Huh; that's very interesting. I heard this song Donald Mcgallavry by a group called "The Empty Hats", which I loved. It sounds exactly like this, excpet the lyrics are different. Is this the original version? It was also funny, my mother is in the other room, and when the song started she says "that sounds like Silly Wizard!". I'd never even heard of them. I guess she saw them live in Montpelier VT, when they first began touring. Funny coincedence!

Great to see this! I saw them on this concert tour (not at this live taping), and I own the VHS of "Live at Center Stage". You wouldn't know of a source to get it on DVD, would you? I don't even have a VHS player any more, and this is one of the tapes I most regret not being able to see any more.

@RobloxRhino You need to use a Youtube to MP3 converter. Type in Google: youtube to mp3 dvdvideosoft (or something like that, at least have dvdvideosoft in the search) and download that. Then you can make an MP3 out of the audio of this video.

@RobloxRhino Depending on whether your sound card's drivers can do so, you may be able to record your computer's sound output in a sound recording program. It's also possible to route your computer's headphone output into the mic input jack with the right cable. I believe there's also specific software that can do what you're describing.

In a footnote to The London Literary Gazette's review dated November 11, 1820 of "The Jacobite Relics of Scotland" by James Hogg, where the song was first published, the Gazette stated: "Donald Macgillavry is here put for the Highland Clans generally." Gareth Davis wrote a comprehensive history of this song for Radio De Danann, Google "mcgillavry de danann," it should be the first hit.

@NoRefillsLeft So when Silly Wizard put down in the liner notes of "So Many Partings" that Donald McGillavry "was a captain in...the Highland army during the Jacobite Rebellion of 1715", did they know that it wasn't true? Or at that if there was really a man of that description, that the song wasn't about him? They don't actually say that the song is about him, but it is implied. It seems odd that they wouldn't know it's real history, having been revealed so long ago.

Yet another beauty from probably one of the best Scottish Folk bands to this date. Definitely the most incredible Male Scottish voice out there. Silly Wizard are more assuredly up there. It's amazing, and saddening, however that when reading the comments, all those who claim to have some sort of Irish descent yet can't tell the difference between Scottish and Irish. Accents, language - you name it.

no it's supposed to be Jacobite. Donald is out to clear the cuckoo's nest of the usurpers. I always heard it was from the '15, so it is King James the 8th and 3rd, better known as the Old Pretender, who he is serving.
