lost by a mile. Thought it would be a little closer thats all.

Yes but the max is rated 30hp more stock vs stock and a catback on an SER is less than say MY SE or an SL. I would love to run against an 09 max with mine.

And if you ladies knew anything about the new cvt transmission the car is faster in regular drive mode until 70mph and then you switch it over in tiptronic mode and let the car do the rest.
