  • Fantastic song, Ed Mccurdy did this song also... I do not know who's I like more! May they both Rest In Peace!

  • The real problem was lenore weighed 300 lbs.

  • @WangZuXing - go wash your brain. This is the story of a hero giving his life for a young woman.

  • THE BEST BOYS

  • I hope to meet Marty Robbins at "the roundup far away"

  • I think we were all introduced to Marty by our Dads. I know I was. I especially loved the cowboy ballads. If y'all aren't already familiar with Don Edwards, you should give him a listen. Alot of similarities in style and sound between him and Marty. In fact one of Dons albums was my last gift to my Dad.

  • Thats crazy! my dad introduced MEto Marty with this very album... I sing all these songs to myself every day at work! Utah Carol was always my fav!

  • Every who was introduced to Marty Robbins was introduced by their dads, cuz my dad introduced me and my bro to his songs

  • @Thecavin11 AMEN! My dad never played this particular song, but my dad passed away 5 years ago and I tear up every time I hear this gem.

  • @Thecavin11 yep. both my husband's father and my father introduced us to the great storyteller Marty Robbins. Rest in Peace Marty!! None can fill your shoes...

  • @chassebeth That's the truth.

  • mother used to sing this song to our familey in the thirties and forties my sister Lenora was named after this song

  • WHO HIT THE DISLIKE BUTTON!!!! GET ME A ROPE AND TREE BOYS WE'RE HAVING A LYNCHING TONIGHT!!!

  • @scottishwar4 use the tree in the town square

  • among the best

  • @garynut11 I'll bring the rope!!

  • Wouldn't trust no other on the frontier!

  • I spent many a happy hour in the early sixties listening to Gunfighter Ballads on a red and cream Dansete player. Fantastic! lovely memories of my dad and still a great song Thanks for posting it!

  • My Father also introduced me to Marty Robbins. Wow am I thankful he did. He was absolutely amazing. RIP Dad and Marty

  • a great western ballad. always marty is at his best.

  • Anyone ever heard the Cartwright Brothers version of this? It is from the 20's or 30's, I think.

  • Anyone ever heard the Cartwright Brothers version of this? It is from the 20's or 30's, I think.

  • a great ballad by the finest of western singers and my favorite always

  • His Gunfighter Ballad album is arguably one of the best country western albums ever recorded.

Every song on it is excellent. Americana in song.

  • i get chills every time i hear this song

  • @tinytim57

    Me too.

  • truly a talented artist, could use a few more like him now,

  • its too happy...should have a sadder tone

  • Marty is one of the best singers if every heard i sure miss his songs rip my we will always miss you

  • this song is my oe i like the must of is but like all of them

  • One more great recording of Marty R.

  • This song and Master's Call are my favorite Marty Robbins song's.

  • I bought my first Marty Robbins album when I was 18. He became my favourite, and the album was 'Just A LIttle Sentimental.' That was 47 years ago, and he's still my favourite even though he has sadly left us. I consider him the greatest singer/songwriter ever, there will never be another. Thanks for posting this.

  • great song its got alot of feeling

  • oh this song reminds me of my friend that died last year...RIP walker...

  • very good song and great singer

  • Thanks for posting this song, it's one of my (many) favorites!! So sad and beautiful.

  • thanks for sharing this. one of marty's best

  • a sad cowboy song but sung so wel by the greatest of cowboy singers.

  • aww my Grandfather used to sing this to me when i was very little. He dearly loved Marty's music.

  • Is he singing "What makes me as sad a stew?" Why is stew sad? I like stew. Just go easy on the potatos.

  • sad and still -_-

  • Sad and still not sad stew.

  • The lyrics are, "...sad and STILL....."

  • at least he was thoughful enough to provide a steer for a barbecue.

  • now that's looking on the bright side of things lol!

  • @don417 ...you do know that normally if you drop /stop the lead steer, it will stop the stampede. So I'd say BBQ was not on his mind at the time.

  • there's no "artist" today that could match this classic. no one sings songs like these anymore... if they do then the radio stations wouldnt play them.

  • amen dogote82 its not the western feel that gets me though its good but no artist tells a story paints a picture like this anymore uatah carol could be borchu ghengis kahns trusted friend from their first raid this song is excellent and im generally a metal guy but this is beatiful a great story buy a great singer

  • thats what i'm saying :D i like a song that can tell me a story and hold my interest. music today is just background noise.... nothing really worth paying attention to as far as lyrics go.

  • "His six gun flashed like lightning, the report rang loud and clear" Vivid and poetic. A true western legend!

  • great great song

  • Great artist; great song! Thanks for posting! :-)

  • this guy is badass.

*if your 555 THEN IM 666*

  • what story did this song orginate from.

  • my has told me this story and how it came to be in words

  • could you tell me where this story cam from that utah carol originated from

  • it's a song, you doorknob.

  • It's not a song you dingleberry, its a ballad.

    :)

  • Ballads are songs, you jizzstain.

  • No. Ballads are lyrical stories, you fartknocker.

  • Its a interpretation of a ballad within song form. So sush. Both happy?

  • Well, I sent Don a friend request, but he never responded. lol

I hope he didnt take me too seriously. :)

  • Again a great preformance from one of my favourite country singer
