  • Oh my, Lina, how ever did I MISS this poem before? Was it not public for a while? No matter, I have found it and I think I may be in love with you. :) P.S. Brian and I have sat here watching it multiple times, and he wanted me to tell you he loves it because it was so subtle and poignantly understated. Five stars from us! (I do miss the stars...)

  • @sonofwalt Just one response (two responses) like this make it all worthwhile. It is so rare and infinitely valuable to be so understood. Thank you!

  • Digging a little deeper into my friend's channels today. Nice way to spend a rainy afternoon while the laundry is in. Might I be silly enough to say that I love your kitchen? And the kitty cat.

All of this is said because YouTube itself is being a stubborn git today, and will not let me see past the 28 second mark of this video! Sigh... I like the poem as written, but hopefully, the tube will unstick itself and I can hear your reading next time I come back and visit. Thank you, Lina! :)

  • Did I not comment on this poem? What is going on with me?

Such a very crisp and subtle poem. I love the lines:

"it was like meeting the Queen

And Bob Dylan all at once,

    Uncanny where loyalties lie"

Love that simile and that it ends with "lie."

  • Thank you and thank you for having a good eye for a lie. :-)

  • this is my third time here for this lovely piece. it gets better with each listening.

    Paul

  • Such a lovely voice!!! I could listen to you all day!! - often the overshadowed are the most tragic and most forgotten, but you have the eye and most of all integrity to bring this to the world's attention 5*****

  • Thank you. Humbly I treasure your comment.

  • I saw Aeronwy Thomas once at an open mike night at the Poetry Cafe in Covent Garden.

I never asked her whether she liked my poor poetry but Im sure your beautiful tribute poem would have made her smile. Im still thinking about, she mourns; sideways on.

    Regards, Peter

  • Must, must make my way to the Poetry Cafe one day. Perhaps we'll meet up there. Yours, in profile... H.

  • What a lovely poem, I love the way you read aswell. Beautiful. :-)

  • Thank you for such a kind comment. : )

  • A very personal tribute, beautifully chosen words. Poetry can be a great way to paint a portrait, 5* for this one.

  • From one painter to another, I thank you.

  • A most kindly and moving tribute & poem. I liked 'green memories bitter as the acid of unearned royalties.'

  • Thank you, Charles. Yes, "green" as in DT's most oft quoted lines, but also 'singing'; see my latest favourite. : )

  • nice poem

  • Thank you kindly.

  • Very beautiful *****stars; )

  • Hi Kabuki, thank you!

  • Carrying and caring for the legacy of a famous parent must, in many instances, be quite a burden. This, I think, especially true when so much distortion and lies are perpetuated. For me this really came through in your poem. But also something of the tenderness and regard in which you held her. I can believe that this is a memory you really cherish.

  • Thank you, it was a cherished moment; so clear in memory, so difficult to recount. : )

  • Very nice.

    5*

  • Many thanks!

  • Beautifully done, wonderful tribute:)

  • Thanks so much for visiting. ; )

  • This was beautiful Lina.

"It was like meeting the Queen

And Bob Dylan all at once"

    wonderful.

are we to believe she was cheated out of royalties as well? is that what that line suggests? so sad.

    5 *****

    Paul

  • Thank you for your thoughtful comment, guys. : ) : )

  • marvelous*****

  • darn!!!! iread the poem first before hearing the pre-amble and thought, bless lina...she's written a poem where she's imagined meeting me!.....scream!!!!!....in all seriousness lina...it's a great poem.

  • I didn't know you then, but I do now, watch this space...

    and thanks. : )

  • What a wonderful idea for a poem--loved hearing this memory of yours via such a lovely conduit. These lines, " It was like meeting the Queen/And Bob Dylan all at once,/Uncanny where loyalties lie" are just great. And the ending "she mourns; sideways on" is perfect.

  • I really value your insight, thank you. : )

  • Beautiful - 5* /faved ;)

  • Many, many thanks, DRC : )
