What is this "dub step" I keep reading about?? This band is over thirty years old, whatever they are doing, it should be called that. If you see what I mean, shouldn't whatever "dub step" is be renamed to reflect that it is a rip off of something thirty plus years old? Saw the same phrase used to describe ska music from the seventies and I don't see any resemblance to ska.
Early Human League was pretty damned cool. "Empire State Human" is my second favorite song by them, followed by "Wxjl." I love that early New Wave attitude. Right when disco collapsed, it took over.
A reformed original Human League would really be something worth seeing and more importantly worth hearing. I don't doubt they could come up with some interesting new material as well. So come on chaps, how about burying that hatchet? Preferably in David Cameron's head!
@MisAnnThorpe: Done. They have a new album. I just saw them last night (in Boston, MA, with Men Without Hats opening). Brilliant gig. A good mix of classics and new songs. Classy and memorable.
@jigen08 Are you winding me up? I thought that a Human League reunion was about as likely as The Beatles doing so! How did the new material sound on first listen? Oh and thanks for the information.
@ffm20zaheri Davey Havok and Philip Oakey? yeahh they are both just.. idk. Philip's hair changes all the time. hes bald now but all of the band is still so amazingly talented and good-looking! and amazing. I hear they all have big hearts too. Sorry for this random outburst I just agree with your comment (;
At 1:08 the Doctor appears! Bloody Time Lords .... they're like flies! Wherever you look in History, when something of interest is about to kick off... up springs a Tardis!
@davefried81 yes very futuristic im a massive fan..and they were way ahead of anything else out then..apart from gary numan him and the human league were above anyone else
When it comes to backing vocals, I much prefer the speeded up tape/ helium based stuff, rather than the bellowing of them 2 talentless yorkshire hags. Keep Feeling Fascination... my arse!
Bloody hell this takes me back a couple of decades. Back to the Rumrunner in Brum and Romeo and Juliets when they were both alive and kickin. I actually met Oakey in the Rumrunner he was really tall and very much the poser
my dad has something like "the best of human league" on his iPod and i was looking through it all thinking "what do you mean empire state human isnt on there?!"
Around this time I was watching Simple Minds gigging.. ( 1 van and no roadies) and Japan (David Sylvian) in Edinburgh. bono and the boys never appeared for another year. Bow Wow Wow, Spandua ballet, Kraftwerk appeared at the Hoochie Coochie Club one night after a gig. Grace Jones the lot...Talking heads those were the days....
I got this album from the back of a lorry, literally!! Someboby was chuckin them out the back of a van in thier hundreds in a scabby housing scheme (Broomhouse) in Edinburgh...I got about 10 copies, the one with the babies on the front. 1979 I believe.
the reason this is almost unknown is because it is the only released single from the reprodution album which is PRE-dont you want me
and most people only know the human league from THAT single
before that there was the reproduction album and the travelogue album both of with had some classic tracks on them most notable were several from the tralogue album
Heard this song for the first time in a drama on the BBC a couple of days ago about Boy George. It was playing in the background whilst they were in the Blitz club. Loved the song and glad it's here.....
This is 30 years old but it is SO contemporary! My brother had this single alongside others by John Foxx, Caberat voltaire, Japan, Visage etc! He was a synthpop nut... Great single cover as well!
Yeah, Human League supported Siouxsie and the Banshees during that tour. How lucky you were to witness to two great acts on the same day! Both the bands liked each other. That's what I heard.
have no recollection siouxsie´s support band 80.the first i remember seeing the league was 81.maybe i did,it was a lot of years and beers ago but great band and song anyway
Another fine crafted track from the Marsh/ Ware era. The sequenced bass line and catchy melody, make this a great dance song! It's a shame they don't make songs like this anymore. Great stuff!
I know it's actually about desiring fame, but there's something genuinely creepy about this song. Despite the electropop form, it's still a medieval-style 'Wicker Man' maypole dance at heart.
One of their best songs. Video looks authentic to the design of the reproduction LP inner sleeve, I always liked so much. Prefer reproduction, travelogue, soundtrack to a generation and the latest.
I like the face he makes at 1:33! Hahahahha
