  • Ah, Ol' Crazy Eights.

  • Faster than a speeding bullet...really ?

  • THEY ACTUALLY SHOT AT THAT FUCKIN TRAIN??? I thought they made that up for the movie, good god!

  • Shooting on a train in order to stop it seems very American I have to say. At least from a European's perspective. ;)

  • Since when did trains travel faster then a speeding bullet??? And I agree with thetrainman407, shows will make up almost anything cuz the controller did not fall asleep, bunch of idiots running this show

  • good thing that they stopped the train .

  • Reminds me of "Unstoppable"

  • @SRX9311 The Movie was based off these events

  • The narrators a retard.

  • @callmeshane

    How fucking stupid are you?

  • @ Callmeshane303 because trains don't have tires you dumbass

  • @ callshane303 because trains don't have tires you dumbass

  • @sad1eluvsme

    Umm yes they do.....

  • 1:29 hat FAIL.

  • Thay Made A movie about that

  • @Survivor1547 yep and they did good on it.

  • @Survivor1547 no shit.

  • Why didn't the cops just throw spikes across it's path and flatten all the tyres?

  • @callmeshane303 can't tell if stupid or troll...

  • @theshugchannel

Well people like you do tend to have those problems.

I will pray to Jesus to give you a bigger butt plug - to keep all your bullshit in.

  • @callmeshane303 lol nice one

  • @callmeshane303 you must be a dumb ass on 8 different levels

  • @lotsoftrains123

    8 levels....

    Do tell.

  • @CTTV101

    Phenol is always molten idiot.

The Nazi's used it via direct injection to the heart of people in their concentration camps.

Reason - cheaper than bullets. Instant cardiac arrest.

  • To clear some things up. It was not a "Controller" falling asleep, but rather an engineer not properly setting the brakes on the locomotive while lining a switch. Also, not once did they mention the use of a 2nd train that coupled on from the rear and slowed it down to a speed of about 11 MPH. I swear shows will just make anything up to get the entertainment value out of their program...

  • @thetrainman407 either that or the engineer forgot what he was doing and went to get a smoothie

  • How many cars is engine 8888 is pulling.

  • @ltlman692 In this particular case 8888 was pulling 47 freight cars.

  • This is what you call "pulling a Homer"- succeeding despite stupidity.

  • Why did they fire shots at the loco? Perforating the air tanks in order to lock the brakes?

  • Don't american locomotives have dead-man's vigilance devices? To prevent exactly these kinds of things to happen.

  • @PfhUkJiu101 not really. we americans are legit idiots.

  • @penguinmaster7 You've no idea what you're talking about lol. If a train goes through a red signal, the engineer has 30 seconds to act to stop the train. If he doesn't, the brakes automatically kick on.

This of course, is assuming the air brake hoses are tied; they must not have been in this case.

I don't know if anybody else realized this or not, but this is the real life event that the movie "Unstoppable" is based off of.

  • This reminded me of Unstoppable the movie. They do like the same stuff.

  • Comment removed

  • @BashirTheTrainMaster The movie "Unstoppable" Starring Denzel Washington and Chris Pine is based on the incident that is shown in this video.

  • @JordanGray88 <:^O I knew someone would say that...0....

  • @BashirTheTrainMaster Just saying what's true :P

  • the CSX runaway went right pack my gagas house and i jumped on when it started to slow XD

  • are you sure its ok to send shotgun ammo into a diesel tank expecting to make a hole so the fuel can drain out but not expecting total ignition of the remaining fuel?

  • @bloodypandahachiroku They were not trying to blow a hole in the tank. There is a fuel shut-off button they were aiming for

  • This is strangely similar to a movie that came out fairly recently..

  • "with a mighty heave with the throttle" WTH he just set it to zero and shut it down

  • ...And then Denzel Washington caught up with the train and slowed it down

  • Who ever posted this should read up on the facts before posting something new

  • and he forgot about the other engine that came from behind

  • they are wrong. the asshole didnt fall asleep he tried to jump back on the train but was drug for 80 feet. The movie Unstoppable which is based of this story is fairly accurate on how the train got loose from the yard

  • @jhamill99 - "drug"?!? DRAGGED!

  • @JBofBrisbane Druggeded :-)

  • @jhamill99 do u work there or were u a witness

  • A-holes! They shot 8888.

  • they messed up the story bad in this clip, they left out alot of the story

  • [CSX] VIDEOS HERE

  • The basis for the movie Unstappable no doubt.

  • @Trekker1801 yes it was

  • And guess what, i dun work!

  • tatal different from the movie

  • i thought that locomotives had automatic stops if the engineer isnt in the train

  • @TheMrthelifedealer they don't because that makes too much sense :)

  • Hazmat doesnt mean flammabe

  • okay. the locomotive got bored and went exploring

  • yea shoot at a gas tank thats smart

  • @TrackMaster555 Unlike the movies, if shoot at a diesel tank it does NOT blow up.... It just leaks every where !

  • Was this a direct clip from unstoppable?

  • @ConfusingConfusious

no, the train in unstoppable was orange

  • @KnittingPasta it was red

  • is this where they got the idea for UNSTOPABLE?

  • @ConrailQuality96

    Correct Sir!

  • CSX #8888 was an X-Conrail engine. It didnt wanna work for CSX, it was in search of other Conrail engine. Poor engine!!

  • Alerter? what alerter that is an old SD40-2 and this happened long enough ago CSX didnt even think about adding an alerter and no the brakes were not 100% applied they were released just in case anyone cares about info from a CSX employee and yes the fuel shut off has to be held in to shut the engine down it has to starve the fuel pump to shut it down it takes a min or two for it to run down all the way and if you release it too early it picks the fuel back up and revs back up to its set notch

  • @502nuts This SD40-2 had an older style alerter which was malfunctioning. I live about 10 minutes from where this happened & I still have all the newspaper articles about it

  • Who would let a nice CSX SD40-2 Locomotive runaway?

  • Comment removed

  • A hero sticks out to try and stop the mess, and chickens out.

  • The CSX local freight is out of control! No one is in there. How to suppose to stop the train?

  • Comment removed

  • "A treatcherous train traveling faster than a speeding bullet" ???

Since when do bullets only go at 46 MPH?

  • @AshHill07

Lol i think it was a joke

  • @AshHill07

yeah, that's not even as fast as the train in Unstoppable

  • @AshHill07 hahahahah!

  • @AshHill07 They were made in China

  • @AshHill07 remember, this is a TV SHOW ! it is intended for SHEEP to watch !

  • That narrator is the most annoying fucker ever.

  • I work for Union Pacific and every yard job Ive worked, we never hooked up the big air. Here in Louisiana its flat enough to just use the brakes on the Locomotives.

  • But this isn't the full story. I have been reading and the Fuel Shut-off on an SD40-2 like Crazy Eights has to be held down for a few seconds to even begin working. And what about Q63615? They completely left it out, even though that is what truely slowed Crazy Eights.

  • crazy 8s! 0:o9

  • What a wanker narrator.

  • Most asinine narrative I've ever heard. Also, the "half-witted" conductor didn't fall asleep at a switch, as if that was really possible.

  • Hahaha the movie super exaggerate it lmao!!!!!!!!

  • lol, it dosent seem as serious as in unstoppable

  • @The21jumpstreet21 but as always you know hollywood makes it dramatic

  • mighty pull of the throttle? uhh theres something called breaks. and iron giant? nice try but its steel

  • @trainlover479 Well, the locomotive was probably at notch 7 or 8, so brakes shoes where worn to shit after a while. That is why the alerter didn't go off

  • The dude who completely chickens out is a pussy ass bitch!

  • @JetaMechMa i ur talking about the air brakes... In the movie they didnt connect them

  • What is a train controller? ...and why would him falling asleep cause this train to runaway unmanned? Don't these things have a deadman's switch that will apply brakes automatically unless the engineer complies by pulling a lever which proves that the train is under control? GEEEEZ!

  • @JetMechMA no one fell asleep in this incident

  • that didnt look so dramatic and serious like the movie lol

  • Comment removed

  • Oh, but I live in Kentucky and no such shit ever happens here.

  • LOOK OUT BELOW!!!It has stopped the way I tought.

  • yeah, lets put a bullet in the tank of the engine. that seems like the very very last idea i would have though of.

  • @dirtman119 Emergency cut off button right above the fuel tank. The whole idea was to shoot it and activate the emergency cut off switch and shut the locomotive down.

  • @dirtman119 yhats not whatt happens

  • Shooting at a train he was lucky he didnt hit himself or someone else with the ricoshey not that i saved day but just sayn

  • That must be one incredible shotgun to knock the officer's hat off like that!

  • OMG Crazy 8's, it's Unstoppable!

  • this train and a train like it inspired the movie Unstoppable

  • The alerter was inactive because the brakes were applied, but it was burnt due to the train at full throttle.

  • This is what unstoppable is based off except w/ much more drama added into it. Still a beast movie though.

  • where is the elevated S-curve

  • @AlecF234- That was just in the movie. CSX stopped the actual train before it got to any large populated areas.

  • "so how do you stop a train that is going 'faster than a speeding bullet'? Use a speeding bullet!"

    rofl

  • This run away was the real story that is in the movie "Unstopable." I wanna see that movie soo badly!!

  • @BTCRAIL101FILMS its a great movie, you'll love it

  • この事故が、トニー・スコットとデンゼル・ワシントンのコラボレーション鉄道映画、『サブウェイ123』に続く鉄道映画、『アンストッパブル』のモデルに、なりました。

  • man i would be scared to see this train crash

  • lemme get this right......they shoot the emergency kill switch that is located on the fuel tank??? couldnt that risk blowing up the whole locomotive??? ...idiots

  • @RRMEGATRON The metal on the fuel tank is too thick to go through with bullets. It was a flawed plan as it is a very small button on a very large and fast moving train.

  • Moral of the story: You train controllers.. don't let yer train show you her caboose !!!

  • Thats a fact! I like most of your comments! They always try to make the railroaders seem like a bunch of dumbshits! While I dont railroad now I have in the past and I can tell that it pisses me off as much as it does the rest of you that are.

  • I live near walbridge (I live in northwood, the outskirts of Toledo) I remember this happening. Crazy crazy crazy.

  • So, Narrator, you would let your train go onto the wrong track, shoot near the fuel tank AS IT'S ENGINE ARE RUNNING, AND Jump aboard a train -- which, apparently, can defy the laws of physics -- while it's moving???

  • the movie unstopable is based on this story. that movie is awesome

  • @MrBigredsfan Unstoppable is far from an awesome movie. There are so many errors concerning railroad equipment, terminology, procedures, statistics and so on and so forth that it just kills it for most people who know anything about trains.

  • @Defiant47 Truth be told, if movied did tell the truth, most people wouldn't understand it. It's one of those occasions where you either tell the truth or make it entertaining, impossible to have both

  • @JoaoMario24 Yeah, I know. I saw a clip where in an interview with a cop who was involved said the real story wasn't that interesting. Shit like that is always hyped up. It just helps believability if at the very least, correct information and terminology were used. Quick example, the "heros" were in an SD40-2, a 3000hp locomotive. In the movie, the engineer said it was 5000hp. With that sort of increase, the runaway AC4400's, at 4400hp, each would be 7-8000 a piece! :D

  • @Defiant47 True, I don't know much about trains [all my knowledge comes from MSTS], and I have to tell you, even though I likes that movie a lot the innacuracy of the details did put me off.

  • @Defiant47 It's just a movie. Most train related movies have flaws. No big deal it still had plenty of action and was pretty good in my opinion

  • They said the brakes were ground down to the framing upon inspection. Check out the wiki site on it, pretty detailed account, makes the news vid seem very dumbed down.

  • The alerter was inactive because the engines airbrakes were 100% applied

  • @arsenix2001

If this was the case, I would have expected to see smoke coming from the engine's wheels.

  • @ridingscotsman By the end of the trip the brake pads were completely worn off, so I don't think there would be anything left to be smoked.

  • @ridingscotsman they already burned off.

  • @ridingscotsman in real the brakes where shredded and fell apart

  • @ridingscotsman By the time it made news, the brakes shoes had burned off....therefore, no smoke.

  • @arsenix2001 The airbrake hoses weren't hooked up. So when the alerter tried to apply the airbrakes...obviously nothing happened.

  • @arsenix2001 Dead man's switch/alerter wasn't active because the loco was being used for shunting work when it ran away. Hence why the brakes never came on.

  • should of gone in to emergency breaking because the dead man switch was not hit. BUT people like to rig them to not do there job

  • I hate how Americans dumb this fucking shit down with lame ass stupid fucking sound effects and make shitty ass jokes. Shitty video.

  • @andeh22 I love how you said in 23 words what you could have said in 15. No better than teenagers these days who insert the word "like" into everything they say about every 3 words. You know, like when, like, you use, like, cuss words to, like, fill in where you, like, have no, like, brains.

  • So that's were Crazy Eight went!

  • this is the cause of makin Unstoppable

  • I just watched the news story from the actual incident...it said nothing at all about a sleeping "controller" or whatever. It was an engine that was in the yard for some kind of repair and IDK, the brakes let go or something. No PERSON did this accidentally or on purpose...it was mechanical failure.

To all you train guys reading this, I salute you. You work hard and you earn every dollar. I wish the rest of the country and our politicians would support you more and also passenger rail

  • @patriotgirl65 It was not in for repairs it was just switching in the yards.

  • hahaha only 1 person disliked this video

  • Half witted controller??? As a UP Engineer I resent that. The "half-witted"controller" was a dumbass Engineer who left his train cab to thow a switch, oh and he left it running under power aka throttled up.

  • I was hoping "Unstoppable" would be just like the actual event, guess not..

  • Why does it have to be a CSX

  • Well they said that the movie unstoppable was based on true events

  • EMD got shot!!!!!!!!!!!

  • It Is Like the movie UNSTOPPABLE

  • It Is Like the moive UNSTOPPABLE

  • I like the movie better

  • thats what the movie unstoppable is about

  • This is why CSX 8888 is now know as the crazy 8. LOL!!!!!

  • @CMI1986X64

Yep, this engine does have an Alerter System. However, the engineer, before hopping off the locomotive had made a brake pipe reduction of 20psi. In such a case the Alerter won't engage since the brakes _have_ been applied. Problem is is that the train behind it hasn't been laced so the reduction won't do a thing.

  • Why not shoot the radiator out?

  • Comment removed

  • @metraF40PH163 well why not?

  • i think the engineer left it notch 1 then got out to throw the swith that was agianst him. when he stood up he must have buped the throttle to 8 without knowing it and it was too late when he noticed. either thet or the choo choo ferry took it for a joy ride. i would of blamed them damned kids.

  • Comment removed

  • In America, theres no such thing as a controler. Theres the engineer and conductor.

  • ok mate. i stand corrected. then maybe it really was worth a shot. ;) Lol.

  • Anybody seen my train? I swear i parked it here.

  • @63executioner007

    Dude where's my Titanic?

  • @tenchimuyo69 Dude wheres my train????

  • why in the movie "unstoppable" did they change the train number from 8888 to 777?
